When they asked Jimi Hendrix what its like to be the best guitarist in the world he said they would have to ask Roy Clark.
That cool . Knowing Jimi Hendrix is still best guitarist of all time .. I told Britt last week to check him out ..
And Glen Campbell and Jerry Reed.
Urban legend: Eddie asked Alice Cooper to ask Glen Campbell to ask if Roy would give Eddie a lesson. That's the real story.
That was Eddie Van Halen who said that.
However, when Dick Cavett asked Jimi Hendrix who his favorite guitarist to listen to was, Jimi said it was Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top.
@@darinsutton7638 Stevie Ray Vaughan says hello
I've read that Roy was nervous performing early in his career, and he used the humor to help with that. He was a genius with guitar. And the fiddle, the banjo, the mandolin... as well as several other instruments.
We usually look at rock artists when looking for the greatest guitarists, but Roy Clark was as good as any of them and I mean ANY of them. The guy was a genius with the guitar, banjo and a few other instruments. And he was extremely funny.
You weren't looking but he played it against the microphone stand too.
Luther, was Johnny Cash's lead guitarist, who came up with the tempo, for Folsom Prison Blues, written by and performed first. Roy Clark added the fun parts himself. There is a video of Johnny and Roy performing the song together.
"Folsom Prison Blues" was one of Johnny Cash's signature songs, The Luther that Roy keeps saying is for Luther Perkins who was the lead guitarist of Tennessee Three Johnny Cash's band. There is a video of Roy playing this song along with Johnny on The Johnny Cash show, in which he does some even more outrageous stuff with the guitar. You asked if Roy was a comedian, I prefer to say Roy was an entertainer, he did what ever he needed to do to entertain his audience.
Roy Clark was a treasure to country music . He had a great sense of humor, played anything with strings on it and when he started a song you never knew if you be laughing or crying. Thank You for this Pretty Lady. I think you should check out Roy and Buck Trent doing Dueling Banjo's. I love your reactions❤❤🤠🤠
Roy Clark could play a handsaw, quite literally. He could play anything. He was one of the host on Hee Haw.
Utah Carl.
Luther Perkins was the guitarist that played for Johnny Cash, who originally released Folsom Prison Blues.
Roy Clark and Glen Campbell are always worth a watch!
Thank you. You are absolutely on point. ❤
He is super funny and so talented!!
Roy Clark was a true showman. Funny great musician he could not only play anything with strings but play them well.
Good reaction. Roy Clark is a legend, one of if not the best guitar player ever. You should check more of his videos.
He was also imitating Johnny Cash's voice thus the comedy of getting into his tone.
And Roy Clark was a master entertainer.
He hosted the weekly show Hee Haw for years and years. His humor, musical ability, and good nature made him perfect for it. He had a vocal hit with Yesterday (When I Was Young).
Decades, with pal Buck Owens!! Hundreds of musical artists!! A good clean show...my mom however didn't care for the Daisy Duke's and short tight tops on the Hee Haw Honeys.
I loved that show. Roy Clark was such an amazing muscian.
Also some other Vocals are Thank God & Greyhound you're Gone, Tip of my Fingers, too name a few.
this guy has a great and unique sense of humor....also happens to be one of the best pluckers of strings EVER
Roy Clark was a master of nearly all string instruments, He was a lead player on a country humor "He Haw". Some episodes are posted on TH-cam..
Roy Clark is so under rated yet he is THE BEST guitarist in the entire world!
Great reaction. Roy Clark is hard to categorize. A good singer, a funny comedian, and a master at any stringed instrument. Mostly he played guitar, banjo, and fiddle. Some background on this song. Johnny Cash had it out as a big hit. I always thought Luther refered to Johnny Cash's friend and guitar player Luther Perkins. Some other songs by Roy Clark:
Instrumental:
12th Street Rag
Malaguena
Duelin' Banjos
Under The Double Eagle
Singing:
Thank God and Greyhound
Yesterday When I Was Young
Orange Blossom Special
I will also mention that he was on the TV show Hee Haw from 1969-1992 (the show ran until 1997). So again I come back to him as an all around entertainer.
Listen to him sing yesterday when I was young
I absolutely loved Roy Clark. He seemed like such a wonderful man. He was married only once since 1957 and they had 5 children. He could play anything with strings but he had a song called YESTERDAY WHEN I WAS YOUNG that is in my top favorite songs of all time. You really need to listen to the words to understand and/or appreciate the song. If you choose to react to it, maybe just react to the audio because the live versions I found were when he was much older and he, imo, didn't sing it as well and talked it more than sang it.
I grew up listening to this man every Saturday night. It is so wonderful to see people who aren't familiar react to his talent. It isnt like I have taken it for granted so much as I'm like "Yeah, Roy Clark? Legend." Watching others see it makes my heart happy.
well known for his Guitar skills and humor
Roy was not only a masterful musician, but also a great entertainer, with wonderful comedic skills! Loved Roy!
Luther is Luther Perkins. He was Johnny Cash's guitarist and the creator of the guitar portion of folsom prison blues, but was also personal friends with roy clark. Luther tragically died in a fire due to falling asleep with a lit cigarette in his hand. Roy kept his legacy alive by doing this song.
I knew Johnny Cash's 1st guitar player died in a car accident. Didn't know Roy was friends with him. That's really cool.
Best guitar player ever. And banjo.
Roy Clark could play almost anything and was the best concert I ever saw in my life. When a child I went with my father to a live show in a very small venue and he was a total entertainer.
Hi & thanks for going dwn the Roy Clark rabbit hole...He's a national treasure in my opinion & is wthout a doubt one of the best guitarists who we were ever blessed to wittness his gift to the wrld...Have a gr8t wkend...
First, you are a beautiful young lady with a delightful personality. I hope your hubby treats you like a queen. To the video... Roy Clark was a massive celebrity in his day. He hosted a show with Buck Owen called Hee Haw back in the 70s. It was a country hick (not an insult) comedy/music series. My dad loved it, and so did I. So yes, Roy Clark was a bit of a comedian and was famous for adding comedy to his music routines on stage. He was also a good country music vocalist. That aside, his guitar 🎸 playing is legendary. Not just for fooling around, but serious music. Any all-time great guitarist list that doesn't have Roy Clark in the top is incomplete. He simply is a master. He can play anything with strings. His banjo and fiddle playing is also legendary.
Roy Clark was one of the top guitarists in the world for years.
Roy is a legend and can play anything stringed
My sister and brother-in-law used to go to Vegas a LOT. They said Roy Clark put on one of the best shows they'd seen.
Roy Clark could play all kinds of instruments , piano guitar violin banjo I have even seen him play a trumpet and a saxophone 🤘
Also, check out Roy doing "12th Street Rag"!
Roy was absolutely awesome!!!!
If it had strings, Roy mastered it. Check out "Thank God and Greyhound" Roy did one talking about taking guitar lessons. He always played up being a back woods country boy.
roy clarke was a complete entertainer,he could make the hardeest seem so easy.
Roy Clark was one of the best guitar and banjo player ever
A reporter once asked Jimmy Hendrix what it felt like to be the world's greatest guitarist. Jimmy replied "I don't know ask Roy Clark ". The man was a master a playing anything with strings. Guitar, banjo, fiddle...
You have just watched the MASTER at work - Got to see Roy many times in my life and I so glad I had that chance.
Roy was able to do these comedy routine is because it is so incredibly talented not only on the guitar with the fiddle and banjo and many other instruments!! Listen to him Playing fiddle why is singing orange blossom special! He sings with a young boy named Jimmy playing the banjo at the same time another really really funny routine!! He was on the TV comedy show Yeehaw for years!!
Thanks for bringing this one back around... I remembered I had forgotten it.
I recall watching him on our old black-and-white tv when I was a kid. We didn’t like the show “He-Haw” with its imbecilic humor, but when Roy Clark was playing it made it worthwhile to endure. I first thought he was a banjo player from a TV appearance. Then I found out he was skilled on many other instruments as well. We will never see another like Roy Clark.
His song called Yesterday is haunting
Roy is a guitar virtuoso. He also plays the banjo, which he is also very good at. He was one of the hosts, along with Buck Owens on the 70’s TV variety show Hee Haw. You should watch clips of that, very funny. I grew up watch that and Rowen and Martins Laugh-In, with a very young Goldie Hawn.
Another great example of using the guitar for sound effects is Albert Collins- Too Many Dirty Dishes.
Luther Perkins was the guitarist in the original Johnny Cash recording of the song. Brother of another famous guitarist Carl Perkins who played with Elvis.
Roy Clark was a multi-instrumentalist musician. He was one of the finest entertainers that ever lived. He even had his own theater in Branson, Missouri. I see you have listened to ROY CLARK's "MALAGUENA" He died in Nov. 1918 at age 85.
The master and the jester all in one. Thanks!
He was a true showman
Hey Britt .. more classic Country 🎶. Some of your elders will remember the show "Hee Haw" from the 70s. Roy Clark was a great comedian on this show. He also is a virtuoso on guitar and other instruments. Worth checking out some other videos. 🎼
Wow, I've never seen this one before. A really young Roy Clark.
Wow I saw this video the other day and thought this would be a good video for someone to react to. Great timing and as always I enjoy to watch you to react to songs.
He is THAT GOOD he has to be funny so he doesn't get bored.
Roy Clark was a master with the guitar ,he could out play ANY ,other guitarist that ever walked .
Check out his version of Malaguena.... best clip is from the Odd Couple.. a TV comedy from the 60's-70's. Roy Clark was a MASTER of every instrument with a string... guitar was his primary, but violin, mandolin, banjo succumbed to his mastery.....
The thing is he is a master player of string instruments, I've seen him live before in around 1983 here on campus in my hometown. He's just incredible and he used to be on that show Hee-Haw a lot when I was a kid. He didn't really show any of that off here at all. He was just having fun but yeah that guy is mind-blowingly good. And the reason he could mess around like that so much is because everybody was already super familiar with the song, because it was a massively huge hit for Johnny Cash around that time. Johnny Cash did actually two entire live albums at different prisons, Folsom Prison and San Quentin.
He perfected his craft so great, he would crack jokes because he was confident in his playing.
Roy Clark one of the greatest guitarist with a sense of humor
Love Roy!! I watched HeeHaw every Saturday night before the Sonny and Cher show!
It takes decades and decades of practice to play the guitar while doing comedy at the same time while also playing the notes in a manner thats not the traditional way(back of hand, leg, mic stand etc etc) and doing so flawlessly without effort.
He did a special appearance on a TV show back in the 1970s and he demonstrated his skills to the audience. I don't recall the name of the show but if you truly want to see how good he was without it being comedic search for ROY CLARK GUITAR WIZARD and you will find the video I am referring to.
Legendary Roy Linwood Clark 04/15/1933 ~ 11/15/2018
One of the GOAT on the guitar with a side-o-silly! This is a Johnny Cash tune...check it out.
Roy was a funny man. If you want hear him true shine, do reaction to Magdalena.
Roy wasn't a comedian per se. But, he did like injecting some comedy in his performances. All of his peers knew how good of a player, of all stringed instruments, he was. He just never felt the need to seek out the spotlight. With his show, Hee Haw, he really enjoyed finding child prodigies and let them preform on the show. He really was an amazing person. Not that you should do a bunch of videos on him, but at least do yourself a favor by searching more videos of him. The last two generations have the conception that making loud, distorted sounds come out of a guitar, is what makes a good player. The reality is that Roy, in his quiet little way, knew his way around the strings better than anyone else.
Roy was a virtuoso entertainer; and he was even better on the guitar…
It is wonderful to see younger viewers appreciate Mr. Clark. He was a performer with outstanding technical skill and stage presence coupled with a good dollop of humor. He will be long remembered.
Roy Clark is a legend with the guitar, banjo, and fiddle!!! RIP legend
As a kid, I watched Hee Haw. Roy Clark is an awesome 🎸 player that is unrated
Check out Jeff Beck for unique playing 🎸
Should check out Roy on the video called Guitar Wizard. For more great guitar Tommy Emmanuel playing Classical Gas.
Roy is easily in the top 5 greatest guitarists who ever lived.
Fantastic reaction great artist just good smile music 1 for your list Gary Moore ( the Messiah will come again) live Montreux 1990 many thanks love and respect from the UK 👍👍👍👍👍👍🌟😀😀 amazing channel 👍
Roy Clark was everything, singer, musician (could expertly play any stringed instrument), actor, comedian and all around musical genius.
He was above and beyond talented. You should hear him play "Malaguena"
She already reacted to that
The label you are looking for is Showman. Roy Clark was a well rounded entertainer and a master of any stringed instrument.
Hee haw host on for decades. A very good song to react yesterday when I was young
He was known for joking around, but it's no joke that he was an absolute master musician of the highest order. This guy could play more than one instrument with the very best of them.
Luther is Luther Perkins; he played guitar with Johnny Cash. Roy Clark is doing his comedic take on Johnny Cash and Luther Perkins performing their Folsom Prison Blues hit.
I was a kid when I first saw him on "Hee Haw" Before you look for the show, check out "Gloom Despair And Agony On Me"
Roy Clark is a LEGEND of country music ..
I got to watch him do that all these years
One of the most under-rated guitar player there was
Roy was incredibly talented as a musician...and a comedian! His friends said he could play anything with strings, and that certainly included banjo. His career was devoted to country music and down-home cornball country humor, and his combination of talents made Roy a natural host for the TV show "Hee-Haw." Check out Roy and Buck Trent's "dueling banjos" on this segment of Hee-Haw: th-cam.com/video/47NPOkNqANQ/w-d-xo.html (video quality's not the best, but audio is fine) Roy's best guitar performance (my opinion) was the flamenco style "Malaguena" -- th-cam.com/video/Pz2hXI7Ny9I/w-d-xo.html
-----------------
Hee-Haw ran for 25 seasons and had a following that extended far beyond its original country music audience. For someone familiar with entertainment productions, you'll enjoy reading how the show was produced. From WikiPedia: "At the height of its popularity, an entire season's worth of shows were taped in two separate week-long sessions, with individual shows then assembled in the editing room. Only musical performances were taped with a live audience, while a laugh track was added to all other segments."
He is easily one of the top 10 players of all time of any era... He is a master.
Roy could play anything with strings. One of the absolute best on a guitar. Must listens are his Malagueña and Yesterday, When I Was Young. RIP Roy.
Gotta listen to Roy’s “Thank God and Greyhound She’s Gone”.
BrittReacts your my favorite Reaction
Luther was Luther Perkins, a musician of some note in the early 60s, when this was recorded.
roy clark was a musician/comedian that was a costar on a long running tv country themed comedy variety show in the 1970s call hee-haw
Tnx, Guy's a genius, not really a country fan but Dolly, Leanne.... tnx
I’m back to see another Great Reaction 👍🙏👣
more more more please
Johnny cash song Roy Clark was on one of the longest country comedy shows. The she he haw
Great comentary to you young lady..
He is one of the Greatest Musicians that ever lived!!!!! He could do more by Accident than most could on purpose! It came so Easy that he could clown around and make it look like it is just clowning around!! But one song you have to watch him play is Malaguena!!! I don't know of anyone else that could play with as much talent as he does!! Guaranteed to take your Breath Away!!!!! He is one of those people that never got the fame that he deserved! Plus he played a number of instruments including the Banjo, and he was a Virtuoso on all of them. For years he played on the syndicated show Hee Haw!
Roy Clark was a virtuoso, but made it look easy and fun. Love Roy. No pedals, effects, etc. Pure guitar!
It is a spin on a Johnny Cash song - Folsom Prison. Roy was on a comedy show called Hee Haw for about 20 years. It is said that he can play any instrument with a string on it. HIs parents owned a music shop so everyday he would play something different. He is extremely talented.
He knows every stringed instrument. He did also act. Hee Haw! TV show
Folsom Prison Blues was originally sung by the late great Johnny Cash and in his original band Luther Perkins was his lead guitarist. Unfortunately Luther was mildly addicted to amphetamines, I think I heard he was a alcoholic too but don't quote me on that, and died quite young aged only 40 in 1968. According to Wikipedia about his death: "During the early morning hours of August 3, 1968, Perkins returned from fishing on Old Hickory Lake to his newly constructed home on Riverwood Drive, Hendersonville, Tennessee. He allegedly went to sleep in the living room while holding a lit cigarette, even though he hadn’t smoked in years by this time, according to family. His niece, by marriage, awoke around 6:00 am to find the living room aflame and Perkins collapsed near the door, almost dead. An emergency crew rushed Perkins to Vanderbilt University Hospital, where he was kept under intensive care until he died two days later.[15]
He is buried near the graves of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash at Hendersonville Memorial Park in Hendersonville, Tennessee.[16]
Luther Perkins was inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, as inductee #0230.[17]"
Thank God and Greyhound you're Gone is one of his more popular Songs...
This man never got the credit he deserved and still doesnt for his skill and mastery of the guitar. Or the banjo for that matter. He was top five, at least, in my book, all time, on the guitar.
Roy Clark stared on that long running country variety show " Hee Haw " !
