I just rediscovered the story of your project and am happy to see that it was successful. Note that Museum of Computer Culture has now been merged into San Antonio Museum of Science and Technology (SAMSAT) and RC-3 is on display there. I'm glad to see that Harry and I were reasonably good influences. :-)

I WAS THINKING OF FLIPDOT FOR THIS, TOO! You are my hero, man. Good thinking!

I'd add serial. this way one could interact with the computer from the comfort of a terminal. at low baud rates one could probably even stay all-electromechanical (reed relays)

His bell is a pulsed vibrating bell. So a small phone ringer and a relay. Rather than a one shot. Keep that in mind as I think its really what gives it a special sound. Instead of pinging once its more of a buzz-ring. And since were on other relay computers. Have you seen zusie? Uses what looks to be old open relays. Has a very pleasant "vintage" sound. v=-ReqdyCxZ9I

Amazing job. Thanks for sharing this.
How many relays would your computer need for a relay only memory ?

Effectively the registers in the computer are a form of memory that can hold a single 8-bit value. There's one relay per bit and then six relays to handle gating the value in/out. On that basis it's 14 relays to hold 8-bits and if we're going to equal the 32k x 8-bit memory chip we're looking at a whopping 458,738 relays.

It's incredible how much more effective things got.

would you consider uploading the circuit board layouts and parts list

For the cards I've done as PCBs you can find everything I've got at easyeda.com/paul_6392 - the BOM isn't fully complete as I'm using some non-standard symbols etc in EasyEDA although to be fair most cards are just relays, LEDs and sockets on the whole ;)
