The point is that many people think 250ws VS 500ws means it's twice as powerful, meaning that it will output twice as much as it relates to the full spectrum of the light range. Light does not work that way as it relates to labels and watt seconds. This is not my opinion, this is a matter of fact. We are just speaking about two different things.

I am a commercial shooter and my needs are very specific (as you said), so 1 stop (0.8 as I mentioned previously) does make a difference. I've rented the B10 on several recent shoots and love it but found myself at power level 10 where I can't move it closer without change the quality of light. So yeah, I'm very interested in this B10 Plus.
It’s theoretically 1 stop. The problem is the watts(energy) is not being converted 100% into light output. The important thing is light OUTPUT not wattage.
I have the b10x plus and i can use the flash for a whole dat without replacing the battery.. When i’m shooting mostly outside than i have a backup battery just in case i need it. I only had to use the backup once during a very sunny day at the end of the day. Important to note is that you switch the battery you use with the backup battery every time you’ve used it. This way you’ll keep the batteries in good condition. Also i have to say i do use it sometimes at full power and sometimes even wish k had more power.. 1 stop is actually a significant difference.
major thing I'd also like to add that is missing from your video. HSS USERS: the profoto lights while used in HSS (freeze) mode Have a DRASTIC falloff of power. so for anyone using HSS in bright conditions, the extra power will be 100% useful (this is from hands on experience with b1x and b10 plus on location in daylight, there are many times im shooting at a full 10 ESPECIALLY if im using any soft light modifiers) while you are right about being able to bring the light closer, this is often not an option for wide scenes such as location used as backdrop (the entire reason a majority of people buy these lights is for location work) another tidbit is flash duration. the b1x, b10, and b10 plus all have varying flash duration between the range. so if you're buying these specifically for this, its not so black and white. and these differences vary in regular / speed mode. in regular mode: the b10 has a T1 flash duration of 1/400 at full power 10 (250 Ws) the b10 plus at the same power level 9 (250 Ws) has a slightly faster T1 at 1/500 In freeze mode: b10; full power 10 (250Ws) T1 time of 1/400 b10 plus; power 9 (250 Ws) T1 time is 1/1200 !!! thats a very drastic difference, if you are intending on freezing motion in darker situations (IE sports, product photography, action) then the b10 Plus is a CLEAR advantage over the regular b10 if you follow this all the way through the range, youll find that the b10 Plus has shorter duration's than the b10 all the way down to the last 2 stops where they essentially level out in the 8 Ws and lower range.
Essentially, I think this video has a little too much of your personal bias in it, which i understand as it is titled as such. but i think there is a lot of mis-information in this and also its not so black and white as you say.
for anyone who needs sources, I am a b1x owner who recently made the switch to the b10 plus line. Id also like to add that the b10 / plus line is a somewhat 'cheaper' feeling product materials wise. the design quality is there, but the outer plastic shell is very thin and flimsy in comparison to the b1x. this is a side effect of trying to make these lights as light as possible. easily half the weight of a b1x.
Yeah, your correct. HSS will always cut your power by a ton. This is the case with all the lighting systems out there. So, like always, just depends on the situation and demand. Sometimes its great, and sometimes its not.
Hi everybody, there is one big different between B10 and B10Plus...it is recycling time....B10 full power 250Ws(10) is about more 2s B10Plus like 250ws (9) is about 1s...so the same power but much faster recycling time...somebody needed somebody not 😉
This is one of the reasons I get a more powerful light when it makes sense. I’ll use it below it’s maximum power and will get faster recycle and better battery life
I got the B10 duo kit and absolutely love it. I was originally anticipating this release because I did want the B1X or whatever this new product was going to be for one main reason and that is using larger modifiers easier. I have used my B10's in studio with 4'x6' soft boxes and 5' octaboxes and it works just fine, it's just a pain to adjust since the lights are so small. The B1X has a better knob and a handle making it convenient for movement. The new B10 plus uses the same knob and no additional handle. I wish they made a modular/removable handle or something. I would still like something for ease of use with larger modifiers but for now, the B10's DO work! Thanks for all your tips on here, seeing your results overpowering the sun was the reason I knew I'd be happy with them on location, and I'm in Oregon not Florida so you you have much more sun than us haha
One stop more power is twice the light...not sure why you are trying to deny it :) In practical use, of course, one can usually get around the slightly lower output. People have tested the B10 to be only about half a stop weaker than the B1, possibly because of the different shape/reflectivity of the front element. Given that the B10 plus is rated at 500W and the B1O is 250W and they now have the same front element, you should see the new light providing twice as much light. Whether that is necessary for you given the greater size and weight of the new unit is for each prospective buyer to decide.
Tests have shown the B10 Plus set to power level 9 (250 watts) will have a battery life of 505 shots vs 450 for the B10 set to power level 10 (250 watts). The addition shaft length providers greater flexibility for modifier adjustments and the extra stop of light provide compelling reasons to consider the B10 Plus vs B10 even at the added cost.
The battery life difference in real world use at the same output is about identical, this I have now done in person and seen it. Having now used the b10 run and gun in Paris on the streets and with lots of other travel, I can say the size makes a big difference with assistants holding the light and moving around the city. Packing them up in a bag and keeping a small footprint is also super important. So it really does all depend. A lot of people looking at this light are just local guys and gals who want the extra stop because they are afraid it won't be powerful enough. For me and other pros who understand how to get the most from any light this is less of a concern and the smaller size and weight are more important. At no point has the b10 not been able to overpower the sun in any situation I have been in, and this includes 5 days with models in the middle of the desert. Lol. It truly is a hard choice when you don't have a specific application for use. For me, travel, run and gun, and able to just go anywhere.. The b10 is best.
@@travisharrisphotography hey Travis, the thing is that the comparisons I have seen so far for Godox products suggests their lights offer better output, better colour accuracy, more comprehensive specs, just as reliable and all for a lot less money. I use Godox LED panels for video. CRI 96%. I use the AD600BM, I don't need TTL, and it's a great light. Totally reliable with crazy battery life. There must be a reason Profoto charges such an extraordinary price. Oh, the other thing is that the Godox OFC range of gear is much broader and all works off the same trigger system.

I think your explanation of the 2x the power and battery power and all of that could have been much better, but your main points about the new light not offering enough benefits to justify its larger size was right on point and this video actually swayed my opinion of this light. I was considering this light, but now I'm leaning back towards the B10.
If you already have the B10 and it does the job for you, there is no need to buy the B10 Plus. This is not because the B10 plus is bad, you need to compare it to B1X to see the merits of the plus. The B10 plus will be a very capable and logical option for those that need the extra stop of light and the reduced size from the B1X. Yes, I wish the battery life was better, but 200 flashes is enough for the majority of people and an extra battery does not weigh that much.
B1x will not be discontinued because of B10 plus. The B1X recycles way faster and is more of a workhorse light than the B10 Plus. Your sources are wrong

Travis Harris Photography What modifiers are you using? I had some trouble with the quality of the OCF line. Rods shot through the end of the soft box, some rods bent and one the tip actually fell off. I sent them back and I’m now shooting with deep umbrellas but it’s just not the same
@@WashDCWill Yeah, I have seen people talk about this issue with the OCF line. I am still on my first OCF beauty dish. Like you I have bent one rod.. but, it still works okay. So far nothing has broken completely. I would just contact profoto service.. they should just send you all new replacements. Make a video with your cell phone, call them, get their email and send it to them. They will take care of you. TBH, in the past I have used Elinchom Rotolux boxes for 7 years.. and even with them (more costly than Profoto OCF too) I had a lot of tears that would happen to the silver linings inside.. so, its not perfect in that camp either :-(
Hi! Thanks for the comment. No. Frankly, I don't think anything profoto is good for a first time buyer. I would roll with godox or a cheaper brand to start. Learn, and then when your knee deep in money from your photography I would buy into a more costly system, and at that point you will know exactly what is best based on your own needs, style, and experience.

Profoto needs to come out with a more robust battery for this for it to be worth the added expense ...but then (because it uses the same mount as the B10) why wouldn't one just stick that battery on a B10?
I agree with the first part but don't understand the 2nd. Why use "but then" and "why wouldn't..." Profoto made an expanded power battery for the A1X that is compatible with the A1, it's not something they'd be opposed to people doing.
I have 2 B1 lightsfor my studio.. and a B10 for when I'm traveling. I probably won't buy this as if I need something more powerful, I'll just use my B1. But I'm confused how you are saying that the light output is not double.. as the Profoto press release explains that the B10 is equal to 5 speed lights and the B10 Plus is equal to 10 speed lights. So how did you come to the conclusion that it is only 1 stop of light more?
1 stop of light means doubling the amount of light falling on the sensor. So doubling 5 speed lights gives 10 speed lights. Or going from power 10 on a B10 Plus to power 9 gives you a "normal" B10.
Might I ask which Nano Pole version are you using? Is that a regular version, or its Carbon variant? For something like B10, would Nanopole Plus be a better fit?
Controlling the lights via the app is convenient and it's done with great ease but it's my understanding that there is a 3 light limit in the app? Profoto needs to address that limitation IMO.

Thanks Anthony! Yeah, go for the B10's. Save the money, and you will not regret it. If you really, truly needed that extra stop.. you would know it from some type of specific work that you do. My general rule is.. if you have to really think about it.. you dont need it. May want it.. but, need it.. nah. The B10 will not let you down!
Do you think a B10 would be sufficient for larger subjects, like horses, or sometimes 2 or 3 horses with a human or two? Might it make more sense for me to get the B10 Plus, or perhaps something even more powerful? I've got an Orlit Rovelight RT610, and I often use it to photograph people with their horses. But it's embarrassed me on a number of occasions. The remote isn't reliable at long distances (so using my 120-300mm is risky), and on a recent shoot the remote went out altogether! New batteries wouldn't wake it. I almost went ahead and splurged on a B10 (before the Plus was announced), but hesitated not just because of the pocketbook hit, but for worry that it might not have enough oomph for the larger subjects I often deal with, plus the fact that I need to back the light up a bit to cover the larger subjects, as well as stay out of the way of the camera when using a telephoto.
Hi David. If I were you, in this situation I would consider a more powerful light. Perhaps a godox 600ws light or even more. The proboto b10 plus has now been said to not even be a full stop more powerful, so I don't think this is a good option either. My old elinchrom Ranger pack would have been perfect for you. 1100ws.lol.

Hmm, my RT610 is 600 watts... maybe I should just hold on to that for the big stuff (especially since I went ahead and go a new remote to replace the one that died), then consider a B10 250w when the prices go down for the 75% of my work that it would probably work great for, with more convenience.

Looks good on my screen. But, honestly.. Does it matter? Lol. Frankly, I'd rather make videos with my cell phone and upload cause it's easier and it not the quality I'm going for with a video.. It's the information that matters. If you think it's too bright, then when you shoot your videos make it a little darker. 😜
The A1X has a more powerful battery fully compatible with the A1. I expect we'll see Profoto release a larger capacity B10 battery in a few months......for $350!

Thinking it's some insane difference, when in the real world it's only one stop of light. The only thing that interests me about the B10+ is that it would be a great light for my parabolic reflectors. Right now I'm using the B1 and B1X but when working with parabolics the lighter the better. On the same note, a Ferrari would be a great car and interest me as well but I'm not going to run out and buy one.
Keep in mind that the b10 and b10+ have the same element. So the spread of light will be the same so the b10 being a pound lighter still maybe your best bet. However the spread pattern of the b1x is much wider and best for a para.
Thanks for the video! I’m still on the fence. As a commercial photographer with a studio and Cyc wall, my needs are different then most and I currently have two first gen B1’s, a b10 and an A1. When I need more lights I borrow my studio mates old Alien bees :/ I would love two new profoto strobes but at this point might need to wait it out to see what they drop next. The b10 plus just seems like a half step forward with a few drawbacks. Kind of like the b2, (sorry for anyone who got those) the b10 plus feels like it should be replaced by something way better soon.
Thanks Homer. Yeah, if I had a studio and did shoots all the time, I honestly would just get a used system and some older lights. The B series now is all about run and gun type work, and with the marketing Profoto is doing.. they are trying to allure in all the new kids to the game. I would think twice. Frankly, I would look at Godox. I maybe doing the same soon. I am getting tired of the "Profoto Hype".
profoto has always had the worst battery life in any brand of light.. Im sure its intentional to sell more batteries, they put battery cells that are 2-3 generations old into their products. I have in fact been able to more than double the number of flashes of a b1 simply by replacing the cells inside the battery with newer more powerful, and at a fraction of the cost of an extra battery, and then do not have to carry that much wight.. profoto is good, but they dont use the newest technology available for batteries. Not even close.. Why make a new lighter version of a flash, if you then force people to carry the extra weight in batteries?.. that makes no sense. nice try tho. Now go back to the drawing board and prove that you actually are the best.
For good or bad, this is true, indeed. Cutting costs and increased profits are behind IMO and not something else. Replacing the cells inside the B2 batteries is easy, but how have managed to open the battery packs for B1?

Steve Vuoso when the b1x came out Profoto claim it’s not replacing the b1. Now b1 is in discontinued sections of their website. Don’t trust them! Now I’m waiting for b1x to be discontinued and grab some of the new batteries for my older b1. :D
@@Mainwong THIS is exactly correct. People need to first use logic, and think about marketing. Trust me.. the B1X's days are numbered. Once stock on hand counts deplete.. this is a goner.
It's a B10 that goes up to 11, and (as expected) halves your mileage. That's all that needs to be said. The kicker is there is no other improvement. Sizeable price difference, same recycle times, uses the same battery as it’s smaller brother. I just don’t think this product makes any sense. Profoto seems to be releasing new lights all over the place and not thinking about how their lineup works as a family, nor a steady evolution that gives buyers value into the future. The completely illogical nomenclature says it all: The Pro 10 / B10, which are completely different products; as are the B1 / B2 / B3 / B4. So actually let’s slap an ‘X’ on the B1, and then a ‘Plus’ on the B10 ? IMO The B10 Plus sits without purpose between the B10 and B1X. It lacks the B1X’s durable build and stamina, and it offers just one, negligible feature over it’s nimble little brother.

Love your videos, but let’s be clear I had to pause the video. You said this “won’t be twice as powerful as the b10”. But then you say it’s 1 stop more powerful. I am a professional photographer, can you elaborate on your wording as to not confuse people? 1 stop brighter is twice the light. Now I personally know the B10 is not 1 full stop darker than my B1 so I don’t know what’s going on there. I wonder what the B10 plus will actually be? Edit: Ok just watched the rest of your video, sounds like what you meant by overall power was the unit as a package including battery output. In any event, I agree with most of your points regarding shooting scenarios... however in certain scenarios, when shooting architecture and large interior spaces with views in mid day light I rely on the B1 full power often. Also when shooting larger groups of people outdoors like at a wedding. When lighting an entire wedding party and family of 20-30+ people backlit by the sun in nice areas near the beach ect I use 2x B1 and modify them so I don’t get people shadowing people. I can only get the modifiers so close at 24mm and that’s at f10 iso 100 Xspeed. I don’t want to give up power in those tough situations.
Keep in mind the b10 is only about 1/3 of stop behind the b1. This is because of the front element and upgraded reflector. In many cases you won't see any real world difference in power side by side. I did this comparison with the b1x and was amazed. That said, you know best. Hey, if you need it you need it. You sound like someone who knows what they need. But, just wanted to speak up as you may not have tried them both side by side as I have yet.
I have the Cononmark (Venture n the US), 600WS, 1.9kg with battery, 500 full flashes, does the job. Great portable light. power level in F stops! but it's not profoto :)
This is such a waste of time. The reason you are "not buying it" is because you already a version of it. Done. If you didn't own the B10, would you buy the B10+? Of course you would. An extra stop of power on an a under powered light is always a welcome addition.
Since shooting this.. I have used the B10 plus lights on workshops that I have hosted here in Miami. They are nice! But, all of the points I made are very true. I really was not wrong at all. Hey, if that extra stop of power is what you NEED.. then yes.. get them! If not, and you can make due without.. the smaller footprint of the B10's is really special and comes in handy in more situations, packs smaller etc.. truly something to think about.
The two light kit is $4095 and the B10 duo kit is around $3K right now. So.. I was speaking about the two light kit, as this is what I own and most people would be interested in. This also makes perfect sense because the B1X was the same price, and this is the replacement.
@@mavfan1 Yes, we will see the B10 around $3K / 3100 in a few months.. the delta will settle close to $1K. Still, $720 is a big deal and is only one factor. Truth is, if they were the same price I still would get the smaller light :-)

while you are right about being able to bring the light closer, this is often not an option for wide scenes such as location used as backdrop (the entire reason a majority of people buy these lights is for location work)
another tidbit is flash duration. the b1x, b10, and b10 plus all have varying flash duration between the range. so if you're buying these specifically for this, its not so black and white. and these differences vary in regular / speed mode.
in regular mode:
the b10 has a T1 flash duration of 1/400 at full power 10 (250 Ws)
the b10 plus at the same power level 9 (250 Ws) has a slightly faster T1 at 1/500
In freeze mode:
b10; full power 10 (250Ws) T1 time of 1/400
b10 plus; power 9 (250 Ws) T1 time is 1/1200 !!!
thats a very drastic difference, if you are intending on freezing motion in darker situations (IE sports, product photography, action)
then the b10 Plus is a CLEAR advantage over the regular b10
if you follow this all the way through the range, youll find that the b10 Plus has shorter duration's than the b10 all the way down to the last 2 stops where they essentially level out in the 8 Ws and lower range.
Essentially, I think this video has a little too much of your personal bias in it, which i understand as it is titled as such. but i think there is a lot of mis-information in this and also its not so black and white as you say.
for anyone who needs sources, I am a b1x owner who recently made the switch to the b10 plus line.
Id also like to add that the b10 / plus line is a somewhat 'cheaper' feeling product materials wise. the design quality is there, but the outer plastic shell is very thin and flimsy in comparison to the b1x. this is a side effect of trying to make these lights as light as possible. easily half the weight of a b1x.

Yeah, your correct. HSS will always cut your power by a ton. This is the case with all the lighting systems out there. So, like always, just depends on the situation and demand. Sometimes its great, and sometimes its not.

Hi everybody, there is one big different between B10 and B10Plus...it is recycling time....B10 full power 250Ws(10) is about more 2s B10Plus like 250ws (9) is about 1s...so the same power but much faster recycling time...somebody needed somebody not 😉
This is one of the reasons I get a more powerful light when it makes sense. I’ll use it below it’s maximum power and will get faster recycle and better battery life
I got the B10 duo kit and absolutely love it. I was originally anticipating this release because I did want the B1X or whatever this new product was going to be for one main reason and that is using larger modifiers easier. I have used my B10's in studio with 4'x6' soft boxes and 5' octaboxes and it works just fine, it's just a pain to adjust since the lights are so small. The B1X has a better knob and a handle making it convenient for movement. The new B10 plus uses the same knob and no additional handle. I wish they made a modular/removable handle or something.
I would still like something for ease of use with larger modifiers but for now, the B10's DO work! Thanks for all your tips on here, seeing your results overpowering the sun was the reason I knew I'd be happy with them on location, and I'm in Oregon not Florida so you you have much more sun than us haha

One stop more power is twice the light...not sure why you are trying to deny it :) In practical use, of course, one can usually get around the slightly lower output. People have tested the B10 to be only about half a stop weaker than the B1, possibly because of the different shape/reflectivity of the front element. Given that the B10 plus is rated at 500W and the B1O is 250W and they now have the same front element, you should see the new light providing twice as much light. Whether that is necessary for you given the greater size and weight of the new unit is for each prospective buyer to decide.

Tests have shown the B10 Plus set to power level 9 (250 watts) will have a battery life of 505 shots vs 450 for the B10 set to power level 10 (250 watts). The addition shaft length providers greater flexibility for modifier adjustments and the extra stop of light provide compelling reasons to consider the B10 Plus vs B10 even at the added cost.
The battery life difference in real world use at the same output is about identical, this I have now done in person and seen it. Having now used the b10 run and gun in Paris on the streets and with lots of other travel, I can say the size makes a big difference with assistants holding the light and moving around the city. Packing them up in a bag and keeping a small footprint is also super important. So it really does all depend. A lot of people looking at this light are just local guys and gals who want the extra stop because they are afraid it won't be powerful enough. For me and other pros who understand how to get the most from any light this is less of a concern and the smaller size and weight are more important. At no point has the b10 not been able to overpower the sun in any situation I have been in, and this includes 5 days with models in the middle of the desert. Lol. It truly is a hard choice when you don't have a specific application for use. For me, travel, run and gun, and able to just go anywhere.. The b10 is best.

I use Godox LED panels for video. CRI 96%.
I use the AD600BM, I don't need TTL, and it's a great light. Totally reliable with crazy battery life.
There must be a reason Profoto charges such an extraordinary price.
Oh, the other thing is that the Godox OFC range of gear is much broader and all works off the same trigger system.

I think your explanation of the 2x the power and battery power and all of that could have been much better, but your main points about the new light not offering enough benefits to justify its larger size was right on point and this video actually swayed my opinion of this light. If you already have the B10 and it does the job for you, there is no need to buy the B10 Plus. This is not because the B10 plus is bad, you need to compare it to B1X to see the merits of the plus. The B10 plus will be a very capable and logical option for those that need the extra stop of light and the reduced size from the B1X. Yes, I wish the battery life was better, but 200 flashes is enough for the majority of people and an extra battery does not weigh that much.
Are the B10’s fully synchronized with B10Plus? In other words, Can I mix them up for the same shoot and have full functionality within the system?
Yes. In terms of using the air remote, you will be able to trigger both lights using the same remote. That's not a problem.

Travis Harris Photography What modifiers are you using? I had some trouble with the quality of the OCF line. Rods shot through the end of the soft box, some rods bent and one the tip actually fell off. I sent them back and I’m now shooting with deep umbrellas but it’s just not the same
@@WashDCWill Yeah, I have seen people talk about this issue with the OCF line. I am still on my first OCF beauty dish. Like you I have bent one rod.. but, it still works okay. So far nothing has broken completely. I would just contact profoto service.. they should just send you all new replacements. Make a video with your cell phone, call them, get their email and send it to them. They will take care of you. TBH, in the past I have used Elinchom Rotolux boxes for 7 years.. and even with them (more costly than Profoto OCF too) I had a lot of tears that would happen to the silver linings inside.. so, its not perfect in that camp either :-(

Hi! Thanks for the comment. No. Frankly, I don't think anything profoto is good for a first time buyer. I would roll with godox or a cheaper brand to start. Learn, and then when your knee deep in money from your photography I would buy into a more costly system, and at that point you will know exactly what is best based on your own needs, style, and experience.

I agree with the first part but don't understand the 2nd. Why use "but then" and "why wouldn't..." Profoto made an expanded power battery for the A1X that is compatible with the A1, it's not something they'd be opposed to people doing.

1 stop of light means doubling the amount of light falling on the sensor. So doubling 5 speed lights gives 10 speed lights. Or going from power 10 on a B10 Plus to power 9 gives you a "normal" B10.
Might I ask which Nano Pole version are you using? Is that a regular version, or its Carbon variant? For something like B10, would Nanopole Plus be a better fit?

Do you think a B10 would be sufficient for larger subjects, like horses, or sometimes 2 or 3 horses with a human or two? Might it make more sense for me to get the B10 Plus, or perhaps something even more powerful?
I've got an Orlit Rovelight RT610, and I often use it to photograph people with their horses. But it's embarrassed me on a number of occasions. The remote isn't reliable at long distances (so using my 120-300mm is risky), and on a recent shoot the remote went out altogether! New batteries wouldn't wake it. I almost went ahead and splurged on a B10 (before the Plus was announced), but hesitated not just because of the pocketbook hit, but for worry that it might not have enough oomph for the larger subjects I often deal with, plus the fact that I need to back the light up a bit to cover the larger subjects, as well as stay out of the way of the camera when using a telephoto.
Hi David. If I were you, in this situation I would consider a more powerful light. Perhaps a godox 600ws light or even more. The proboto b10 plus has now been said to not even be a full stop more powerful, so I don't think this is a good option either. My old elinchrom Ranger pack would have been perfect for you. 1100ws.lol.

Thinking it's some insane difference, when in the real world it's only one stop of light. Very nice. In the USA its a little different.
The only thing that interests me about the B10+ is that it would be a great light for my parabolic reflectors. Right now I'm using the B1 and B1X but when working with parabolics the lighter the better.
On the same note, a Ferrari would be a great car and interest me as well but I'm not going to run out and buy one.
Keep in mind that the b10 and b10+ have the same element. So the spread of light will be the same so the b10 being a pound lighter still maybe your best bet. However the spread pattern of the b1x is much wider and best for a para.
and here I am still using my B1's lol

Thanks for the video! I’m still on the fence. As a commercial photographer with a studio and Cyc wall, my needs are different then most and I currently have two first gen B1’s, a b10 and an A1. When I need more lights I borrow my studio mates old Alien bees :/
I would love two new profoto strobes but at this point might need to wait it out to see what they drop next. The b10 plus just seems like a half step forward with a few drawbacks. Kind of like the b2, (sorry for anyone who got those) the b10 plus feels like it should be replaced by something way better soon.

The B series now is all about run and gun type work, and with the marketing Profoto is doing.. they are trying to allure in all the new kids to the game. I would think twice. Frankly, I would look at Godox. I maybe doing the same soon. I am getting tired of the "Profoto Hype".
profoto has always had the worst battery life in any brand of light.. Im sure its intentional to sell more batteries, they put battery cells that are 2-3 generations old into their products. I have in fact been able to more than double the number of flashes of a b1 simply by replacing the cells inside the battery with newer more powerful, and at a fraction of the cost of an extra battery, and then do not have to carry that much wight.. profoto is good, but they dont use the newest technology available for batteries. Not even close..
Why make a new lighter version of a flash, if you then force people to carry the extra weight in batteries?.. that makes no sense. nice try tho.
Now go back to the drawing board and prove that you actually are the best.

Replacing the cells inside the B2 batteries is easy, but how have managed to open the battery packs for B1?

This light is not replacing the B1X according to Profoto.
Steve Vuoso when the b1x came out Profoto claim it’s not replacing the b1. Now b1 is in discontinued sections of their website. Don’t trust them! Now I’m waiting for b1x to be discontinued and grab some of the new batteries for my older b1. :D

It's a B10 that goes up to 11, and (as expected) halves your mileage. That's all that needs to be said.
The kicker is there is no other improvement. Sizeable price difference, same recycle times, uses the same battery as it’s smaller brother. I just don’t think this product makes any sense.
Profoto seems to be releasing new lights all over the place and not thinking about how their lineup works as a family, nor a steady evolution that gives buyers value into the future.
The completely illogical nomenclature says it all: The Pro 10 / B10, which are completely different products; as are the B1 / B2 / B3 / B4. So actually let’s slap an ‘X’ on the B1, and then a ‘Plus’ on the B10 ?
IMO The B10 Plus sits without purpose between the B10 and B1X. It lacks the B1X’s durable build and stamina, and it offers just one, negligible feature over it’s nimble little brother.

Love your videos, but let’s be clear I had to pause the video. You said this “won’t be twice as powerful as the b10”. But then you say it’s 1 stop more powerful. I am a professional photographer, can you elaborate on your wording as to not confuse people? 1 stop brighter is twice the light.
Now I personally know the B10 is not 1 full stop darker than my B1 so I don’t know what’s going on there. I wonder what the B10 plus will actually be?

Ok just watched the rest of your video, sounds like what you meant by overall power was the unit as a package including battery output.
In any event, I agree with most of your points regarding shooting scenarios... however in certain scenarios, when shooting architecture and large interior spaces with views in mid day light I rely on the B1 full power often.
Also when shooting larger groups of people outdoors like at a wedding. When lighting an entire wedding party and family of 20-30+ people backlit by the sun in nice areas near the beach ect I use 2x B1 and modify them so I don’t get people shadowing people. I can only get the modifiers so close at 24mm and that’s at f10 iso 100 Xspeed. I don’t want to give up power in those tough situations.
Keep in mind the b10 is only about 1/3 of stop behind the b1. This is because of the front element and upgraded reflector. In many cases you won't see any real world difference in power side by side. I did this comparison with the b1x and was amazed. That said, you know best. Hey, if you need it you need it. You sound like someone who knows what they need. But, just wanted to speak up as you may not have tried them both side by side as I have yet.

This is such a waste of time. The reason you are "not buying it" is because you already a version of it. Done. If you didn't own the B10, would you buy the B10+? Of course you would. An extra stop of power on an a under powered light is always a welcome addition.

Since shooting this.. I have used the B10 plus lights on workshops that I have hosted here in Miami. They are nice! But, all of the points I made are very true. I really was not wrong at all. Hey, if that extra stop of power is what you NEED.. then yes.. get them! If not, and you can make due without.. the smaller footprint of the B10's is really special and comes in handy in more situations, packs smaller etc.. truly something to think about.

LOL you must be kidding. I spent 7 years with that pack! LOL I loved it! But, times changed.. Love the B10 now!
Agree with all points but price is $400 more.
The two light kit is $4095 and the B10 duo kit is around $3K right now. So.. I was speaking about the two light kit, as this is what I own and most people would be interested in. This also makes perfect sense because the B1X was the same price, and this is the replacement.

@@mavfan1 Yes, we will see the B10 around $3K / 3100 in a few months.. the delta will settle close to $1K. Still, $720 is a big deal and is only one factor. Truth is, if they were the same price I still would get the smaller light :-)
