Hi John, great videos, great for for showing technique. Do you have any videos or maybe can you in future videos talk about how to identify good habitat for fluke. How to go about finding areas that are productive for those of us that make the occasional trip out, but never seem to find a live bottom.
Went out on Saturday on the miss montauk, there was a pretty good pick of fish but it was really tough fishing, the current was very wacky and had to use a crazy amount of weight, anywhere from 12-16 oz sinkers and u still had to let line out pretty often to stay near to bottom, I ended up with 2 keepers for the day and my buddy was able to pick a full limit so at least we left with something but man was it rough jiggin those heavy weights all day lol
I don't understand the need for heavy sinkers. What pound test line were you using and was it braid? We fished Saturday, 3 to 4 ounce in 80 feet at Block, or about 10 miles from where you were. After we limited we caught cod on 3 ounce jigs in 100 ft. We use 10 and 15# braid. We did not have a trolling motor.
@JohnSkinnerFishing Crazy I know lol, Me and my buddy where both using 15 lb spider wire stealth braid and most people on the boat where using similar, everybody started out with 3-5oz bucktails and teaser type rigs like always but than after the first few drops everyone was scoping out all over the place in every which direction and the whole boat was in a constant tangle, so we were told bucktails weren’t gunna cut it and to put on heavy sinkers and chicken rigs so the whole boat switched over, I don’t know what was goin on down on the bottom but I started at 6ounces and worked my way all the way up to 12 and even with 12 ounces I had to drop line every about 10 seconds and people with heavier rods around me where going up to 16 ounces and still having the same issue, idk why we stuck it out in that spot the whole day but
It looks like you sacrificed some of your fishing time to take on chief netting duties but it kept the bite running smoothly and helped everyone else get more fishing time in. Plus it seems like you're honestly happy to see the other guys catch their flukes.
great vid as always. I'm trying to get input on the differences between the tsunami slow pitch and the skinner jig and bounce, and I thought who better to ask.
Hey man I own four tsunami slow pitch rods, two of them are solely for flounder fishing, they’re slow pitch rods but they’re really nice for jigging for fluke
They’re amazing rods for the price but I just recently got a jigging world rod which is a bottom fishing rod for jigging with gulp just like a skinner rod, the difference between the skinner rod and the trophy is it’s got more backbone than the trophy and a lot more of a stout rod black and butt to get a good jig with your bucktail, but a soft tip to feel bottom bumps and lighter bites
I don't like the slow pitch rods for this fishing because the tip is too soft and it's hard to put action on the jig. The skinner rod has a parobolic bend with a nice spring to it and handles heavier weights well. It's also an awesome striper rod in deep rips, and is great for blackfish.
Youins don't us no live bait? Ei bull minnows ,small spot & croker we'd use flounder belly an one of best strips of Taylor bluefish purdy fish bud used to b that way here in Va back in da 80's we caught 85 one day with 4 people we ran out of bait an all were over 16"what a day as a kid chit u never forget gonna make a trip north I see lol
Man do I need help using my trolling motor...you guys stay on the fish even if they're not keepers...what I wouldn't do to learn this...the only thing I do well is "spot lock"...lol
It's easy. Spot lock. Drop your rig to the bottom and see which way the current wants to drag it. Run the trolling motor in that direction at around .5-1.0 mph, looking to see your lines slightly behind you. Put it on autopilot. You'll adjust power and direction with the tide and current, but that's pretty much it.
Love watching, I feel like im on the boat with you guys. Great videos!
Holy smokes John.. that is some flukin.. and the boat is killer.
Aloha & Well Done ~ Yankees ✅
Would be nice if we could see you guys at the dock. After the trip, with all the fish lined up
Waiting on seeing you use the 7 ft Medium, Tiger Cork.
crushed them that day John!
Dave’s funny love his sense of humor and two Fluke on a line very nice, this is a great group of guys
John, Everyone had a good Day.... Eating lots of Flounder...
That’s a beauty 😅. I remember hearing that fishing in NY.
Glad you avoided the storm. Very successful day.
My god, two keeper fluke in one shot.
Mr. Skinner,
I love watching your videos. I am always looking forward for the next one. You’ve taught me so much about the sport. Thank you!
That boats so awesome
@Skinner...you guys living a luxurious fishermen's life when ya can decide what boat to take...lol...solid day tho!
Cool video!
In all of your videos I don't think I have seen two on one rod before. Awesome!
Nice fishing, John!
I have purchased the Bay but now I need that Ocean rod it's a must have...another great video for me to learn from thank you
John one suggestion I have is to date and time of where your fishing. Those fishing the same waters(me) would learn from it.
Very nice
I like your videos
Nice double banger
I'm talking about tearing some fluke up BAM!

Wow. Funky currents for sure there sometimes. Glad we chose Block that day. Thanks for the explanation.

It's like a team thing when we fish. It makes no difference who catches. Lots of fun!
@@JohnSkinnerFishing - It does look like a ton of fun!
Wish you'd do a sweepstakes or something for a half day with you guys, I'd give my left n*t
Always killing it Skinner, did I miss the video of the giant door mat you posted on IG last week?
Here it is: th-cam.com/video/C6gRT0GCUwA/w-d-xo.html
Is it common to catch weak fish while Fluking with bucktails? Went out today on sound and caught a couple weak fish with my kids!
Yes, if they're around. Great to hear you had some!
John do you hit bottom and bounce off of it or jig right above bottom? Thanks again for the content.
Ideally a foot or two off the bottom.
Damn John. Those guys owed you dinner. You didn't even get to fish hardly
Actually - Jonathan sent me home with pot pies from his NOFOpotpies business!

@@JohnSkinnerFishing I totally agree skinner, it’s definitely not a flounder specific rod like your skinner rod but it gets the job done
thats what I assumed but I'm in Pa and had no way to to physically check it out. thank's so much. tight lines!@@JohnSkinnerFishing

What are you using
Bucktails and Gulp.
Rick not on his phone catching a big fish! Crazy times…
Very generous of you to do most of the netting! When do you think the striper migration will start, or start seeking Blackfish?
September to get the bass moving. Blackfish opens for us 2nd week of October.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Thank you Mr. Skinner!
Where are you fishing in a small pond or a big ocean? The guy in the boat in the video was awfully close. Maybe you knew the person.
He's a friend.
