FLASH NEWS !!! We just released an option to download the TEXT version of the fan chart. Find this and the shared options in the upper right corner of the chart.
Thanks, I just tried it, but I got the colorized chart each time I tried to download the fan cnart, whether it was the text chart or the colorized chart.
Thanks, once again, Connie for the informative video. Right after I finished watching it, I uploaded my GEDCOM file to My Heritage and explored the family tree fan feature. Amazing! It makes it super easy to see holes in your family tree. Another amazing feature that needs to be pointed out is My Heritage's Tree Inconsistency Checker feature which I discovered this morning when I checked my email. My Heritage sent me an email alerting me to the fact that I have 1108 consistency issues in my tree. How incredible is that? I can now go through the list of inconsistencies that they found in my tree and correct them one by one! Very impressive.
What I'm doing is auto-colorize a photo and then tweak/fix problem bits in Photoshop. I can also take a faded/discolored COLOR photograph and run that though and stack/edit both images together in Photoshop and get something better than both. The auto color is great for sky and backgrounds and buildings but not so great on clothes and certain body parts. It over-saturates skin color but you can desaturate in an editor or alter the hue of certain things.
Good episode Connie. Personally, I have almost no confidence in trees on Family Search and, to me, that is one of the problems with MyHeritage. I wish that it was possible on MyHeritage to filter out any information that came from Family Search trees. I recognize that the Theory of Family Relativity is just that, a theory, and maybe I'm throwing out the baby with the bathwater. It's gotten to the point that I hardly use MyHeritage any more (and I have a complete subscription)
Don’t give up on any of the services Herb. You never know when one of them has the answer you seek. Just be sure to evaluate the evidence, but I know you know that already.
Sounds like MyHeritage has an awesome process for their Theory of Relativity. Maybe Ancestry could try that, since most of my DNA matches choose to not build trees. 😩. Thank you, Connie. Very informative.
Great episode Connie! I just wanted to add the reason the colours change in the fan chart when you change the person is because there is a standard they are following...Father's father is blue, father's mother is green, mother's father is red or orange, mother's mother is yellow. Then as you go further back, the generations will keep the colour of the first person of that colour. Ie. All the ancestors of father's father will be blue. So when you change the central person in the centre of the fan chart, the colours change to reflect the relationships of that person. :)
Yes... thank you for the clarification. Some people want consistent coloring starting from the home person (or themselves). It would be great to have the option. I know FamilySearch has a similar pattern. Thanks Jacquie... good to hear from you. Hope you are well.
Quick question. Why would an ancestor add just an "S" to their last name after immigrating to the U.S.? I have an ancestor who left Ireland in 1832 with the surname "Power" to immigrate to Canada where they kept the name until they immigrated to the U.S. At this point, in 1865, the name changed to "Powers". I always assumed names were shortened, or simplified, to a U.S. standard upon immigration. Doesn't seem to be the case here. Any ideas?
I don't have a specific answer to your question... but variances in names are common. For example Madsen, Matson, Madson, Mattson... are various ways my own ancestors was found in different records. Often people spelled the names as they heard them.
Jeff Powers my idea as my grandfathers name was wood but when he and his brother came into Canada together in 1904. I think they were addressed as the WOODS boys so probably it stuck

Thanks Daniel. I pinned your note to the top. 👍

Yes so true. Not perfect but easy for those not as talented as you.

@@GenealogyTV Have no problem with the documents available on Family Search. My problem is with too many of the trees in Family Search.

Thanks Carol.

Can you change the color of their clothes if you don't like what the program did?
Good video, I just want to say that if you have a free account on My Heritage you could only have 250 people in the tree.
Thanks!
