I keep coming back periodically to listen to this. It takes me back to 79/80 when i was a young impressionable teen. Love this so much.... the best cover I've heard.
I am a great fan of Gary Neuman your cover of down in the park Is just simply astounding and amazing too. You’ve got talent and something I that would listen to over and over again gary I would think you’ve done his song really really well I would buy anything you produce because you’ve got a way with music that translate into note only great to listen to but it’s a deep atmospheric and respectful sound to the awesome the Gary Neuman who is still making new sounds and your never to old for music.
Very nice!!! I love playing this on my Acousitc Grand. Whenever I play this peice for someone two bars in they are like WHAT is that song...immediatley hooked.
This is just Sublime. By far The Best cover of my favourite Numan song that I've EVER heard. Mind totally blown. Speechless. AMAZING doesn't even come close. 🤯 WOW.
Attempt? You nailed it, and is an AMAZING cover, definitely the best I've come across here on TH-cam. Well done❤ I'd love to collaborate with you, as synth/keyboard/piano has been a hobby of mine since I was 12 years old. My first song ever learned was Metal, followed by Down In The Park. Cheers!!😁
Mine too! So much I too had to make a cover. Not as good as your, but it was fun. :) When you make a cover, you can really noticed the originality and splendid "craftsmanship" by Numan in songwriting, there is almost an mathematical clarity to the pieces :) MIne more of a "all in" version ;) th-cam.com/video/E5JmaSAFHs8/w-d-xo.html
A truly magnificent cover. A triumph. Captures the desolate coldness within the verses contrasted against the soaring chords when the crescendo truly takes off
Really well done. Its what a cover should be - the original song changed into something that's your own creation. Too many covers these days are just people playing the song the same way. A few things I really liked: your intro, the layering from 4:20 onwards, and what a great job you did mixing it all together. Congrats on a great cover.
I'm a little late to this party however I love this, magnificent and majestic take on this masterpiece. You have recreated this epic soundscape which was unique for its time and reinvigorated it for a new generation.... wonderful 👏👏👏
I was just in my teens when Gary Numan hit commercial success, his music just seemed to open my ears to something new and special. His music around the Pleasure principle era was enlightning, It's rare that a cover enhances the original feeling of an artists creation in music, This cover is truely amazing, I listen to it in my cinema room in 7.1, close my eyes and drift into the music, pure genius sir
You must..., I repeat..., you must get someone to sing on this track. I still have the cassette of this album. This is what got me into electronic music in the late 70s as a kid. Awesome job here.
Echo what the others have said here, I'm a long time numan fan and this is a great cover, very atmospheric and true to the original ... have you ever thought of collaborating with a vocalist ... with the right one, it could really take this somewhere special. Thanks for posting, a great listen
Thank you so much for your lovely comment. This is only a little hobby for me, every now and again I have a try at some of my favourite songs that's all. This one is however, my favourite cover. And my favourite Gary Numan song. Best wishes to you.
Beautiful work. Please do a cover of Replicas. Gary used to open his live shows with Replicas and I wish he'd go back to doing so. I'd love to hear your take on it.
Pure bliss. Your cover has so eloquently and gracefully captured that haunted Gary Numan sound that I miss so much. I only wish Gary would soften his musical approach these days, and produce music that was more ethereal and sensitive, such as what you're playing here. I"m afraid that the more-recent, relentless "industrial" wall of sound has been done and redone by Gary, perhaps to the point of driving the nail as far as it can go? As much as I admire him and will continue to follow his path, I have to admit that I find very little that captivates me from his more recent material. "I Am Dust" is the only track from the past ten years that captures a bit of yearning, a touch of that classic Gary Numan sound. Gary says he likes to move on and not tread on the past, to reinvent himself all the time, but has he not written album after album about hating god and playing music that stays rigidly in an aggressive, monolithic "Nine Inch Nails" format? I miss the sensitive yet stoic Gary, the troubled soul who pours his emotions in sweeping synths and forlorn melodies. I would love to see Gary produce a new album of more gentle and wistful material, more ambient and abstract. Sorry for my lengthy response to your otherwise fantastic track. I love what you've done!
23SVC23 Thankyou. Very kind to pass by and comment. His 79,80 era is iconic and sometimes it's best to leave it there for posterity because in my opinion, it was perfect music and I doubt he could have improved it by revisiting it.
I have much the same feelings about this as you. Although I do enjoy the Industrial version of Numan, his old music had something extra, something hard to define and quantify. It was the way it reached out and touched me in a haunting, melancholy way, and the knowledge that apparently Gary felt the same way I did about many things. In those old days, he wrote rich, vast, sweeping sonic vistas as well as punchy machine-pop that are forever embedded in my heart.
How can you expect a man to do what he did for so long and not get sick of it? I am not the biggest fan of Gary Numan's current stuff, but he himself has said that he's not a nostalgic man, and I can only guess that continuing to do what he did in his heyday would've been eventually his demise. A one trick pony that doesn't care for making more music, because he'd only be repeating himself. I'm glad he's changed, atleast he's loving what he does.
Brilliantly remastered ... I hope GN has heard it. Went to see GN recently and he was fab. A cult following. Have a listen to Tall Paul Remix of Blondie`s Atomic ... fabulous.
All sounds are presets bar the Vox Humana Polymoog patch which I got from vstreamdotbe For a sample it's as close to the real Polymoog that I have heard. Unfortunately the upload to youtube gets damaged due to the compression. All my covers sound way better here at home prior to the upload. Glad you like and best wishes and good luck with your Fantom...! Enjoy muchly.
What presets are you using-and what Vsynths? I'd love to learn more about how you put this together! It'd be a wonderful follow-up video (even if it was all done on your computer). So much emphasis these days on hardware synths--but in the end the SOUND is what is most important!
@Nos482 - Many thanks. We have Mr Numan to thank for this incredible song. 32 years I have been listening to this song and never ever get bored of it. Glad you liked my cover of it. Best wishes. VC
WOW...I went to sleep with this playing in my head phones and I could imagine Gary Numan singing so vividly...this is an amazing rendition!!! Nice job my friend!!!
Holy sh…! What did I just listen to? Your song just took me on a trip around the world in 6:49 minutes. Absolutely brilliant! So pure and warm and in perfect harmony.
Oh my freak'en lord, this cover version is so excellent! I usually don't like most covers and God forbid mixes, but this is fantastic. -great job -just magical
The thing about Gary Numan is that he has a squeaky voice and a lush arrangement that provide an interesting contrast: it suggests that the world is fraught with limitation, however sublime the vision. And it makes you think that the human is greater than the whole, that they exceed the limitations. You have present the a nice version of the sublime -- but a squeaky voice would heighten the whole thing and make it really sublime.
You have taken DITP and the very essence of it , understood all the elements of the song and pulled it all together to form the most perfect version of my all time favourite song. The haunting melody and power is immense! Well done 👍🏻
Well done! I wish Numan had finished the story the album was made for. I could see it being a pretty great movie too. At least the sounds transport us to that world he was trying to create.
OMG - this is pure genius, the best version I've ever heard. Can't stop playing it. As a mahoosive Numan fan I take my hat off to you - well done. Keep em coming!
I've been listening to G. Numan since I was 9 years old in 1979. I still listen to him on vynil (and vynil only !). My son and I went to see him again n Dublin Two years ago, he was fantastic, brilliant and we will never forget him. My son was 22 then. I'll never tire of his music
My fav numan song ever. I especially like the way you combined piano, album and live versions into one. An amazing cover I am sticking on my favourites.

Among the best of Synth Pop, deep 80’s. A vibe no one who hasn’t lived then will be able to feel.

Just stunning. I'm so happy so many fans still listen to his music. It still makes me feel like a 15 year old boy. Thank you.
Bravo, while playing this rendition, I experienced an out of body episode. Thanks for that!
Gary Numan is absolutely untouchable, but this is just brilliant...
i could listen to that all day. A truly great cover
Really well done. Its what a cover should be - the original song changed into something that's your own creation. Too many covers these days are just people playing the song the same way. If you're going to take on a classic like this, then you've got to do it right, and you have! Well impressed.
