A lot of other countries price gouge tourists, my mom noticed the same thing in Peru. Fortunately my mom worked for a travel agency and knew about these things from co-workers and her own travels. Don't be afraid to haggle with them if there isn't a set price tag on the item. One thing I will say though, I like that European countries include the tax on the price tag they put on their items. Makes me wish we did it here, then it'll be easier to tell who's charging more for the same things. lol
Tourism is a horrible industry. You'll get this where ever you go. My first REAL trip was to India by myself when I was 18. I was there for half a year just fending for myself. By the end of that trip I become immune to being scammed. I would get angry and yell at people by the end of the trip. I'm super glad I went, and I DO think I will go back. But it definitely isn't for the faint of heart. You just want to get know people. Half the people you start conversations with are just trying to take advantage of you. I got to the point where once I realized the person wasn't being genuine I would just tell them to fuck off and walk away. It just sucks that you literally have to be aware and on guard of the fact that half the people you encounter are trying to manipulate you. It makes it harder to be open to the people who aren't. I ended up being pretty jaded by the end of that trip. Glad I did it when I was 18 so I didn't have to waste time figuring that out.
As an Egyptian person I want to say that it's one of the worst countries ever, especially in terms of women rights, this country was once a great place when it had its own culture, but not anymore, definitely not after the Arab invasion in the 7th century, but at least you can still visit the beautiful historical sites. I have seen and heard a lot of terrible things here.
Argentina and Portugal are the two at the top of our list for possible retirement. We've done a good deal of reading into retirement benefits/taxes in Portugal. It's Argentina that concerns me the most as it relates to "the Paris syndrome", especially considering current events. If you have any knowledge of either country, what might be the thing that bursts my bubble with expat expectations?
I was wondering if you have ever been to South Africa , or ever considered going.🇿🇦 Mainly to ask your opinion on how you view the country, we are often accused of not being "African" enough and that got me wondering 1. is Structural and economical Development bad for Cultural presevation? 2. Do other African countries base their Africanness based on the propaganda ads that were shown to the westerners?(Prototype of a starving kid)

I watched a Rogan video with the dude from best food reviews. He described almost the same exact treatment
yeah, I don’t think you want to go to Paris right now either …… it’s a lil “ crowded”
I would go back. The ancient side is truly spectacular. The modern side of Egypt is a basket case.

Not as bad as in Egypt.

I’ve heard similar things from others.

Only reason to visit Egypt are the museums.
Oh yeah, the tombs are just not worth it I guess 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Or, you could, you know, adhere to a country's rules and regulations?
Don't like them? Then don't visit. Problem solved.
I 100% do, these items were on the list of things not to bring. I’m sure they are now
You actually can being cameras did you do your own research 🤷 some people are just unluck sometimes and will bully you
True and we can still talk about how backwards and stupid the rules are sometimes, too.
Seems like a spy
