    Nice video and coverage on the differences. I’m still a fan of Marantz. Really like their sound. Use them for both home theater and 2 channel music. Both are great.

    Great video and very informative. I would like to clarify some of your information. The processing information is not including the subwoofer channels. So for example, the 7015 has 9 amplifier channels but will process 11.2 channels of information with the inclusion of an outboard stereo amplifier. Which allows for a 7.2.4 without the outboard amplifier you can only connect via the speaker terminals a 5.2.4 or 7.2.2. The SR8015 is an 11.2 receiver but can do 13.2 processing with an outboard amplifier. Again the SR6015 is a 11.2 receiver but only has 9 amplified channels. You kinda of mention it later in the video but the charts are confusing. I think you should list the number of powered channels and the number of processed channel with an outboard amplifier. Again very informative video.

      I appreciate you taking the time to provide those corrections. I will review but there is a good chance you are right. I can already see one point where I was clearly wrong.
      I keep evolving how I represent these processors and receivers. I believe the format I used on my latest JBL Sythesis post does a better job.
      What I do now is have four colors to represents the channels in the graphical depiction -
      1) grey = fixed channel pre-out only
      2) blue = configurable pre-out only
      3) orange = fixed amplified output
      4) red = configurable amplified output
      By “configurable” I mean it’s use is optional e.g. to configure the output for front wide or height channels - either/or but not both.
      To get the data right I use to populate those graphics and tables I will need to study the manufacturer’s resources more carefully. One confirmed I will report back.-Jon

    Great video but I believe you made a mistake at 31:51 in regards to the "Fix #2" HDMI 2.1 "A" board upgrade option, that is strictly for the 2018 Marantz AV8805 owners to purchase the "A" 2.1 board upgrade & is not an option for the earlier 2020 affected models, if owners are affected by the botched HDMI 2.1 board their only option is to order the free clunky inelegant HDMI 2.1 SPK618 adapter box or simply return the unit for one manufactured after May 2021 with an inferior DAC solution, both options aren't ideal but it is what it is ;)

I was going to buy a Denon but since you find out that only the Marantz AVRs (with serial numbers above 70,000) got to keep the superior AKM4458 DACs I bought a Marantz. Marantz is tempting because of their lack of bugs. However everyone says they don't sound good and audyssey is crap. Curious to get thoughts on this?

    • @ripewave
      @ripewave  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael - I have similar concerns. No question the units are feature rich and with the financial muscle of Sound United they can afford to give the software proper attention. I do feel that the Marantz sound quality is good, but not as good as others - Anthen, Emotiva and others. Why Marantz and Denon hang on to Audyssey is a bit of a mystery. I suspect favorable licensing arrangement could be directing them. I have heard that enhancements to Audyssey are coming. If that comes true and they can equal and better Dirac they will win that round as then they will have a differentiated offer not a me too.-Jon

      I wonder if they will take design queues from the new Model 30 integrated amplifier? That design appears to have more of a metal mic finish with more interest by applying a second background layer to the front panel. Still a porthole, but the use of multiple solid knobs brings back the 70s classic look in a modernized way.

    Just bought the new Marantz Model 30 two-Chanel integrated amplifier, got rid of my Marantz SR7012 AVR and surround speakers. I'm so done with multichannel home theatre, Audyssey, and multi-layered functions... It's just 2-chanel musical bliss from now on streamed from a PC using Dirac Live and Tidal. - But that's just me. Found out that I never really cared that much about movies. Just got hooked on acquiring the gear.

      Stripping down to focus on stereo playback with a high quality integrated amp like the model 30 will/should result in a more revealing experience - while dispensing of the immersive experience which isn’t for everyone. What remains is truer to the source and you will have a better sense of how the music was intended. -Jon

      I would like to try those speaker options. I may need the help of God to move pipes running through the middle of my theater just under the ceiling to put a Top Center center in place. The ceiling is already low so mounting externally isn’t ideal either. The good news is that I am wired for front wide speakers. I just need an amplifier to drive - one more XPA-DR-2 would be nice. • @ripewave
      @ripewave  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marius - I am not aware of what Sony has planned next. Their releases have been less predictable than other brands as they are currently more focused on gaming, photography and TV markets. Occasionally they launch a home audio product to address a need - blu ray player, headphones and even a receiver. They seem less interested in being first to market with new receiver features like 8k capability, but I suspect will launch once the adoption curve is further along.-Jon

    Why is 8K such a big deal? There is no native 8K material out there yet. Big hoopla over nothing - 4K/120 Hz makes sense - for gamers. Most 4K movies are 60 FPS as well - a waste of money in my opinion until both native data and 8K players are commonplace.

    • @ripewave
      @ripewave  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a fair comment. It will be interesting to see how the future plays out. I was unsure about 4K until it became more mainstream with content - now I can’t look back. Will I feel the same in a few years about 8K or have we reached the point of diminishing returns? I am optimistic that I will notice the improvement in picture experience between 4K and 8K and I believe the content will become more common - but maybe it takes more than three years to be as common as 4K sources today. -Jon

    Where did you get these channel numbers from? they're almost all completely wrong. The X6700 and SR8015 do not process 15 channels, neither do the 8500 or AV8805A. They're 13 channels. The AV7706 does 11 channels, not 13. The Denon A1H does 15 channels.

    • @ripewave
      @ripewave  ปีที่แล้ว

      This all gets very confusing as brands represent counts differently - sometimes they even state one thing on their web site and another in the manual. That does not mean the counts are wrong, you just need to understand how they are counting. I am trying to normalize to one methodology. I count channels of processing as the main count. Subwoofers count only 1 unless they are independent outputs. -Jon
