- The sixth episode of the Super Mario Bros Super Show - The Great Gladiator Gig - Originally aired 12-Sep-1989
Mario and friends go to the Linguini Empire to attend a benefit spaghetti dinner. When they arrive Princess and Toad get seperated from the Mario and Luigi and unfortunately run into King Koopa who's taken over. The Marios eventually get caught and are forced to fight Triclyde in the Colosseum.

The Mario item sounds are used literally every 5 seconds and Luigi seems like the main character in some episodes lol 😂

I’m 29 watching this, watched it a lot growing up. This is probably Top 3 Favorite shows for me. I’m mainly watching these shows again because 1. They’re awesome and with the movie coming these are even cooler to watch!

Didn't the horse chase scene have a different song to it? The VHS I had also had a different live action segment. I wonder why.
I've never seen the VHS so not sure, if you do find out though I'd like to update our Super Show section with any bits of trivia like that :)

Yeah, the original played a cover of Shaddap You Face by Joe Dolce.
Basically, every episode that originally aired and was released on VHS had a featured song.
To avoid paying royalties, they've all been removed from the re-released versions on DVD and streaming services.

the super show episodes were released every monday-thursday in september 1989 to the end of the year while zelda was released every friday.

Spaghetti Dinners are a real way for Catholic Churches to raise charity money IRL, by the way.
And Presbyterian churches raise money via Soup-er Sunday lunches.
