    Saving for a D4S or D5 right now, but I’m hesitant to buy another DSLR,. I could probably spring for a Z9 in a year or so after the initial demand goes down. My D850 with grip and 70-200mm is my go to setup for most field sports right now.

      @JackBeasleyMedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I cut it out of this video, but I said at one point that I’d buy a Z9 if I could swing the $7000 it’s going to cost!

    Hi Jack. Love your channel! Here's a tip: For race and marathon photography, I use a 5 gallon bucket with a padded seat lid. You can keep non camera stuff in it for a long day (water bottle, snacks, towel, sunscreen, gloves, rain gear, etc). It keeps your stuff dry and you don't have to carry an extra bag AND a stool. I usually just have my Think Tank backpack and my bucket!

    I have the same equipment as you and looking for a bag that will fit my 400mm 70-200 D5 and D850 (with grip) in any recommendations? I am fed up with carrying the 400mm around in a separate bag. Might also need to put the TC and the 24-70 in there on occasions as well.

      Yes, I have the same struggle. There are bigger bags and cases, but they’re double in size which is a problem in itself.

    Hey Jack - Have you tried the new Nikkor Z 400mm f/4.5 VR S? I got it recently and was shocked the moment I first held it. It's so light (even lighter than the 70-200mm f/2.8) that I initially thought Nikon forgot to put glass in it 😂 Images are insanely sharp, AF is lightning quick & dead quiet, and it's easily hand-holdable. Might be my new favorite lens.

      @@MarkReese I haven’t. I did get the new Z 400/2.8 and it’s lighter than my F-mount 120-300/2.8, even though it’s bigger.

    I used to do mix of Press / events but action sports so yes, Nikon family here. I always carry a set of flash for fill. I used 20-30 yo Manfrotto / Bogen used gear handed down and it last. not the lightest but it's just a side gig. I wanna try the collapse seat. You gotta have multi kit bags. I carry my macro kit for my personal hobby but use the use the close up flash kit for art or forensics work as well. I still shoot w/ the 90's f2.8D Pro zoom kit & a prime or 2. I wan add the 200-500 as well.

    Is the D850 a good sports camera? I’m starting to shoot soccer and my main camera is Z6 ii and my second camera is D850. I was considering selling my D850 for the D500 which I was gonna pair with me sigma 120-300 2.8. Do you think I’m better off keeping the D850? Thanks

    • @JackBeasleyMedia
      @JackBeasleyMedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The D850 is Ok as a sports camera. Having said that, I don’t know what you’d gain with the D500. If you’re looking for the “reach” of a DX, just put the D850 in crop mode and you’ll still get 25mp RAWs.

    I just viewed your video. Great stuff. I have a question about your stadium chair. Most of the venues around here forbid metal leg stadium chairs on their floors as most are old wooden floor. What kind of legs does this chair have? Thanks.

    • @JackBeasleyMedia
      @JackBeasleyMedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There’s rubber padding on the bottom. The metal frame doesn’t touch the floor.

    + spare batteries and a new 55 gallon trash bag rolled up (for compactness). Use the bag under my roller case if the ground is wet with morning dew or to put my case inside if it starts to rain. During away games we eat on the team bus during the return trip so then it becomes a trash bag. During winter a small backpack with gloves, stocking cap, rain gear, long johns, etc.

    • @JackBeasleyMedia
      @JackBeasleyMedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Luckily, here in Phoenix, it doesn't get that cold or wet! I usually don't even take the rain gear with me. And, a hoody or light jacket may be all you need in the winter.

    Hi Jack from the UK, great videos btw. One item I find useful at football matches etc is a quick release header for the mono pod,
    allows you to change cameras quickly during the action.

    Nice. You hit the nail on the head. I picked up on a couple things I can add. Thx. The 400 is still my dream. I have to settle with my 300.
    I really can use the 70-200 for end zone stuff but hate lugging it around. I see your area has been getting hammered by lightning....hope you are shooting some of that. Take care

    HI Jack. so I'm learning a lot with your videos. I still feel like a beginner but I have been shooting in manual so I know how to use a lot of my camera settings but your videos are so helpful with so many other things that I hadn't touched on. What SD card can you recommend for soccer ? Also, do you have a site you can recommend for used lenses? Thanks Jack!

    • @JackBeasleyMedia
      @JackBeasleyMedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kathleen, glad I could help. For SD cards, I use those labeled "pro" or "professional", but really, you just need a card that will write as fast as your camera can send the information to it. That may be a pain to figure out, so if you go with "pro" cards, you can't go wrong. For used lenses, I've had success with B&H, MPB, and usedphotopro.com.

    I have found the 200mm-500mm is a great multi-purpose lens. I tried a bib once but I found the athletes I cover were playing up to the camera too much. I like being inconspicuous. :-) I like more of the natural reactions. Thanks for the video.

    • @JackBeasleyMedia
      @JackBeasleyMedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I only use the bib for certain occasions, when I actually want participants to know what I'm about - like at a 5k where I want people to actually emote for the camera. Another example is when I'm trying to sell photos and I want player/parents to know who I am.

      Fortunately, it doesn't rain that often here. I do have a rain coat I wear that has a hood and I use those ThinkTank rain covers for the camera and lens.

    I am hoping to get on with Maxpreps next spring after I build my Basketball and baseball portfolio. My current gear is Canon R6 with battery grip, Canon RP, RF 24-70 2.8, RF 70-200 2.8, and RF 100-500 4.5-7.1 all of that gear plus extra batteries and filters fit into the Pelican 1510 with trekpak divider system.
    I need to buy a long 2.8 before next football season. My budget is ~$6500, So should I get a new 300mm 2.8 or find a used 400mm 2.8? What would you recommend for HS Football?

    • @JackBeasleyMedia
      @JackBeasleyMedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 3002/8 is fine to start - I'd even buy used and save some money. You can get some great pics with one. But eventually, you'll wish you had a 400 to cover more of the field.

    Great video and I’m glad I found your channel. I’m down in Gilbert and recently started doing some GYSA soccer games over here. I’d like to go do some football games (Mountain Pointe, DV, etc) but I’m not sure how to get down on the field. 400mm lenses seem to be “the lens” for football and outdoor sports, but they’re not cheep… and I kinda don’t want to get the f/4.0 version of that focal length (‘it’s still super expensive). I’m also looking at Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 with the thought being, “it’s not a 400 but it’s f/2.8…”. I’d love to hear your suggestions!! Thanks!!

    • @JackBeasleyMedia
      @JackBeasleyMedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! So, if you want to shoot high school football, you’re going to need f2.8. 300mm is perfectly acceptable, you’ll just have to wait until they get a little closer - and it’s definitely better than something maxing out at 200mm. I’ve heard good things about the more recent version of the Sigma 120-300 (focuses faster than the old one) so I would think that would be a good field sports lens.
