Started boiling peanuts last year once I found a source of green ones. Loved them so much I started growing my own. No easy feat here in Eastern Canada but they are doing fantastic. I'll wait till after the first couple of frosts before I harvest.

Thanks for the informative video! I always wondered how it was done! As a Northerner, when I saw my first "Boiled Peanut" sign I was shocked. Sounded...crazy! Now I love em! Fast forward 10 years later, in the pandemic, I miss them, and was looking to cook up a batch myself. Thanks for taking the time to make the video!

叶江 Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia mainly. I know it’s not the importing your thinking of but anytime something is sent cross the Mason Dixon line then it’s considered exporting to the southern states and importing to those poor Yankees in the other side of the line, bless their hearts ♥️!!!

My first time trying boiled peanuts was a couple years back. Being from the north, I didn't know what you were supposed to do with them. I ate some of them and was in the truck stop a little later and the young lady asked me how I liked them. (I had mentioned never having them before when I purchased them) I said they were okay, but awful chewy. She gave me a funny look and asked, "You did shell them didn't you?"
I said, "I thought that was why you boiled them, so you could eat the shells." She shook her head no and we both started laughing.
Guess I'll know better next time. lol
Another interesting video, keep them coming. Have a good day.

Boiled Peanuts are great! There is something else that tastes like boiled Peanuts.
I was out trying to learn to forage and found wild radishes. I identified it first by the flowers, it was to late in the season, the roots went to wood. The leaves taste good, but the texture is like sandpaper. The only thing left to try was the seed pods. So I boiled them up and found they taste just like boiled peanuts. They work great for a garnish on a salad, just boil them, chop them up and toss them in a salad. You should try them sometime, sure you will like them.

A man after my heart...I can eat boiled peanuts ‘til I flounder. My BNL & I do them up in a pressure cooker. 10 minutes a batch then release the pressure. I’ve also pressure canned them in quart mason jars. Same time span but have to let them cool down without releasing pressure to keep the liquid from boiling out. 25#s will yeild about 4 cases of quart jars and last me about a year. 😉. Like spicing them with jalapeños or Tabasco or Valentina Mexican hot sauce. 👍🏻👍🏻

Had them in Florida many years ago. Still a fan! Make them once a year in the cold northeast in October along with Yankee style Chili & smoked Kielbasa.
Thank you for the harvesting part of the video. Coming from a tobacco and potato part of the Mass valley, was very informative.
    Cheers my Friend!

I boil a ton of peanuts each year but I like to boil dry ones better than green ones. They come out of the hull perfect. It takes longer to boil them but you get the whole peanut out of the shell. They come out of the shell like a pan of cornbread comes out of a well seasoned skillet.

Dave Bentley you were more than likely to far north in the state. The mountain men on the southern Mo border cook em up bout as often as they cook a batch of liqueur but you just have to know where to find em.

We grow thousands of acres of them around here so always have peanut boilings around dove season. I have a big pot that holds a bushel at a time and then freeze some. Crawfish boilings in spring and peanut boilings in sept and fish fries year round.

My wife walked in yesterday with our first bushel of the season. Just finished boiling the first cauldron. (there's several cauldrons in a bushel) Wow! nothing like fresh boiled green GA peanuts. Don't know how many bags we'll get, but all we can't eat will be frozen for later. Just finished my first LARGE bowl!! Goes great with App State (We retired to NC) football!!!

Had to comment on this video as I'm from Georgia, now living in Kansas! Have to buy canned boiled peanuts! Not the same but close as I can get. Grew up eating boiled peanuts and absolutely love them as much as oysters on the half. Truly miss living in the South!

    • @BirdYoumans

@@williambrownjr2346 Yep! Good stuff. We cooked up some just salty, added heat (red pepper) to some and ate some hot from the cooker and froze a bunch for the winter. It's amazing how many come in a bushel. And you are correct, people who only have the canned ones to go by still don't know what the good "stuff" is! But if you can't get the fresh ones, the canned ones will do in a pinch. Just make sure they say green peanuts. Those that are dried and then reconstituted by soaking in water just don't cut it once you know what the real thing tastes like.

@@BirdYoumans A couple of years ago, my wife and I attended the wedding of my cousin's son on Spring Island, SC. At the rehearsal dinner was a huge bowl of boiled peanuts, biggest and best I think I've ever had! Packed a large zip lock bag full to take back to the hotel. :-)

At a wedding rehearsal Dinner!!?Gotta love the South and our simple, fun, easy living style!!!
I can remember being young and mama had a hugh peanut patch. We would pull'em, and shake the dirt off, (we would eat them while she wasn't looking), and lay them across a flat bed trailer before cooking.
