The Hammond B3 is one of the greatest sounds of the Sixties and Mr. Earl Grant was one of a few artists who knew all too well how to get the most out of that exquisite organ!
My grandmother had 2 of his LP's (Spotlight On... and the all instrumental Bali Hai). This will blow people's minds: were it not for Earl (and Young-Holt Unlimited), I might not have grown to appreciate not only The Allman Brothers Band but also all the classic modern jazz legends (Miles, Trane, Monk, MJQ, DBQ, Pat Metheny, etc.).
My dad had an eight track and he played Patsy Cline, Eddy Arnold, Herb Alpert, Tom Jones and Henry Mancini. But the one that l remember the most: Earl Grant
"Exotica" album (from 1959) ? / Tiki Culture music; Martin Denny... This sounds like the intro to "Pee Wee's Playhouse" tv show.. the tropical rainforest creatures...
You know, Earl was as effortless at coaxing sounds out of the organ as Ethel Smith was. Two different approaches, but both made musical magic nonetheless.
My grandpa told me about seeing Earl Grant in clubs in 1950s south central Los Angeles. What a legend!
ABSOLUTELY GENIUS!!!!!!! LOVE !!!!!!

This is great. Never heard of Earl Grant. Thanks for letting me know!
This generation does little know of Earl Grant's talent.
I just found out about him through Lovecraft Country
Two feet playing pedals is not easy but Mr. Grant makes it look easy. This technique requires a great deal of balance.
So SAD that this TALENT was SO unrecognized!
As a little kid in the late 50s, I would listen to Grant's LPs...I loved the sounds he made even then. I ended up a B-3 player myself.
