Frances McDorman, Josh Brolin and Clooney in a coen brothers movie again? Can't think of one soul who wouldn't wanna watch this, looks just fucking great, as expected.
+Mr. Tulip WELL, if it wasn't a Coen's movie I probably wouldn't be very interested in this based on the trailer to be honest. But the Coen's basically shit gold so I am interested. The trailer, however, is more confusing and shows the artsy stuff out of context so it looks more like nonsense.
+one2gaming well the Coen brothers have a way of making excellent films without any typical cohesive plot structure. it's always gonna look weird at a first glance.
Kelley McTaggart Well I've never seen a film of there's where I thought it was mostly nonsense or difficult to convey meaning. But I have seen scenes before I saw a movie where I was like "what the fuck was that bullshit, lol." But the entire movies are really next level story boards brought to life in such a charming, intellectual and lightly humorous manner.
Yeah. I'm not bashing them at all, I just think they have a very unique writing style. I remember thinking "what the fuck was that" at the end of the big Lebowski and lewyn Davis. Loved the films, but their very different and I often just find myself Really coming to appreciate them after the fact.
This trailer made the movie seem better and better as it went on. Coen brothers Historical epic movie in a movie George "Bumbling" Clooney Fat Jonah Hill I'm 100% sold on this film.
Just saw this. Perfectly cast. A jumble of elements that all fall into place principally through Brolin's character - he's really the center in terms of understanding the big theme here, which is one I get perfectly. You feel overworked, stressed, unsure from the constant demands of your job - roping in people, problems, crazy challenges, idiocies, betrayals, endless details... You want to quit and find a door opens to an easy and lucrative opportunity, but... you know you'll never quit because you love the crazy - in this case Hollywood film making. Josh Brolin plays this perfectly. George Clooney is a brainless actor - also brilliantly done. Everyone else has modest parts but they all add up: the suits, the director (Fiennes) the religious folk, the communists, the cowboy, singers, dancers, bit part players, gossip columnists - all of them. The film they are making, about "The Christ" suggests that insult to the Person or the event will occur, but it never does, and isn't meant to. It nearly becomes saintly at the end (that faith scene here is the last one), but the Coen brothers' unique wit steps in before it gets either too noble or too mocking. It's a well put together movie and I'll see it again. Oh, see it on big screen while you can, by the way - there's a lot in the scenery you don't want to miss.
Absolutely loved this movie from start to finish. Trailer is misleading, though; it's not about George Clooney's character. It's about a day in the life of the movie executive Eddie Mannix with a bunch of sub plots and characters that branch out from that. Very creative and funny film, but maybe not for everyone judging by some comments here. Don't watch it expecting a slapstick period comedy.
I... don't understand. How is it not obvious from the trailer that Eddie Mannix is the main role? I'm really trying to understand how this trailer is misleading but I genuinely don't get it.
It never fails. I read about a Coen brothers film that is in the works, and I wonder "How can a movie about that possibly be any good?" Then I see the trailer (or the film) and I suddenly understand. The Coens are genius filmmakers. They start with the ordinary and create the extraordinary.
+Njal Thorgeirsson I didn't think so because usually Wes Anderson has a select number of actors that he usually collaborates with (i.e. Billy Murray, Owen Wilson, etc.) and none of them were in the trailer, so I didn't think that.
This movie is SO underrated. Aside from the great story-telling and film structure that you'd expect from a CoenBros film, its parody of old movies and old Hollywood is so spot on that it's sure to delight fans of the era -- you will catch a dozen allusions in every scene. Oh, and it's also hilarious. Highly recommend.
@@Evielox Hey, sorry for the delayed reply. It's not confusing at all, actually. I mean, geeze, there's even a voice-over narration. I probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone who wasn't vaguely familiar with the politics of that era, or who wasn't interested in the films of that time, because that's a big source of the humor. If you are a fan, you'll definitely enjoy the amazing costume and set design. It's also a beautifully shot film. I guess that's about it.
+Nobody Lurker indicator? indicated of intelligence... erm.... just joking, your hilarious, im laughing at you as i type, it is truly awesome sauce oooooommmmm
I love this movie. People who complain about its plot would probably prefer the usual story about a spotless hero who defeats the villain. There were many memorable scenes I rewatched more than once on youtube. In my opinion, this movie is almost as good as the Big Lebowski.
To me, it felt a lot like a Wes Anderson film. You aren't supposed to watch it for the plot. If anything, the central ransom plot is minor and inconsequential and there are several characters who have nothing to do with the plot that get loads of screen time. In lieu of plot, the movie focuses dialogue, style, aesthetic and romantic depiction of another way of life. It isn't funny but it isn't trying to be. It was sort of like a Big Lebowski, in that the entire movie is a mess of characters and places, but minus the hilarity and plus more mid-century optimism. I enjoyed it.
This movie is worth watching just for the idealized 1950's images. Kind of like how watching Turturo's character at teh Bowling Alley in the Big Lebowski is better than gowing to a real bowling alley. Too many movies are the oposite these days: depressing music, depressing colors, lots of people crying, shakey handheld cameras that make you seasick (why would you want to escape to a world like that). I'll have to watch it again to figure out why Lockheed Martin wanted to hire that guy to do nothing. None of the characters are as good as Michael Lerner's Hollywood executive character in Barton Fink (another Coen Bros movie). The scene where the overstuffed briefcase containing ransom money is lost in the sea bc of a yappy dog is reminiscent of the scene in Kubrick's "The Killing" where the overstuffed briefcase full of money is lost because of a yappy dog.
I would agree with films such as Bottle Rocket, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Darjeeling Limited, and the Life Aquatic. The rest of his films, not so much...

I love her since she is one of those actors who acts herself, if you know what I mean.🤔 … Her Black Widow film is my most anticipated film right now. It has been that these last 5 years!!!🕷
I have a feeling that they are supposed to go back in history and kidnap the real Caesar, but screwed up and ended up with the actor that plays Caesar.
Franz Ferdinand Yep. She was also Gabriel in the mo ie Constantine and she was in Snowpiercer with Chris Evans(Captain America). IMO she's o e of the best character actors, right up there with Gary Oldman.
Clever, subtle, fresh and amazingly satirical, this movie was a gem in the shitstorm of january and february. Coen brothers do not disappoint and again it is another jab at life , rich, regimes and all other everyday topics. Performances are phenomenal, especially Clooney who plays Baird Whitlock , somehow a movie studio tool without brain of its own. Screenplay is wonderful , you could nominate production design, make up and costumes for oscars if you want, and in the end while it is not meant to be taken seriously people could really pickup again subtle message this movie sends. Go see it . 4/5
I personally don't see why there are people who hate this movie. They say the story is too simple that goes nowhere and there's too much plot filler. How the hell is that different from any other Coens Brother movie? "The Big Lebowski"has tons of plot filler that adds nothing to the plot, and "No Country For Old Men" just ends on a confusing note. The biggest difference I guess is that those movies had compelling characters and still had a some form of resolution. 'The Dude abides' somehow became a cult religion. Here, the characters are too simple, but the performances are fun. George Clooney is playing an pompous, air-headed actor; who better for that role than him? There resolution may not be much and definitely not enough to leave an impact, but does that really make it a bad film? No, it's a just standard Coen stuff. If you're just looking for a small story with fun visuals, I recommend it.
Maybe it is that style over substance syndrome but it was executed well here, so i also don't get the hate. Maybe people complain because they have to use their brains here and there.
+YETICOPTER Fargo was a comedy and yet it was nomitated in seven categories. And won best screenplay and best actress as well. And this film has one hell of a casting and it seems to be a pretty cool screenplay too.
I can't understand why people dislike this film so vehemently, although obviously if you have no idea who Louella Parsons, Esther Williams, McCarthy are, you may not get it
Aww shit. SCARLETT JOHANNSSEN is class!!! The music in this is super catchy. Just found that first song on Spotify. Called Go 'Head by Rocstrong. Awesome!!!!
legoninja32, I agree with that I expected something more twisted in the kidnapping plot. That could have been great as a choice for the film. In a way, Communism won in the future that we live in now, sort off Socialism is close enough.
I was really hoping a good film would come out in the next few months, and the Coens never disappointed. Looking forward to Alden Ehrenreich's performance, this guy could break out after this movie.
watched this movie. it was hillarioussss. those who confused i guess dont know how film industry works. prolly will download it and watch again when its available online
The film was crazy boring, but there's just something about it that endears me so much. The style, the colours, the cinematography... it's all so charming. And the characters are extremely lovable.
+Krispy Kreme Ceja I saw it and I loved it! I'm a big movie fanatic (especially the Golden Age) and this movie was for a niche audience and I was part of it!!
written fantastically and the actors were perfect, Josh Brolin brought his A game. to the people who disliked it, I suggest you forget about the trailer, wait a few months and rent it on redbox and re watch it. gurantee you'll enjoy it. it's no Big Lebowski that's for sure but it was a good flick
+Elven King who cares George Clooney is very good actor and handsome, i had a chance to meet him in NY he surprised us we hangout together and we got some pics sh.st/blswU he is so polite and very kind person, i was so happyyy
It appears the critics only watched the trailer and based the ratings on it. I just rented it because of the trailer and - nothing for me there but disappointment. It will take at least four viewings of No Country For Old Men to get over it.
+Caleb Donovan The Grand Budapest Hotel came out in February and voters remembered it. But yeah, not exactly routine for a film released in the early part of the year to be remembered enough for Oscar attention nearly a year later.
Incredibly underrated Coen Bros film. I can’t help but watch this trailer after watching Oppenheimer. Alden Ehrenreich showed up and I thought of Hail Cesar thinking this was a star making performance. I hope he gets another shot
Profoundly subtle. Why is babysitting movie stars more important than making bigger nuclear bombs? Only one has access to the hearts and minds of Americans.

So much YES
Am I the only Fan of Scarlett Johansson here ?? Shit I Love Her
+BuffTube Me too Me too Me too, Hell Yeah
Me too!! She is my favorite actress along with Gwyneth Paltrow
+BuffTube Scarlett Johansson is only one of the hottest actresses in the world right now, so yeah I guess you're the only one who likes her.. /sarcasm
I love her since she is one of those actors who acts herself, if you know what I mean.🤔 … Her Black Widow film is my most anticipated film right now. It has been that these last 5 years!!!🕷
I just might go see this. The trailer was way more fun than I expected.
Thanks for showing me the whole movie in two minutes
Inject this movie directly into my veins.
Coen brothers? Okay, I'm listening... Clancy Brown? SOLD!
Someones calling from The Future. GOOD LORD. Haha, that was good.
I don't often look forward to seeing a movie. I can hardly wait for this!
A part of me wishes this movie were so much longer
I have a feeling that they are supposed to go back in history and kidnap the real Caesar, but screwed up and ended up with the actor that plays Caesar.
Hmm that's a great theory
+DeusJGer Except Clooney is dressed as a Roman General
Which Caesar? If they went back in time and brought Nero or Caligula, we'd be in deep shit
I'll see it just for Tilda Swinton.
+Louis Bourbon isn't she the White Witch in the Narnia movies? Anyway I like all the actors here which I've seen in plenty of other films.
+Louis Bourbon isn't she the White Witch in the Narnia movies? Anyway I like all the actors here which I've seen in plenty of other films.
Franz Ferdinand Yep. She was also Gabriel in the mo ie Constantine and she was in Snowpiercer with Chris Evans(Captain America). IMO she's o e of the best character actors, right up there with Gary Oldman.
Damn right!
+Louis Bourbon me too tbh
This is going to be George Cloony's best performance ever, I can already see it.
The song : Jamie N Commons - Rumble And Sway
February? Why? They could have decided to participate in this year's award season with this.
+Quan Pham Yeah, weird time to release it.Maybe it`s not as good as it looks in the trailer.
+Quan Pham It's a comedy, no room for that alongside all the super serious, period drama, social commentary oscar bait that's coming out.
+YETICOPTER Birdman was a comedy and yet it won best picture.
+YETICOPTER Fargo was a comedy and yet it was nomitated in seven categories. And won best screenplay and best actress as well. And this film has one hell of a casting and it seems to be a pretty cool screenplay too.
+Ramsés Mojica Birdman wasn't a comedy. I laughed more in No country for old men.
"The most Coen Bros. film that the Coen Bros. have ever... Coened?" --- Jay Bauman
I can't understand why people dislike this film so vehemently, although obviously if you have no idea who Louella Parsons, Esther Williams, McCarthy are, you may not get it
Looks amazing, the Coen brothers are a powerhouse
Watch it back to back with Trumbo. Makes Hail, Caesar! even more hilarious.
In every Coen brothers movies there is almost always a brief case full of money
Aww shit. SCARLETT JOHANNSSEN is class!!! The music in this is super catchy. Just found that first song on Spotify. Called Go 'Head by Rocstrong. Awesome!!!!
This is going to be as good as No Country For Old Men!!!!!
Funny how The Coen didn't even want to see Brolin audition for No Country for Old Men and now he's in all their movies
George Clooney got kidnapped by "The Future", it's so clear now!
The future is Tomorrowland!
MY EYES!!! THEY MUST HAVE BEEN DEAF!!
+legoninja32 Or the rapper?
legoninja32, I agree with that I expected something more twisted in the kidnapping plot. That could have been great as a choice for the film. In a way, Communism won in the future that we live in now, sort off Socialism is close enough.
+legoninja32 My guess is that it's the british who in the Future take all of the american acting jobs. lol
Lol
I was really hoping a good film would come out in the next few months, and the Coens never disappointed. Looking forward to Alden Ehrenreich's performance, this guy could break out after this movie.
And what a performance it was. But then… what happened?
Just noticed Roger Deakins for cinematography
This movie's gotta be awesome
Love the Coen Brothers movies! Such as No Country for Old Men and Fargo! I never got around to seeing this. But I want to see it, now!
watched this movie. it was hillarioussss. those who confused i guess dont know how film industry works. prolly will download it and watch again when its available online
The film was crazy boring, but there's just something about it that endears me so much. The style, the colours, the cinematography... it's all so charming. And the characters are extremely lovable.
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!
Gimme gimme gimme!!
Sadly this movie was a disappointment. Still go watch it, but watch it with low expectations. Sadly.
+Krispy Kreme Ceja yep thought it was better
+Krispy Kreme Ceja I saw it and I loved it! I'm a big movie fanatic (especially the Golden Age) and this movie was for a niche audience and I was part of it!!
+Deebo Molina i loved it too! i guess i was part of the niche audience as well
What is the name of the song at the beginning?
A clueless George clooney character in a coen brothers film? I'm sold!
written fantastically and the actors were perfect, Josh Brolin brought his A game. to the people who disliked it, I suggest you forget about the trailer, wait a few months and rent it on redbox and re watch it. gurantee you'll enjoy it. it's no Big Lebowski that's for sure but it was a good flick
maan, George Clooney got old....
+capoeiraike To the future!
+Elven King he doesn't look that old though..?
+Elven King Dude, he IS old.
+Elven King who cares George Clooney is very good actor and handsome, i had a chance to meet him in NY he surprised us we hangout together and we got some pics sh.st/blswU he is so polite and very kind person, i was so happyyy
+Elven King
What, were you going to ask him out on a date?
All these negative comments are about the movie and nobody knows why it has 85% on Rotten Tomatoes
OK, I liked the movie but I still don't understand why it has 85%.
Really. Why?
Because 85% of the critics gave it a positive rating. Thats why.
Were those critics on something?
They were high on IQ.
It appears the critics only watched the trailer and based the ratings on it. I just rented it because of the trailer and - nothing for me there but disappointment. It will take at least four viewings of No Country For Old Men to get over it.
Does this even qualify as an Oscar contender? February's cutting it WAY too fucking close.
+Caleb Donovan Of course. The Coen brothers will simply travel from the Future to promote the film. SImple!
+Caleb Donovan The Grand Budapest Hotel came out in February and voters remembered it. But yeah, not exactly routine for a film released in the early part of the year to be remembered enough for Oscar attention nearly a year later.
BlueFox94 Yeah, Grand Budapest was my favourite movie of 2014. Good odds for the Coens!
I really hope it doesn't suck. February is an awful month for films and I'll need at least one good film to keep me from going insane.
+Caleb Donovan It will probably be nominated for some Oscars in 2017.
This is the first trailer in a long time that doesn't give up much of the key story or plot
A movie about capitalism inside a movie about Jesus inside a movie about a kidnapping. Or something like that… I love the Cohen Brothers!!!!
"20 million readers want the truth!"
"Truth...? Yes...! Hmm...."
Nice, i will watch it :D
Congrats 3 likes after 4 years 👏👏👏
Goddamit I wanted a real hollywood historical epic by these guys not a parody!!!
It's a parody of Hollywood. You want a hollywood (psuedo)historical epic, play L.A. Noire
paradisecityX0 LA noire is film noir not epic lol
Dizzy Blu No but it's pretty epic :p
paradisecityX0 errr, my reply would be based upon whether thats you in your dp
Dizzy Blu Yep
Shit, man...Baird Whitlock kidnapped himself.
new shit has come to light
Incredibly underrated Coen Bros film. I can’t help but watch this trailer after watching Oppenheimer. Alden Ehrenreich showed up and I thought of Hail Cesar thinking this was a star making performance. I hope he gets another shot
Profoundly subtle. Why is babysitting movie stars more important than making bigger nuclear bombs? Only one has access to the hearts and minds of Americans.
The last scene is the best. Very natural and comedic, actually.
