You might struggle goose winging with such a small jib, I find that the jib has to be pretty large to get a good goose wing. You’d want the clew to come right down and past main mast, but then it might foul the yard.

Lug with a jib? Why not? Works for me. Much better upwind performance and tacking. My rig is from Sail~Rite (kit) for the Pooduck Skiff. I run it on an 18ft Grumman canoe with trimaran outriggers. 54ft main and a 19ft jib. It will easily keep up with most typical sailboats in the 20ft range.

It's a little weird, but it works lol. Very nice! I imagine that thing would fly. The sailrite kits are great. Very economical if you can sew.

@@cumberlandrover Even if you can't sew, the learning process is forgiving, anf the kits are so well marked that it's hard to get it terribly wrong. Yes, the Grumman 18 is quite fast under sail. It's great to use as a camping rig. A little wet when the chop is up, but the pump takes care of it well enough. cheers👍

Looks like she has better performance with the Jib. Awesome. Might have to get one of those tilting drink holders so your beverage doesn’t spill. The Jib looks like a great addition to your sail plan. Cheers.

so I know this video is old, but I think it would help a lot if you were able to lace that mizzen sail to it's mast and increase tension in the sprit to flatten it out. The amount of fullness in your mizzen is probably contributing to the weather helm you are feeling with just main and mizzen.

That makes sense. I may give it a try this spring.

I agree with all the performance aspects that you memtioned.
That said between the new jig the lug main and the marconi mizzen that is one cool looking boat you can feel very proud of her.

That's interesting, I thought you would need standing rigging to cope with the head sail. Glad to see it work well. Thanks for sharing.

Try a piece of schedule 80 PVC pipe for your bowsprit. That would likely be less costly than a piece of one-inch round oak.

    Great upgrade.
I think it may be possible to rig a club boom from stem head to the jib`s clew when sailing wing on wing .
    Great boat !

Is the boat just a regular row boat with slight modifications? Or is it specifically for sailing?

It's designed primarily to sail. Rowing is the backup/auxiliary power.

Unconventional but it seems to work nicely.
