I so miss my Bugs when watching these videos. I had a rebuilt 64 back in 85 or 86 and I ended up selling it to a collector. Had my nearly new Ford Ranger and didnt need the Bug then. Now I long for nostalgia.
I'm sure you loved your Bug! Thank you for reminding me to hold on to mine! It is indeed a special feeling driving these simple but beautiful cars. And so simple doing repairs to them. Of course they need a lot of attention and a dry storage, so they become like a family member. I hope to be able to keep mine for a long time!
Thank you for your comment Brian! Yes, they do! And they were a lot cheaper back in the days. Sunroof must be really nice in summertime! Well at 75' I was only two years old, but I saw the first one I remember at age 6, asked my father, what model is that car? He told me it's a beetle, ever since then I wanted one. I bought my first one maybe 25 years ago, but it was a 72' model, I only had to give about a 120 bucks for it and I had it as a daily driver for almost a whole year. It even passed the yearly technical inspection. When the first snow came and I realized the tires were hard as rock and then I sold it for 250. Later I saw it in the city at two different occasion, at both times I got out of my car and went up to it and clapped it and was happy to see it still on the road. Later on I saw in the register it ended up in the scrapyard... It was unfortunately badly rusted out. This one I had to pay a lot more for, about 6000 last year. But it's in better shape and it doesn't have to go through technical inspection as it's a veteran and don't have to pay tax on it anymore. Cheers!
@@learningbyliving Good story! 6k sounds great. I had to rid mine of China parts. Now, restored 28 Pict-1, pierburg fuel pump, big cap Bosch dist. Absolutely runs like new! Engine was restored 15k mi. ago. So fun!!
I've had my 1965 for almost 50 years ! I've driven it to almost half the 50 U.S. states...and three foreign countries. I've driven it from 10,000 feet in the Colorado Rockies to -280 feet BELOW sea level in Death Valley, Calif. I've put down several layers of Dynapad all over the car...and still haven't solved the noise problem except to this extent...as I've gotten older, my hearing has begun to fail so the noise doesn't bother me so much any more. The car is as noisy as ever, just not to ME. Maybe the secret all along was just to wait long enough for my hearing to fail. I sure wish my '65 was a quiet as this one...
Great story! I'm sure you had a great time traveling in your 65! I can only agree with the noise, getting worse hearing might be the only thing that helps getting the car quieter! 😁
At one point in the mid 1970's my two brothers, my Dad, and I all owned Beetles. We had 9 of them in the driveway at one point including a few for parts. I got one for $50 with a blown transmission and another one for $200 that needed a motor. We'd fix the rust with galvanized sheet metal cut from HVAC ductwork, roofing tar, and rivets. My '66 Beetle had two Craig power amps, four Jensen 6x9 triaxial speakers, a Pioneer Supertuner, and two 6V to 12V converters.
Thanks for sharing....my first bug was the 1959 model & I loved it so much I purchased a new 1966 VW and was amazed how good it was to handle....wish I had kept it but unfortunately due to family size I sold it regretfully..... cheers from Australia 😀
Thanks Roger! It used to be louder. I found some rustholes on the corner of the muffler, fixed it temporarily with some epoxy, since then it's much quieter and doesn't smell as much of exhaust fumes inside the car either.
Thanks for your comment Charles! Don't know if it's considered a deal, but I got it for about 6k, kind of expensive compared to what you could get them for 20 years ago, but prices have gone up a lot lately. This one is all original, in okay shape and complete. It does have some rust that I will have to work on.
Circular saw. But I got lucky and got to keep my thumb and it healed well. Needed five stitches and cut off a nerve. Went to buy the bug two days later.

Same color as my '64 I purchased in '75 for 500 bucks. I now own another '64 sunroof. They get in your soul.

I installed shag carpeting in my '66 Beetle back around 1976 and it worked quite well.
My first car when I was in college was a '65 VW, green. Loved it!
Will you get another one now? I hope you will! Great hobby to have one. So easy to fix with.
Love the roads you're on!! My kind of driving!!
Thanks! Yes I love to drive on these backroads with the bug!

Awesome car! How did you get to make it so quiet? Mines sounds like a big truck haha. Congrats on that great machine!

@learningbyliving Damn, that's crazy. So do you daily drive your bug?
