    I'm really having difficulty with this - what Gavin describes as "we're fellow Christians... but our differences matter." I'm not certain a "middle space" is the place to aim for. I find so many things discussed on different axes, not a single continuum, it makes "middle" kinda a misnomer. There's not a middle in the frameworks that provide a starting point for reconciling concepts or dogmas. The fact that we're brothers but also that the differences are occasionally spectacular for this reason is hard. It makes efforts even like this snippet conversation really meaningful to me and appreciated.

    • @AndrewMcBride-p5n
      @AndrewMcBride-p5n หลายเดือนก่อน

      We are not brothers the Bible says those who preach another Gospel than what Paul had preached they are accursed of God. The Catholic Church preaches another Gospel

    • @AndrewKendall71
      @AndrewKendall71 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AndrewMcBride-p5n I can certainly find plenty who obfuscate rather entirely the gospel while affirming the gospel out of conformity with the church. But Catholic theology also holds to Christ alone as the mediator and redeemer in salvation. It's just so often hidden, and that's truly problematic if the evangelistic instinct and people needing to come to faith as little children are right. And they are.

      @@AndrewMcBride-p5n Um, I'm Protestant (not that I like flying any flag but Christ). And It IS Christ who alone has the authority to intercede before the Father. Yet, people are invited to do so all the time in church, and among believing friends. And we know saints in glory are praying for us and for the world - the Bible tells us so. Now, whether we need to ask them to do so or not (since they're perfect in glory, perfectly employed in the tasks God has for them), or whether they could hear us asking is another thing entirely that the Catholic church only has "we say so" as evidence for.

    I don’t see why it’s a problem to say that Dr. Ortlund’s content is “anti-Catholic”; clearly much of it is just that.

    • @matthew7491
      @matthew7491 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      anti-Catholic has a more historical connotation that stems from persecution against Catholics specifically for being Catholic as opposed to some theological disagreement. Especially in America. So although Gavin's content often critiques Roman Catholic theology, I think calling it anti-Catholic is wrong. Especially since he is always charitable to Catholics themselves. He just disagrees theologically.

  • @enshala6401

    Gavin seems like a decent guy, and it seems like he is engaging us (Catholics) in reasonably good faith. That said, I disagree with his assertion about being in the "trickiest" space between Prots and Catholics being a good/healthy thing. The split was never as Jesus intended (John 17), and history has demonstrated that the only way to preserve a unified Body of Christ is by way of a Pope as our leader under the protection of the Holy Spirit when settling disputes over dogma.

Our Pope is just as important to the Body of Christ as our biological father to our nuclear family. Having a Pope isn't a curse. It is a blessing. Apologetics have done much damage because they distract from the central and essential truth of Jesus as Savior. The faith is thus relegated to soloed individual truths, admittedly not without meaning, and humans can’t seem to hold on to the Jesus, as Savior, who we must know intimately at the time of judgment. 😢
