This is a early morning cola-convo, I love these rare interviews and slices of history in Brian's interviews and audio recordings. Spring is really groovy music too
He sounds like a high pitched Mike Love. There are interviews from 73 and 74 where Brian's voice sounded like a cross between 1960's voice and his raspy voice he had in 76.
It did. By 1976 his voice was unrecognizable as it became deeper and more hoarse. There was nothing left of his 60's voice. Sadly it was destroyed by drugs and heavy smoking. He did sound alot better in the 80's onwards though.
Michael Langley for some reason his 80's singing voice sounds like he's just shouting to me. And there are times where I like his 70s voice. I dig a couple of his songs from Love You
hahaha yeah I can hear people talk and decide what drug they are on also, although it could be that this tape isn't playing at the correct speed haha. Who knows for sure, but it seems unlikely that those ladies were "all coked up". Brian has admitted to doing a lot of coke in 73/74 but people don't realize that coke wasn't "HUGE" until about 72-73. 1970 and 71 were still kinda hippie 1969 era, a lot of the worlds population was still just toking grass and doing psychedelics.
for big rock stars from very-late60s-to-'70 onward was when pharmaceutical coke started getting traction and started it's use within the upper then-richer echelons of rock groups as I know McCartney talked about doing much coke during the Let It Be and late era Beatles recording sessions, not to mention your Rolling Stones' and such, Beach Boys key songwriter would def have access to that Calisnow, but again, many people think of coke as like people would be talking loud and rattling and often, but true clean pharmaceutical stuff at the time would have been the euphoric numbing (mostly-mild)stimulant, in fact quality doesnt make people all jittery and stay up for hours against your will after a few, i may have allegedly done some that was so good I could do some and still get to sleep if I wanted to in an hour or two while still high-ish, its usually the cut up stepped on speedy stuff that most people think is the qualities of being 'coked up', like everyone is going to act like Macho Man Randy Savage or something lol. Digressing tho, I agree with you, and I think we've all heard or can hear those interviews where Brian is audibly snorting coke in the background or even offers or asks if people interviewing "you guys snort cociane? No, ok.. just checking.." lol its so funny, he's so pure and honest and upfront, and to your point I think that WAS 1974+. This def was still the hash and mescaline/psych and cigs and uppers/downers early 70s. I too play that game you mentioned :D Peace and Love anyone still reading!
Sounds like 'that thing where you want to be with someone and you string it out till early morning but you fail to make a move on them because you know you shouldn't really, cos shes your sister in law...but you still really want to near with them, so you make up a reason, like an interview'. :-) Maybe Diane was a bit interested in Brian too, who knows (except Diane and maybe Marilyn). I think Diane certainly knew Brian was attracted to her, and here in this she said ' you mean you dont fool around without your wife and ....(indecipherable)'. Can anyone decipher that (at 11:45) ?
I bet Marilyn knew, but she didn't care because she has the ring and paper, Diane doesn't. It's a two for the price of one deal. Brian really was a lucky man here.
"You don’t fool around /when/ it's your wife and sister-in-law." Meaning Brian doesn't mess around with production and writing, as he could be perceived as doing with the Beach Boys.
We kid with love, cocaine and downers, cocaine was a status symbol then, I think it's said with the utmost respect, it's part of their journey and the rock n roll story, esp Brian Wilsons, heck it very well could have just been the nembutals and uppers too I kid of course with love, have nothing but love and respect for Brian and the family and his journey, so grateful he's alive.
This is absolutely Mike Love forging an interview and Marilyn is going along with it. Especially if it was actually form 1971, when Brian was probably retreating. But I could be wrong.
Brian was artistically active until 1973. Not as much as he was for Pet Sounds and the Smile Sessions. But some great Brian Wilson songs were still coming out in the 1971. Til I Die, A Day in the Life of a Tree, and with Spring a son g called Sweet Mountain.

This tape was recorded at about two in the morning. It's also running fast compared with the original: Diane sounds more like Marilyn here.
"Now that I have lost My Diane..."
hahaha
Diane wanted this interview to end as soon as it started it seems.
Great post Great Group,Great Genius that Brian Wilson....Groooovy.Peace,Des.
This is hillarious love The Beach Boys The Honeys and American Spring this is hillarious
Brian sounds like Mike here
Caleb De La Torre I was just thinking that. That's odd
He sounds like a high pitched Mike Love. There are interviews from 73 and 74 where Brian's voice sounded like a cross between 1960's voice and his raspy voice he had in 76.
Michael Langley his voice changed so drastically. Not only this singing voice but is speaking voice

Once had that tape, in a box... :)
Diane sounds like she just woke up.

You don’t fool around without your wife and your sister in law
lol Brian and Diane were already banging by this point

marilyn has a heckuva overbite. dang.
Yea, sure Brian, you and Mike “Spring Is Here” in 1963-64. Then how come it sounds as though it came straight out of Charlie’s mouth?
show some respect
the sound all "coked"
up to me
They probably are.
The tape might be sped up a bit
We know where Brian was at around that time (I'd wager late-stage coke bender + ludes here), but what is _Diane_ on?
Yes it is all it is is fun in the studio they don't sound coked up so show some respect
We kid with love, cocaine and downers, cocaine was a status symbol then, I think it's said with the utmost respect, it's part of their journey and the rock n roll story, esp Brian Wilsons, heck it very well could have just been the nembutals and uppers too

Brian at his physical peak...before he started gaining weight.
Is Diane still alive?
Yes.
In 1971, people were zombies.
Uppers and downers at once :D (sometimes in the same pill like those Nembutals)
I'm pretty sure Diane said this was recorded at like 3 in the morning
This is absolutely Mike Love forging an interview and Marilyn is going along with it. Especially if it was actually form 1971, when Brian was probably retreating. But I could be wrong.
You're joking, right?
