Hearing raw tracked vocals is so helpful as someone learning to scream. I am really starting to notice how much parallel distortion is used by the bands I listen too.
@Josh Smith I feel like that has to be lesson 1 for anyone learning to scream or else there will be some vocal damage trying to replicate processed vocals.
God fukn dammit, I take my hat off to anyone capable of processing vocals like these from any band. 2 minutes of listening to these tracks and I’d give the band their money back and tell them never to call me again
These lows in the vocals make it sound it wasn't recording in a very good room. Still, it's nice to see what these harsh vocals sound like when raw, gives perpective to the mixing job to do.
@Robviolli Unfortunately, Alex Koehler is a terrible vocalist so a different vocalist would probably sound a lot better raw, but I understand what you mean
The API EQ and Pultec EQ’s are so confusing...and the UAD 1176’s are quite difficult to remember which series applies best. Also.. I am with you on not using pultec stuff as often as most. I even have a few real ones that I never requested..
Joshua Whitley I really like it, but its easy to do wrong, and can fuck you up easily, i think his vocals were at their best on my damnation, before the vocal abuse got to him, but while he was still giving it his all.
Oliver Hart No he left because he checked into rehab for alcoholism and pill addictions. He couldn’t record while in rehab and Alex + the band decided to move on without him
Matthew Bratton yeah, but anything after Desolation of Eden is all downhill. If you ever listen to their live shows post 2012, he just can’t keep up with how his vocals are in the studio with processing. I feel it has to do with his technique. Tom Barber fucking slays though, you hear the new track Bleeding Sun?
Yeah the raw vocals and hearing it without the track doesn't sound great lol but I won't lie I did really like the album and still jam it on my playlist.
Yep, so good that I actually got the original song on my phone after watching this because it sounded pretty cool. Kind of a shame though for the vocalist.
@@onelesswitness589 Toms vocals have range but they’re all are lazy, weak and airy as hell fam. He’s a quantity over quality vocalist but he does have some decent highs
I personally don't think that Chelsea Grin has put out a bad record yet. Every time they put something out there is AT MOST 1 songs I just straight up am not a fan of. And that's usually lyrical content and not the music.
William Walsh I'm sure there are quite a few people that could, but I doubt they'd want to take the time out of their lives to cover something so shitty
I really wish people would stop making stupid ass comments like this. You don't have to be a professional musician to know what sounds like shit, just like you don't have to be a fucking professional chef to know what doesn't taste good.

Listen to the vocal track of You Only Live Once by Suicide Silence. That shit breathes distortion.
lmfao when he laughed at the vocals
Lmao this guys roasting Alex’s vocals so fucking hard damn metal guys are brutal and ruthless 😂
I'm just a steakhouse jubilee
most underrated comment on this video
hilarious
Baaaaahahahahaha
😂
Hahaha i lost it when Eyal started to bring in the vocals
Crazy how the compressor turned it from "I'm just a circus jubilee" to "I'm just as sick as you believe"
"I'm just as sick as you believerrrghhhhkjjjjjhhh!!"
14:35 for the "ayyy".
Comedy gold!
The vocals make me think I might be the next god of deathcore 😂😂
Same 😂
Stripes Literally, my raw vocals are better than his raw vocals, and Ive only been at this for a year, this dudes made a career out of this.
@@pietandersen6120 Doing it wrong fucks your voice up... who would of thought
you just need a good microphone, good capture and be a the god of mixing.
vocal performance is 60% for live shows.
Kind same. I do need to work on my highs more though

"Sorry guys"
Lol
8:41 to hear the one Alex low in the entire vid
Ornstein Sulyvahn right? it was really good
God fukn dammit, I take my hat off to anyone capable of processing vocals like these from any band. 2 minutes of listening to these tracks and I’d give the band their money back and tell them never to call me again
Learning to mix with Dr. Eggman

Still, it's nice to see what these harsh vocals sound like when raw, gives perpective to the mixing job to do.
FSBass It also gives more confidence to aspiring vocalists who constantly beat themselves up about not sounding like some their favorite vocalists
It was recorded by some friend of theirs. I have no idea what the setup was, but I'm sure it was suboptimal.
I'd say vocals was suboptimal. Never liked baby pterodactyl vocals
@Robviolli Unfortunately, Alex Koehler is a terrible vocalist so a different vocalist would probably sound a lot better raw, but I understand what you mean
@ianster101 well it's true, he's god awful and sucks a big hairy weiner
im never not going to laugh at these vocals
he sounds like spongebob
STRAIGHT UP! I can hear that haha

Also.. I am with you on not using pultec stuff as often as most. I even have a few real ones that I never requested..
I'd just focus on a solid fry scream rather than trying that early BMTH high scream that just pierces your ears. Solid lows though
Joshua Whitley I really like it, but its easy to do wrong, and can fuck you up easily, i think his vocals were at their best on my damnation, before the vocal abuse got to him, but while he was still giving it his all.
@@pietandersen6120 for sure, he fucked his voice bad and I think that was a driving part of him leaving the band right?

whaaat? he's doing FC screams there. FC and frys are 2 different types of distortion, and they both can be high, mid or low
The 'ayyy' vocal sound is there on the final mix. I can't make it more than 5 seconds in without laughing..
Cool video, though; I learned a bunch!
Would love a copy of that ayyy file lol
That's what I call a timeless style.
Came to watch a mixing tutorial. Got an exorcism on steroids, instead.
what program are you using to mix? just wondering.
Pro Tools
oh okay. thank ya
Best thing to do: work on the quality of your vocals instead of hiding behind effects.
Yes😂
NO.
ai
Lol you should definitely cover this song
Fucking amazing production job.
I'M JUST A SACK OF JUBILEE!!!!!!
His laugh is so awesome ...
I legit thought this was Action Bronson when the video first started
14:35 when you step on a lego

Polished to the max
ive watched this multiple times, by this point im just here for a laugh XD
00:14 Isn't that a bad thing?
Alex watching this like 👁👄👁
Joey: "I do this stuff too"
I'm now dying to hear all the mix engineers' folders of stupid sounds out there
We should be paying for something like this, thanks!
no please
ayyyy
All I hear is Spongebob going crazy
His vocals are fucking dope and I'll never think otherwise
Is it worth it to quad track vocals and use this method panned left and right?
Russ Bradshaw are you trolling or actually asking?
Russ Bradshaw You generally need a vocal track in the center, so probably 3 tracks ( center as main and L/R as doubles ) would work better.
Doesn’t work as well with vocals as it doesn’t guitars all of the little difference are much more audible when panned
Yeah the raw vocals and hearing it without the track doesn't sound great lol but I won't lie I did really like the album and still jam it on my playlist.
1:48
I still love it :)
Believe it or not this dude inspired my high vocals & my screams sound gnar AF! I can’t hate on this dude. My damnation was my warm up song 🤘🏻
As funny as this was, no dry vocals sound good :')
Adam Barkley Austin Dickey and Ben Duerr are an exception, their dry vocals are better than most processed vocalists.
Jackson Butler Don’t forget Alex Terrible and Dickie Allen. I’d probably throw ole Darius from Spite too.
Gary of Rivia Ben Duerr and Dickie Allen are unmatched to date
Gary of Rivia Darius is a maniac
Bullshit. If u need to edit your vocals to sound good guess what? you arent a vocalist.
Thats some chef mike shit. Cooked to perfection.
Raw
Vocals remind me of that clip where oil Sykes sounds like spongebob ragin
ayy lmao
What song is this?
S.H.O.T by Chelsea Grin
Man the vocalist must have felt really terrible about himself after watching this...
Okay if you want the same vocals but better listen to the black dahlia murder trust me.
Those vocals sound goofy without the mix and instruments. First time
I heard the track thought they were brutal af
What's the point of being so fucking disrespectful? If you don't like it it's as simple as not mixing it.
I'm guessing you've never met a producer before

Alex Koehler is a fcking legend
I want you to mix my vocals xD
Eyal...nice work. You made one of the shittiest vocal tracks I have ever heard sound pretty dang decent.
Yep, so good that I actually got the original song on my phone after watching this because it sounded pretty cool. Kind of a shame though for the vocalist.

Wrong
Dan kaiser no exactly "right"

Tom for the win

I 100% disagree. This is when they got good.

you kidding? Don't Ask Don't Tell is their best song
What a pathetic vocalist... Good on Eyal for making the best of what he's got to work with.
+Zachary Williams DOE was even worse hahaha
tom barber does way better now haha
LMAO 1:38

He’s trying so hard to be professional 😂😂
hahahaha
Im just so sick of jubilee
Hahaha
he is not bad at all you are all just blind to how real vocals sound raw and no lives dont matter can microphones have enhancing effects
vasilis vks
I'm pretty sure a professional's screams shouldn't be that bad.
yeah u think all those proffessionals are the biggest talents of the world dont u? stop beeing delusional
vasilis vks
You love to over exaggerate things don't you?
Dude i get the NTM tracks every month and good vocals sound good right out of the box. This is just bad.
Shawn Slawter this album was like 7 years ago
Why does everyone think he’s such a shit vocalist, I think he’s good
Lol at people making fun of Alex. Why don't you do a cover and show us how it's done?
William Walsh I'm sure there are quite a few people that could, but I doubt they'd want to take the time out of their lives to cover something so shitty
OK, will do

Honestly they dont even sound that bad. Not great, but not had
Dude this guy is not a good metal vocalist at all. That much work. Shouldn’t have to go into a vocal.
Alex was such a bad Vocalist 😂. Tom is fucking awesome though.
Toms lows are fuckin GARBAGE but yeah his highs are good
