OUR STORY SO FAR:
We are Cory & Kristen Williams and in August 2014 we made the long drive from Southern California to Alaska to move into our new home in Eagle River. Here we’ve had the chance to explore Alaska, experience lots of wild events, meet lots of great people and endure the extreme temperatures that the north is known for. On December 23rd, 2014 we got engaged after our Polar Plunge under the Northern Lights then later married by our favorite lake on May 23rd, 2015. Then on June 23rd, 2016 we had our first child. A baby girl named Chell.

Strangely, I saw a video the other day of a baby doing that subtle crying when her mama was singing to her and it melted my heart so I'm not surprised it did the same to you guys. So adorable! What happened in that town was like a pay if forward circle. So great and community spirited. Shame more towns aren't like that.
I've never seen ANYONE pet a bee. That's super cool! I'm terrified of bees though.
We have a wild honey bee hive living in our orchard. I love going out there when they are leaving the hive in the morning and sometimes they will land on me. They seem to like the henna smell in my hair. My daughter gets nervous around the bees but I have handled wild bees my whole life and never been stung. My husband on the other hand has been stung but then he swats at them.

When I was little I would pet need all the time. I used to go to a nature camp and they showed us how to do it. It was pretty awesome
I was impressed by the bee petting. I would be heading in the opposite direction of that bee, haha. My closest experience with a bee was when one crashed onto my nose as I was walking. I just felt it bounce off my face; too weird. Luckily I've never been stung.
I loved this video!! OMG. So much sweetness with Chell. I loved that band (Never actually seen anyone playing the washboard before) and the whole tacos/music story. It's so heartening to see things like that happen, makes me really wish I'd been there hanging out.
Also, the scenery is breathtaking!

I think Chell was responding to you emotionally when you were singing to her. I have seen this in another video. I believe it touched her deeply.

Cory-- I love the creative camera work. Very good stuff. Adds some dimension to the vlog. Glad you are getting out and having fun. Interesting about her reaction to your singing. Definitely work with that. Chell is reacting, for sure, but to what ? I think she is picking up on emotional context in your voice. That's special.

Those tacos looked absolutely perfect!! The band was super phenomenal!! And Kristen's "happy place" by the rushing water was beyond happy. I wish I could have been there to experience all of this first hand. What a wonderful day it must have been.

After watching Dudelikehella over and over I feel I know Alaska more. When you said Talkeetna the cat mayor came to mind and the time you flew the plane, that time you almost fell in the ice when you were a straight newbie haha
that car seat to crib trip was very smooth! well done! that small town looks like a wonderful place to adventure! it makes me want to find small towns near me to see what i can find
My friend and I started doing that this summer. The first trip was last month and we had a blast taking a bus tour thru Louisville KY. They are known for their Bourbon. We were given samples to drink as well as foods from hometown eateries , as well as a tour of the city. It was awesome. We don't know where we are going this month, but I'm sure it will be fun!
Babies can feel songs. They feel comfort from their parents voice and singing. They do feel emotions and they can be moved from it. There is another video on TH-cam of a baby being moved by her moms singing. :P it was precious.
I like how you guys express your love about being in Alaska and obviously with Chell. You guys are really great with her. She's so lucky to have you both as parents.
I've always wanted to visit Alaska and watching y'alls vlogs just illustrates how utterly beautiful it is there. I love how, even tho you live there now, you both don't take all that majesty for granted. it looks like you've picked a wonderful place to plant your family and we get the pleasure of watching it flourish through your videos. So, thank you for that! 😀

Thanks to you two I today sent a message to my mom and told her everything I'm thankful that they taught me and how they raised me, that I'm proud to see my mom and dad in myself every day, and that if I had raised myself I had probably done the same decisions my mom did. I wasn't an easy teenager so she really appreciated hearing that I am proud of them. :) The ending in this vlog was funny xD

Hi Guys, I have some weird TH-cam disease that won't let me reply directly so I have to comment by reply to someone. Thanks Dianna for letting me use you as my comment buddy! I am a registered midwife and have been for 34 years. I always have a portable water feature turned on during the birth and recommend from day one to have one in the nursery so you might want to consider that with Chell. It's soothing for everyone during the birth process (me included) and babies sleep so much more soundly when they have one in their nursery. It lulls them to sleep, and provides that soothing noise they love to keep them asleep! I have to say too Kristen, you look SO beautiful, your skin is glowing ten times more than when you were pregnant and I am in awe of how beautiful you look every time you're on camera. No wonder Corey tells you that all the time. He is glowing too but in that daddy manly way, it's just such a pleasure to see you both. Trust your instincts with Chell they will never steer you wrong, don't feel you have to legitimize anything you do with her, it's all good. Keep making vlogs both of you, it's the highlight of my day! xo

Talkeetna is one of my happy places too! My family used to go camping right by the river and go fishing. It's a great place to just take a day trip to (as you guys did!) Next time I go I'll have to try those tacos :)

sweet video. i've actually been to Talkeetna before, about 10 years ago. it was even a fun place back then. expensive, though, like everything in Alaska. hubby and i were staying with his sis in Palmer, AK, and took a trip to Talkeetna for the day. i love AK :)... God bless your dear little family.

Yeah, pretty cool to see Cory "petting" the Bumble Bee. It's difficult to convince almost anyone that bumbles are rather mellow and harmless.
+Maureen Ott My friend was clearing some weeds for me. There was a hive they had made in the tall dead grass. He disturbed it accidentally, and OMG! He took his shirt off and there were a half dozen or more still stinging him. It was hard removing them! Moral of this story...bee careful when they're near their hives, and do not disturb!! It surprised me!
Oh, wow. Sorry to hear that. I guess bumble bees can be territorial and defend their hive from perceived dangers. Personally, I've had good experiences with them/. I wouldn't want to pet them though. Not that brave.
I'm semi-afraid of bees, so that made me scream.

I know you both get a lot of advice but leaving babies to sleep in the car seat is dangerous. While asleep their necks can loll down and end up suffocating the baby. It's not common but serious enough that you just don't want to risk it and I believe it's even in the manufacturer warnings. Which really sucks because I remember how awesome it was to come home with a sleeping baby and just want to let them keep snoozing but having to slowly take them out praying they sleep through the transfer from seat to bed. lol
At 5:10 I could've sworn those people plus the guy bending down was a mini elephant.

That ending, though. :D Maybe it's just that it's late here too, but I'm laughing harder than I should be.
I just realized something. I've been watching your videos for nearly 10 years, but ever since you did regular vlogging, you've never seemed like you have really changed. I was never one of those people that was saying, "I like the OLD Cory, go back to being Mr. Safety!" but now you're a father, and I just realized, that you having Chell around just seems so natural. You have clearly changed, but I never had the opinion that you were worse for ware because of it, and I think it's because of the natural progression that the vlogs have given us all over the past five years. It's so crazy to think about.
Barely a month old and full of feels. What a baby. And I think she looks more like Kristen every day, so pretty! And those taco looked soooooo good!

this vlog has managed to cheer me up fairly well. my dog of 12 years passed away yesterday morning and my heart is absolutely broken and I haven't stop crying. she was a massive support for.me in some awful times.

Hey Cory, the plant with the berries on it your mom picked in Talkeetna was Lowbush cranberries. I pick those every year and make a fruit chutney with those for the holidays.
I go out once a week now to thin out the berries by taking the ones red all around and not white on the underside.

Sweetheart Daddy, Between 5:27-5:38, (standing by the river) you need to be supporting ( like a scaffold) her head movements. She is a strong girl, but at such a young age, she doesn't have the neck muscle strength and control to self-regulate her head completely. Her head wobbles and can fall over and hurt her; proportionately, her head is very heavy, so help her hold it up so it doesn't fall over and hurt her. Much love!

To clarify with specifics: It's not small head movements or wobbles that present a danger, but it's the falling over of her head that we want to prevent. It could injure her, cause a sprain, tweak her neck, cause her pain we don't want. It's those sudden falls of her head that are a risk to prevent. That's why adding the gentle scaffolding of your hand is so crucial. Once the child has Full control over their head, your hand only on their upper back is fine. But until then, you need to scaffold the head to prevent her head from falling over, and to protect her from big unexpected head and neck movements, even from arching her back suddenly. These involuntary muscle movements aren't predictable, they can happen suddenly, and when they do, your hand is her guard against too big a movement that could hurt her, or even cause her to fall backward with her head. We've got to give safety structure to the head and neck for the strength she doesn't yet have. :)
