  • Want to paddle faster or more efficient? In this series, we pull back the curtain on how our paddlers learn different techniques. Our coaches are happy to share this information to help grow the sport here in the US and around the world. GHCKRT coaching staff spends time reviewing videos of the paddlers so that they can learn from each other and we get to tag along!
We are excited you are interested in joining the Gig Harbor Canoe & Kayak Racing Team!
There are many ways you can start or continue your paddling journey with us. Our youth program is divided into several teams to accommodate different ages and skill levels. Each team has its own practice schedule and coaching staff dedicated to instilling both great technique and great sportsmanship in all athletes. Love watching the kids, but want to get out on the water too? Our Masters program is a great way to learn how to, and become competitive in sprint canoe or kayak as an adult!

it is more than essential to do these workouts, these will make those kids great paddlers. we do at least one or two sessions like these per week and it works really well. Also short 10-15 second sprints with equal short breaks do the trick, other sessions are mostly intervals 4min/2min/1min dependind on the part of season. Keep on the good work :)

the guy in the black C-1, his top arm is flopping all over the place, needs to be more ridged, he is loosing a lot of power on his catch. One of my fav workouts was 2 x 2500 at 70% effort followed by 10x60 seconds on 60 seconds off at 90%. You have such a nice open training area. We had a 16 mile Creek where we could hardly get 4 boats across. How is the wash from everyone, must get a little chaotic in the middle of the pack.

Thanks for the comment. The chop in the harbor can get pretty bad (especially in the wind) but we are super grateful for the open flat water most of the time.
