    I prefer the second version of each shot. the final grade looks way too contrasted and saturated in my humble opinion

      Jesse Compton i agree. Unfortunately oversaturation is a really popular gimmick to give otherwise bland footage a good dose of artsy hipster feel.

      @therealDannyVasquez 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Looking at it from a layperson perspective, you can really see in these examples how the shots really come alive in the final grade. The ones on the beach with the drift wood, up close was like holy shit!!
      +Thomas Snaaijer Yeah, but Hipsters don't do it properly like the pros do.

    Have you guys done a tutorial on color grading?

  • @secondsun765
    @secondsun765 ปีที่แล้ว

    That white-ish/noise grey color as the first "before" shot, isn't actually how it looks out of a camera. It's added to give an extra effect of how clean and colorful it ends up being.
    No need to add that, you can see just fine how much a difference it makes to color grade footage, adding that noise in the beginning just gives it a feeling of fakeness.

  • @MrGamerChoi
    @MrGamerChoi 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    how many stop over? I have a6300 and every time I shot proper expose, the final footage's shadow has so many noises...even on 800iso

    • @sreten1984
      @sreten1984 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MrGamerChoi that proper exposure made that noise in shadows. U have to exp.1-2 stops over to get max of DR(dinamic range) and than you shouldn't have that noise.

    • @salarycat
      @salarycat 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @Marco-dr5ho

    • @eugene_shatt

    • @venturefilmworks9493

    can i achieve that log look on dslr using cinestyle ?

    •  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      don't do it, you'll lose too much tonality and get insane banding.. cinestyle is not worth it, trust me, i learned that the hard way

    • @aykas
      @aykas 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Luděk Dvořáček so? any ways to get flat on my canon dslr ?

    •  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      use the neutral profile, bring the contrast all the way down and saturation to -2. that's as "flat" as I'd go with canon DSLR's. of course depending on your camera you could install magic lantern and try recording raw, which is a totally different story

    • @aykas
      @aykas 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Luděk Dvořáček oh, its better to shot on prolost setting ?. ive magic lantern installed but i know how to activated it, but i didnt know how to setting it, and how to edit it on post pro -_-

    What is the first version? Its really white and pale. Is that the actual footage? And if so, what is the second version?
    The third version is obviously nicely color corrected.

    • @schokoladeneis1993
      @schokoladeneis1993 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      first one ist the color/contrast flat s-log footage out of the camera or recorder. Second one is the color correction to get the footage to look somewhat like the condition at the shoot. And the last one is the grading to give the video a artistic look or a special mood.

    • @Gudwell
      @Gudwell 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow. That must take a lot of time to just turn the s-log footage into something that even comes close to real colors. haha

    • @schokoladeneis1993
      @schokoladeneis1993 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      well you have to increase saturation, contrast and sharpness until it looks natural. A lot of times filmmakers decide not to shoot with a picture profile/ codec this flat because it takes time to correct and grade and it's not always needed.

  • @itorapadas

    Why would a professional videographer shoot such grayish unclear raw footages in the first place? Was it color graded to make the "before" clips look in worst state?

    • @AdamKnappdoesthings
      @AdamKnappdoesthings 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s just what raw footage looks like - you’re not adjusting anything that gets captured except the shutter speed, ISO, and aperture - no white balance, contrast, saturation, etc…
      You may save some basic LUT data that helps it look better on the monitor screen. Most pro footage comes out looking like this before it’s been corrected.
