    I just came across your video, just what I was looking for. Thank you very much. I really enjoyed watching you sew it on a vintage machine and not a newer one, they work so well if looked after. It looks like the Elna Supermatic that my Mom had before I was born!

      Thank you so much! Your comment just made my day! I'm so glad this video was helpful. Couldn't agree with you more. I love vintage sewing machines! The one I'm using in this video is an Oliva CL-50 (similar to the Bernina 117), made in Portugal. This model started to be produced by Oliva circa 1950 (mine is from 1957). She's very sturdy and reliable. The stitches are neat and even and she never lets me down (especially to sew through thick layers of fabric). Can't say the same about the new ones even though they are nice sewing machines with awesome features. That's awesome! The Elna Supermatic looks like a great machine too! 🥰 Thanks again for your kind words. Happy sewing! 🤗🪡❤️

    First I want to say the machine mat is beautiful & functional, the best I've seen. I only wish you explained the steps because that often reinforces the process & helps to better understand it. Also that is some crazy music with all sewing movements gets a little confusing & can the measurements be in inches also for us dummies that can't convert so easily. But all in all I loved it & will try my best to make one. Thanks.

      Thank you so much for watching. I appreciate your kind words and comment. Your feedback is very important to me because it helps me to improve the quality of my content. I'm glad you enjoyed the sewing machine mat. If you have any questions while making it, feel free to ask. I always write the measurements in centimetres and inches during the video. You can also check my video description for additional information regarding the measurements. It's my pleasure. Wishing you a fabulous new week. Happy sewing! 😊🧵

    @BravoDada, thank you SO much for this easy-to-understand and lovely pattern demo! It must have taken you forever to edit! ❤️ I want to try to make the top line of pockets with clear vinyl to ensure scissors don’t eventually poke through. Would you change anything in the process to use vinyl? Thanks!

    • @BravoDada
      @BravoDada  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi, It's my pleasure. Your lovely comment made my day! Thank you so much! ❤️ This sewing tutorial took me almost two weeks to edit but it was worth it! 🥰 That's a great idea! Unfortunately I never sewed with vinyl but I did a quick Internet search about it. Here's what I've learned:
      - Use a rotary cutter instead of scissors for more accurate cuts and clean edges.
      - Vinyl is thicker than cotton so you'll need to pay attention to the thickness and quantity of layers you're using as your sewing machine may not be able to sew through them.
      - Your needle must be a heavy-duty one (for leather, denim, topstitch or vinyl). The needle size will depend on your vinyl thickness.
      - Use a heavyweight or upholstery-grade polyester thread.
      - Use flat-head wonder/sewing clips instead of pins.
      - Use the correct presser foot to avoid the vinyl to stick or slide too much. Some recommend an acrylic presser foot, others a Teflon foot (reduces friction but may be tricky as it can cause the vinyl to slide too much), a walking foot (if you're sewing many layers) or a roller foot (for extra traction).
      - If your vinyl is backed with fabric, the presser foot won't be much of a problem as you can sew on the reverse side and it will feed through well.
      - Adjust the stitch length and tension. Use a longer stitch length (3-4mm) and loosen the thread tension slightly but make sure it is not too loose. You can do a test sample on a scrap of vinyl before you start sewing.
      - And last but not least, take your time and always test everything first to find out what works best for you.
      I hope this helps. Please let me know how it went. Thanks again for your kind words. Happy sewing! 🤗🪡❤️

    Stunning .. I'm gonna make one for my sewing machine ... I like the idea of the non slip kitchen mat as I struggle with my machine sliding across table when it comes to sewing multiple layers ... Well done .. although I muted the music maybe try for something a little less harsh ....

      Hi, I have a Janome DC6030/DKS30 which is a computerized (domestic) sewing machine and an Oliva CL50 (the one that I used in this video to sew the mat) which is a semi industrial one. You should adjust the mat measurements according to the size of your own sewing machine. I'm from Portugal. 😊 It's my pleasure. Thank you so much for watching! Happy sewing! 🤗🪡❤️

    How do I start measuring my first quilting mark?
    I can’t tell in the video where to lay my ruler, what line or marks do I line up before I draw my 1st line? I am a beginner.

    • @BravoDada
      @BravoDada  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, To draw the first line, start in the bottom right corner and using your quilting ruler, mark a 2” (5cm) line at a 45° angle between the two edges of your fabric. Then using this first line as a guide, mark the rest of your quilting lines until you get to the top left corner of your fabric. Now mark your quilting lines starting from the bottom left corner, following the same procedure as before. I use a heat erasable pen to mark the quilting lines but you can use a Hera marker or other marking tool that you prefer. Start stitching the lines that run through the center of your mat and work your way out. The same goes for the pockets. The pocket quilting lines are 1 3/16" (3cm) apart. I hope this is helpful. Thanks for watching. Happy sewing! 🪡❤️

    I would like to know how many pieces to cut off the material?.

    • @BravoDada
      @BravoDada  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Wanda Smith. Here you have the fabric measurements and how many fabric pieces you'll need:
      Sewing mat:
      - 2 fabric pieces for the front and the back: 68cm x 56cm
      - 2 fabric pieces for the smaller pocket (1 for outside fabric and 1 for inside fabric): 68cm x 14cm
      - 1 fabric piece for the bigger pocket: 68cm x 33cm. If you prefer to use two different fabrics for the bigger pocket you will need 2 fabric pieces (1 for outside fabric and 1 for inside fabric): 68cm x 17cm
      Bow:
      - 1 fabric piece for the bow: 19cm x 9.5cm
      - 1 fabric piece for the center of the bow: 6cm x 6cm
      Thread catcher:
      - 2 fabric pieces for outer fabric: 15cm x 16cm
      - 2 fabric pieces for lining: 15cm x 16cm
      Heavy-weight fusible interfacing - thread catcher:
      - 2 pieces of fusible interfacing: 15cm x 16cm
      Heavy-weight polyester batting - top of the mat:
      - 1 piece for the front of the mat: 68cm x 56cm
      Light-weight polyester batting - pockets of the mat:
      - 1 piece for the bigger pocket: 68cm x 16cm
      - 1 piece for the smaller pocket: 68cm x 14cm
      Bias tape:
      - 2 pieces for both pockets: 68cm x 2cm
      Dark brown ribbon:
      - 13cm x 1cm
      I hope this helps. Thanks for watching. Happy sewing! 🪡❤️

      Hi, please look again. The measurements are in metric (cm) and inches. She does the exact conversation, which is confusing…. Some being in 1/64”.
