In 2019, I caught my first largemouth bass and that was a surprise. I didn't know they even existed in the Sierras but I've caught them every year since. About 2-3 years ago, a came across two different anglers who were talking about smallmouth catches. This trip is the first time I've ever caught them.
This day was exceptional, not the norm. Bass are found all over now in the lower Sierra rivers and tributaries but you never know exactly where until you go out and try. There are times where I hit a dozen different locations before I find any. Typically, I'm fishing for trout but when I find a pocket of fish or an area that "looks right" for bass, I'll switch out gear and target them... good luck.
Damn I never knew there was small mouth

Around which area is this? My cousin wants to target bass on our next trip. Great catches for sure!
