I picked up the RF 28-70 f/ 2.8 a few months ago and I've been very happy with overall performance of the lens. I also opted for the Shimoda Urban Explore 25 Liter last year and I have not been disappointed with the bag. Happy NewYear!
I use Canon since the 90's. Went to Sony because of the system camera (A7 series)... but as soon as Canon put the R5 out, I switched back. Using almost only EF glass (TS-E) at the time, it was a no brainer for me. Loved using the A7RIII though... but there's something about the color science of Canon and the more enjoyable form factor of their latest designs.
I have the Shimoda 20L Urban and also the Explorer 35L v2. Both fantastic bags. I wish I got the 25L Urban as there is just a little more room in that one for the upper pocket. I may end up getting that one eventually as the size is better suited for the work I do.
Re: backpacks. I tried the Shimoda 20L having looked at all the options. When it was delivered I really struggled to get my R6 with a 50mm f1.8 prime out of the side access. Very tight! Also the camera cube doesn’t have a lot of capacity. I moved it on. I’d check it in the flesh before buying.
Awesome video! Saw your vid on my home page and had to click because I am also a Canon user still. I've had it since 2019, and I still love it because I'm a hybrid shooter. I still do think about switching just to have a smaller and more portable setup, but I don't think I will. Not in the near future anyways haha
I can strongly recommend the 50mm 1.4, especially when you consider using ist for both photography and video. The sharpness in combination with the fast autofocuss feels unreal. When it comes to a zoom lens I heard a lot of positiv comments about the 28-70 STM version, being extremly ligth fpr the perfomance u get.
I own the 1.2 and went down the same thought process of downsizing to the 1.4, however, I got the chance to try it out for a few weeks over the holidays and found that I just couldn’t part with the character of the 1.2. I even wrestled with the idea of keeping both, as I liked the 1.4 size and weight so much, and it was razor sharp, but in the end that wasn’t the intention and I ended up returning the 1.4. The 1.4 was also wider by a few mm’s compared to the 1.2, which wasn’t a bad thing, but definitely something you will notice. Lastly, the profile correction on the 1.4 in lightroom was a bit heavy handed, in that it brightened the corners significantly compared to the profile correction on the 1.2. You could adjust it to look like the 1.2, but it takes some work to get it there. Then save it as a default correction. It’s a journey worth taking, but you will find it harder than you think to part with the beloved 1.2. Cheers!
@@laurormrz that's interesting! Thanks for sharing! Other than the profile corrections (or over correction) on the f1.4, what was it particularly that you preferred the f1.2 over it? As in, can you clarify what you mean by character? Just the smoothness of the bokeh, micro contrast, or?
@ I found that the 1.2 just gave me a better image/starting point. The colors on my 1.2 rendered slightly warmer for me and the bokeh is definitely smoother/more dreamy giving you more 3d pop over the 1.4. I also felt like I spent less time editing the 1.2 files to get them to my preferred look, while the 1.4 took a little more work. I’m sure if I didn’t have the 1.2 to compare it to, I would have been 100% happy with the 1.4, and honestly, I may still end up picking it up down the road for it’s size and portability. Wide open, both lenses are fantastically sharp, but the 1.4 is a hair sharper and has more micro-contrast. However, stopping down the 1.2 to 1.4 evens that out. I do a lot of portrait photography, so wide open, an ever so slightly less sharp image isn’t always a bad thing, the 1.2 just can’t be beat in that respect. My final thoughts are the 1.4 will be perfect for street shooters, documentary type photography, landscape, etc… and for video shooters, the 1.4 is built for that.
I traded in my 50 1.2 to go for the 1.4. lighter and easier to balance on a gimbal. I still want to get the 85 1.2, but would strongly reconsider if canon brings out a 85 1.4 VCM version.
Great video, I do like your approach about why you choose the gear you use. The only thing is why does it seem like you needed to justify the reason you prefer Canon over the other brands? Just because every other TH-camr and viewer is pushing other brands onto people like it's the greatest, which they are not, doesn't mean you have to choose it. I get it controversy brings clicks but no camera is perfect and all of them have quirks. One of your reasons for using it is also one of my reasons for choosing Canon. Your videos are always great by the way, you always have a great approach to photography which I like. Keep making awesome videos.
Thanks so much! I guess whichever brand or camera you choose you have reasons for it, I find that interesting to chat about though, especially as I've done other gear videoes in the past I wanted to frame this one slightly differently. Title wise I wasn't sure what to call it though! Thanks again appreciate the comment ✌️
It’s funny, I have both Canon R5 mk2 and Meta glasses. Enjoying them both. My only frustration is with the choice of Canon lenses; like you my goal is high quality and compactness. Honestly if Canon didn’t have those new f/1.4 lenses, I would have gone with Sony or Nikon (the newly released 35mm f/1.4 L is nice although pricey). Hope that Canon releases a smaller L zoom lens in the near future and opens up full frame to third party companies!
The 35 F1.4 is my current favorite lens, its so incredibly small and light, but all the shots got from it were extremely sharp and have beautiful colours. The AF speed is crazy good too.
Thats just crazy…how in early 2025 people already feel the „need“ tu justify canon… (i dont mean it judgemental) it just points to Canons approach to its RF system despite many, many strengths to be unpopular compared to Sony (technology and weight advantages) and Nikon (Caught up, crazy good glass and some unique lenses and features like good internal raw)… probably 90% of this trend could come down to canons lens politics i guess…
More just trying to break down some of the strange opinions I hear floating around 🙃 hope it shows that it really doesn't matter what you use, long as it suits you. And always enjoy chatting gear 😅 I do find it funny though. I don't even see obvious technology or weight advantages when comparing similar models. Like the R5 vs A7R. Lens choice is the only obvious one.
@ oh yeah, ive used all brands extensively (not exactly proud of that…) so i would agree with that assessment. Currently on Nikon and very happy, was Sony and canon before. Liked both, but Sony def. had a bit of a weight/size advantage overall and the customisation was perfect. Canon felt very similar, had nicer colours tho, af was identical. Nikon delivers the best image i have ever seen (z8 and z6lll) and strikes a balance between superb colour matrix (very close to fuji in raw files) and technological prowess. I would dare say, that nikons af is technically the best ive used to date, but its glass cant always keep up like Sony or Canon can (its 2.8 Zooms are on Sony Level, but the high end primes are a bit slower then GM glass…) i dont however much prefer Nikons overall Colour output over Sony, Canon wouldve also been superb, if the glass was more flexible… my absolute dream camera would surely be a GFX (the rendition and colour pipeline is very nice), but Fujis AF woes prohibit a serious purchase…Nikon is currently the only system doing „everything right“ for me… if theyd bring out a z73 or so, maybe matching that 60mp sony sensor with Nikons colours and the small size of the z6lll id probably be forever nikon… as it stands the z8 is imo the perfect camera, but just that tiny bit too big and heavy to bring everywhere…
@@mbismbismb yeah, there truly is a distinct difference between the brands with good colour (Nikon, Fuji, Canon) and the brand that are very digital and neutral (and often unpleasant) like Sony or Panasonic

But maybe consider if you saw the word "bye fuji" in the thumbnail, still decided to click on it and then also felt the need to comment you are a part of this problem you are complaining about 😂 really only helping it show up to others.
I teach photography and I was borrowing a friend cannon while I was doing a lesson with him and I'm a Fuji user and I took about 25 photos with them and I helped him edit it. I compare them to my Fuji files and it's chalk and cheese. I will take Fuji colours any day of the week.... Canon cameras are also but ugly as well. They don't make me want to pick it up. Where is a Fuji camera? I wanna pick up. I wanna have fun with it and for me. A camera should be fun and yes I see professionally. I'm sure from a working perspective, Canon has better autofocus better frames for a second and all of that blah but at the end of the day the Fuji is a better paintbrush and that's how I see my tools

I already ordered it for my R8. It will be unavoidable if it comes under 1000usd.
I think I'll have to try it!
They are great bags, I wish I had opted for the 25L as well though! And happy new year ✌️
Hey Tim! I love your POV videos, I hope they still continue, but of course if you don’t enjoy them anymore , I totally understand.
Aww thanks so much! I still hope to make a few, perhaps talking about the shots a bit more than a regular POV, but we will see 😊

Another great one TK - totally agreed lightweight is the name of the game!
Thanks matey! Always as lightweight but as practical as possible 👌
I really wish they would open up the system to 3rd parties lens makers. Fuji I sold off. We did not gel. .

Wonder how the new f1.4 performs compared to the magical f1.2
