    Diane- the original Wreck-it Ralph! She is a machine when she gets going! You guys are getting it done. Brian, you certainly get into your work. Always covered in whatever you are working with. LOL I guess that's called "getting stuck in".

      Thank you Randy. I have always been a "mucky pup" I get covered in whatever I am working with 😁

    Welcome to Narnia❤. Put Diane behind a hammer drill and you never know what you’ll find. Good idea about a direct route to the bathroom😊. Finishing off block walls is a dilemma. I want to hide mine behind stained/sealed osb.

      Thank you Lisa. Cladding the wall with OSB is a great idea. I will probably be putting some up in the workshop to use as a tool wall. The next easy alternative is plasterboard which you can "dot and dab" it directly onto the blocks and costs about a third of the cost of 13mm OSB.🙂

    Good work as always! Its always goid to find an opening in the stone wall, so that you can reconfigure a room if you want to. Have a lovely week.

      Thank you Nicole. Fair's fair. You had a LOT more levelling to do than we did. Your floor looks fantastic now it is tiled 🙂

      Thank you. Pallets can be a really useful resource. Unfortunately, around here they are not generally free and if they are, then they are pretty poor quality 😞

      Are you near any industrial area? Ask some of the warehouse managers 😉 when you're out shopping

    They chose some very imaginitive wallpapers in the day, not my choice, pretty, but too many patterns to match...😊

    • @Portugalonashoestring
      @Portugalonashoestring  16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you. The patterns on the walls are actually painted directly onto the walls with some sort of stencil/printing roller. It must have taken them ages because the pattern repeats flawlessly. It took us quite a while before we realised that it wasn't wallpaper too😁

    Every week, another visual chapter in your Quinta's restoration book. Brian and Diane, exercise is no problem! Do you ever get curious visitors, who lived there before? We did and it was always amusing, to hear the exclamations and " I remember's". Our rescue home was built +- in 1830. The history, I found in a book written about the village, and further info at the history of Cape Town Archives. All very interesting, and began in county Armagh .

      Thank you Nicolette. That would be so interesting to find out about our house. Unfortunately we have no documents relating to it's history. We have tried asking neighbours and the people we bought it off but we haven't been able to find out much 😊

      Definitely try local muni. Every property and sale registered there. Nothing ventured ...

      We have tried to get any records from the local camera but there is nothing other than very scant owners details. 😊

    We tried one of those sprayers and didn`'t get on with it, it does make a great blow duster for the pc though 😂. We could have sent you our hard hats, as we only have them because Ch4 insisted when they were filming here, and even then we had people commenting on their social media that we were a pair of idiots for 'only' wearing Crocs :)

    • @Portugalonashoestring
      @Portugalonashoestring  16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi, nothing wrong with safety crocs 🤣 I never thought of using the sprayer for that, great idea. I have some proper airline fed spray guns from when I used to spraypaint cars and bikes but this one can throw a lot of paint onto the wall quite quickly and I am never going to get a shine on breeze blocks🤣
      People seem to forget that the term "health and safety" refers to health and safety AT WORK, we are not at work! We should all take common sense precautions: wear eye protection IF you are making flying debris, wear a hard hat IF you may knock your head or things may fall. But people sometimes take things too far 😁

    Brian I wanted to ask you when you tip the floor level dry mixture into the bucket is it safe to do without a mask ? I would hate you to have chest problems down the track , Di back on the tools again , you both are really bringing this old farm house back to life , i wait each week in anticipation for your video you both are such a lovely couple love and hugs to you both xxx

    • @Portugalonashoestring
      @Portugalonashoestring  17 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thank you Tracey. Yes I believe it's perfectly safe to use without a mask especially if you are outdoors. Too many people obsess about PPE. All the fuss about using masks, ear defenders etc is absolutely essential if you are working with various materials on a daily basis but they are not needed for occasional exposure. We have seen TH-camrs fully kitted out in goggles, hard hat, ear defenders, gloves and masks......to knock a nail into a piece of wood 🤣🤣🤣 we all just need a bit of common sense 😁

      @traceybowen3565 17 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @ i am glad your ok doing it out doors , it actually makes sense that your not using the product all time so you have very little exposure thanks for explaining Brian xxx

      They do it because they get a lot of flack from their viewers. Probably take some off as soon as they stop filming. @@Portugalonashoestring

    Hi Brian and Diane
    Good to see your getting the man cave ready some were to hide .only joking Diane ..now that you've had some colder weather as it given you any ideas about heating for next year. As I'm not to far from you I'm looking for ideas to heat my place that don't include wood burners .there alright for you youngsters but I'm getting on in life so push button for me do you know how much a 11 or 12kg lpg costs and have you seen any differences in wood prices as it come down much ..cheers John ,

    • @Portugalonashoestring
      @Portugalonashoestring  16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you John. Many a true word is spoken in jest😁
      We buy bottles of propane , I am not sure what size they are but they are the size that are usually fitted in portable gas fires. They cost about €35 euro if you already have a bottle and if you need a bottle it is an extra €10. I don't know the price of butane but I think it is just a few euros cheaper. Bottles are available from most supermarkets and all petrol stations are obliged by law to sell them. Prices seem to be the same wherever you go so we just use whichever is most convenient.
      An alternative that may possibly work for you is some small diesel heaters as used as night heaters in lorries and motorhomes. 😊

    • @greencheek4561
      @greencheek4561 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi
      Is that what your considering doing. A diesel heater. I was thinking along the lines of a lpg combi boiler l a ariston 1 the type you find in static caravans. Or a electric combi boiler. Both cost around the same to fit not to sure if the electricity would be sufficient for the electric one though,

    • @Portugalonashoestring
      @Portugalonashoestring  16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Our plan is to fit a wood burner eventually but that would only heat one end of the house. We are considering fitting a diesel heater at the other end just for the one room. But plans can, and usually do, change😁 you are very lucky if you have radiators already, property with them are few and far between here. Very little in the way of central heating, although radiators are available in most large DIY shops. Whereabouts are you going to be?

    • @greencheek4561
      @greencheek4561 16 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hi Brian
      Plans do change 😊 there's nothing in the property at the moment so I can put in whatever I decide. That's the hard part deciding what to do. I'm in a place called vilar de boi. I'm just waiting to see if I'm excepted for the D7 I've had my appointment just waiting for results. I'm hoping to start renovation work around may June,

      We are between Avelar and figueiro dos vinhos in Leiria. If you are starting from scratch it may be worth looking at air conditioner units. They can be used to heat as well as cool but I know that all the people who have had them fitted also need additional heaters in the winter.
