This movie is immaculate and though I never understood at first, the moment I stepped on the stage again- was the moment I understood.
They weren't having their usual auditions anymore.. it was their test to see their worth as stage girls, striving for that spotlight. And even in that spotlight, they still struggle because they still strive to shine on their own. That's why Mahiru told Hikari that she wants to see not an imitation, but the real Hikari. Acting isn't just acting and pretending. You HAVE to feel the character and understand their struggles and logic. In the story, the character's development lies in their understanding. Mahiru wants Hikari to understand why she left Karen and for Hikari to understand the conflict between her and Karen. The entire movie is about their character development. The reason why Nana said that the entire thing isn't an audition is because IT REALLY WASN'T. It was supposed to be the real thing, the real play, what we wanted to see. We wanted to see the real "starlight". We wanted to see a development and their acceptance of starlight. One loses, while the other wins. But we realize that the one who lost also saw the starlight: the brilliance of the other. So either way they win because even though they're not the main focus of the revues, they still are important to the winners' victory and they saw the brilliance they want to see. In the other end credits song "Saisei sanbikyoku" there's a line that says "even if it's the apple in the garden of Eden. That's what makes it brilliant" remember that the apple may be an apple but it was the one that caused the conflict between Adam, Eve and God. So even if the loser lost, it was still important because it caused the story's development and the Characters' development too.
Personally speaking I think the line "how many times does a star burst can be translated literally and figuratively.
I believe I learned that when stars die it gives way for nurseries which gives way for newborn stars. Figuratively speaking, it could mean that when someone's finished their role, they're "reborn" on another. That's what they meant about meeting on another stage. They're reborn even after the role. They'll take multiple lives as actresses and one failure wouldn't mean the end. They'll be reborn each day as they get better. New goals for each day, even after getting a main role. Their love for the stage is worth more than the main role. That's what a true stage girl is.
The Moment starting at 6:52 is FCKING TRANSCENDENT.
Those last two minutes are enough to make this movie and the soundtrack a 10/10.

it's been more than a year since i watched this when your subs came out. this song was goated before but starting from 5:37 it comes god tier and one of the best things i have ever heard.

Seeing it play out in the movie is an amazing experience as well, without a doubt much more emotional especially if you understand the story. But I wouldn't blame you if you want to keep the mystery.

it's even more emotional with context and the whole entire series backing it. genuinely the song is way more impactful if you've watched revue starlight and both of the movies, i give it a wholehearted recommend. definitely my favorite anime of all time
I think my favorite line in this whole thing is "It's the light (Hikari) that burns your eyes."
just THINKING about this song moves me to tears. starlight fucking invented a whole new relationship archetype and then explored it in 60 different ways.
I loved your subs for the movie!! so much effort and detail, it's like. exactly what I would have wanted to do if I knew Japanese and how to do all the technical stuff that went into it.
a small request: I would love to see you make lyrics videos for the songs from the series if you had the inclination to ever make them (with either your own translations or more likely the already available ones). your lyrics videos are just so we'll put together and I always struggle to find kan/rom/eng videos for them. just putting it out there that there is definitely still a desire for those to be made by someone.

7:17 the most deepest lines I've ever heard :) and the most deepest scene was then they threw away their red cloaks. And it was flying like silhouettes of birds. And the fact that they showed Kaoruko threw it after Hikarichan :>
