    Really nice job! I also like the way you explained that tightening up the vocal is specific to certain genres, but can be used as desired in others. A good example of when that would not be desirable is in a song like Rehab by Amy Winehouse. In the chorus where she sings, "I won't go, go, go" the the "goes" are well behind the beat, which creates a sense of pulling that is perfect for the message.

    It took me forever to fix this problem. To clarify, I had a huge issue with flex pitch. When I would use it, the timing would shift and there would be tempo fluctuations. What I ended up doing was adding flex time on to the tracks after I would add flex pitch to a track. A lot of time mine defaults to the "slicing" flex time setting. I usually will have to add it to another setting like the "monophonic" settings for synth basses and "rhythmic" for guitars. I hope this works for you because I can get mine to work overtime. Good luck!

    • @theclaverman

      Buy melodyne! Just do it. Logics flex time is almost useless as it leaves so many digital artifacts even on the parts you`re not flexing. It will just drive you crazy.

      I own melodyne and it is so difficult to use I have given up on it.

    What about Logic version 10.4? It seems to totally screw up the audio timing if you apply it to a whole track..

    1. At 4.06 you drag down to zoom a track vertically - I cant do that.. (I have version 10.4.1, if that's related..) When I take my pointer there I dont get the vertical zoom icon you do (i only get it at the sides of the track area to zoom horizontally..). Is there some setting to enable this downward track drag?
    2. How do i set the playhead to RETURN to its starting point whenever I press space again to stop it from playing (after I've pressed play to start playing, of course)? I want to be able to press space to stop the playhead, and it to come back to the part of the track where it left from. Is this possible?? It works like that in cubase but can't figure it out here..
    3. Is there a way to set markers (automatically to begin with, and then manually for any corrections thereafter) at all the downbeats throughout the track so that Logic "warps" the track and then the entire track and places every beat where it should be on the grid; so that whenever i change the arrangement's BMP, the track will automatically change its tempo and "sit" perfectly on the new tempo grid?

  • @tjgrote1

    Great video! Do you get the sense that the tone of the vocal shifts when applying Flex Time (Polyphonic)? For some reason, I hear the vocal in my session get thinner within the Flex Time processed portion of the region. It’s as if the Flex Time process adds a very subtle 3-5k boost and cuts the low end. I hear this before any EQ or dynamic processing is placed on the track.

    • @hughhart5972
      @hughhart5972 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wasn't sure if that was my imagination, but I think you're right. the vocal, to my ears, becomes a bit "metallic" sounding sometimes after applying the flex time alogrhythm.

    • @cityraintunes
      @cityraintunes 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It certainly does. Polyphonic is generally the best algorithm it has to offer. But even that isn't perfect. Melodyne is a good bit cleaner. But it also depends on if you are playing this in the context of a full mix. Harder to notice.

    Great video... but what's the trick to avoiding Logic's "crackle" artifact that often accompanies flex pitch/time? Did this latest version resolve it or do we still have to eventually switch over to Melodyne after frustration?

    • @cityraintunes
      @cityraintunes 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      hey! (its the guy from the video) did you try switching the flex mode to "polyphonic". This helps read the vocals the best to avoid that stuff.
