I was there that day for the official opening of Toontown. Although it was only for special guests that day, including more celebrities than I have ever seen at once. The parade was amazing! I didn’t even plan for it and don’t even remember hearing about Toontown before, with the first hint of something unusual going on being the fleet of stretch limousines collected near the entrance. Later on we kept walking past famous people being escorted through the park, like George “Norm” Wendt and John “Cliff” Ratzenberger of Cheers fame, who were actually hanging out together like the friends they portrayed on the show. Steven Spielberg wasn’t in the parade, but he brought his family there too, leaving me speechless when he walked by. I didn’t use my camera either.

I might get a'lot of slack for this. But anybody else think that Mickey's Toontown has run it's course and should be replaced by another themed area? Something more recent?
+FanimationXV That's still just a rumor at this point. I don't think they're going to demolish it, at least not to build anything Star Wars-related. Think about it: if they're going to add more Star Wars attractions to Disneyland (which is probably a given), wouldn't it make more sense to put them in or near Tomorrowland? They've already got Star Tours there. If they were to knock down Toontown and put Star Wars Galaxy in its place, Fantasyland would be in the way. I suppose they could relocate Star Tours, but then you'd still have two similarly themed areas in different corners of the park. It's not impossible, but that kind of lopsidedness doesn't really seem like Disney's style.

However, only Gadget's Go Coaster would open up with Toontown in 1993. Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin would open up exactly one year later.
