It’s so nice to hear Slovakia mentioned on tech channel. Cheers mate, from Bratislava. Great job on this repair. We had lot of similar style pedals made mainly in 90s floating around here, since tubes were so cheap it was better to build tube drive that Tubescreamer or something like that. They go bad and same as here, no schematics, since all of them are one offs.

Nice fix description here :) Do you know (recall) the capacitor of the first stage please ? as its value is not mentioned on your schematic, it is parallel with the 1K resistor, Cheers !

I love this channel. I don't understand about 90% of it but I still love it

It's like watching the Bob Ross of amp repair.

Happy wife = happy life. Try firing up and testing an old 100% electromechanical pinball machine while the wife is trying to sleep. The next ding ding ding you hear will be from a big heavy glass ashtray bouncing off your head, and no one in the house even smokes! Where did she get that thing? And when?

I love my Matchless Lightning amp but I am not looking forward to changing the filter caps when the time comes!

Awesome video. It's nice to see you work on some pedals as well. Refreshing! Do you work on any stereo power amps, like McIntosh amps? That's be sweet to see. Again thank you for sharing this!

I've worked on a few McIntoshes and such but they are relatively few and far between.

Are there shields on those tubes when it leaves the factory? Even with shields in place, I'd expect hum fields being radiated into the tubes, with the transformer and power supply only two inches away.

Yes, unless the filament supply can float at a higher DC voltage with no reference to ground, the tolerable DC differential between cathode and filament will be exceeded and cause flash-over and hence H-K short.

Well no bleeder on the power supply I take it . How the heater voltage to cathode on the Russian current production ? Given how high the voltage is on cathode follower the heater may need to be elevated .

From an only-a-guitarist perspective, you’ve piqued my interest in your craft; which trade school would you recommend to acquire it? Great presentation. Thanks👍🏼

      Thanks!
I have no idea. I've never had an electronics class in my life. I learned by doing, but it's probably not a very good way for most.
I'm sure someone will post good suggestions for you.

You've mentioned issues with the colour bands due to colour blindness a few times. I struggle even without being colour blind. Some colours seem to be bad for it, yellow vs white is terrible, blue and purple too. Occasionally even red vs brown or even black can blend in with out good light.

I read the color bands just fine but I still double check with a voltmeter ...

I like matchless products. I'm a big fan of Colin James and he plays one. My buddy has a bad cat and it sounds great on his recordings. And I've never seen this pedal before....but I'm intrigued... put it that way

Hmm, I remember seeing Colin James playing slide on a Bruce Cockburn performance on TV (title song from the "Laugh of Love" album). He also played slide on a John Hiatt tribute record, on "The River Knows Your Name" if I remember correctly.

Hello, I take the opportunity of this Matchless session to ask a question: I have a Matchless Vibrobox from around 1995, it works great but with some Deluxe clone it makes a snoring noise when the vibro is on , if you see what I mean, with my Vintage 47 , it is just perfect , any idea ? I don’t understand everything you say, but I love your channel! Happy New Year , Bernard ( from France)

      Merci Bernard.
Your English is much better than my French.
Je nes sais pas pourquois it would "snore" through one amp but not another, and I don't know the Vibrobox circuit, though I looked at the schematic. If the Vibrobox output has leaking DC that could be the cause. Perhaps the Vintage 47 has a DC-blocking cap on its input. Many old Gibsons do but Deluxes do not (after the 5C version at least).

When I hear "DOA Matchless whatever Box" I usually assume that the POS transfer died. Not the case here.

Looks like there could be an easier way to lay the components out, no?

I worked on a Hot Box a few years back. Bad power transformer.
