My 2002 Ktm 125 is every 30hrs for new rings, then 60hr new piston and rings, then bottom end and main bearing every 4 piston changes, you probably need the barrel skimming as well. But all parts are relatively cheap compared with 4 stroke parts and maintenance. If you can fix a 2 stroke yourself and you have the spare time it will probably cost less then running a 4 stroke off road bike.

@@Mike-vs3dv new piston for my KTM with rings is half the price for a 2 stroke, and I could buy the most expensive piston and rings and it still won't cost £200, I could do the crank shaft bearings and main bearing as well for £200.

Everyone asking how often you rebuild the motor 🤦 it's a 125 Motocross bike it spends 90% of its life flat out that's what it's made for. I've seen a few KTM 125s with 200 to 300 hours of use on the original piston it's nothing to them, just mix your petrol right, warm the bike up properly every ride before thrashing it, keep the air filter clean and your bike will last forever unless you get unlucky that is 🤪

I find play riding can be far harder on bikes than actually racing as alot of the time in my case anyway you're on the bike for a longer duration than a race given that proper races are half an hour and alot are far less due to multiple classes and events on the same day plus you usually have a nice break in between allowing the bike to properly cool down where as when you're play riding or at least when I do you can be on the bike for an hour at a time sometimes at race speed or just exploring and the bike gets less of a break, the bikes I'm talking about where raced and play rode all the time and I recall mentions of rings being changed but that was it. Remember fellas what it says in the manual isn't always gospel especially when it says "piston change every 40 hours" that's the manufacturers covering their asses and is classed as preventive maintenance nothing more but it's always best to venture on the safe side as bikes are expensive 😉 and especially when they're second hand because fuck knows what the last owner was like 👌
