You're analogy of the G21 is exactly online with Postings from other you tubers. Primarily noise heat and vibration. Thank you for the excellent and honest review.
FYI: those additional mounting screws are weighed differently to allow you to tune the vibration out depending on what pad size (5” vs 6”), and types of pads you’re using. The machine comes with a total of 3 weights, one is already installed in the machine, and the additional two are shown in the video.
Awesome review! I'm glad I watched this before purchasing one. Do you think the new G15 suffers from the same issues? What would you recommend instead in the same price range?
Great video man! I agree with you my friend. Got my G21 the other day.. shot a video on it as well. Was very excited. Was disappointed. Got tons of vibration with my microfiber pads, tried all 3 bolts with different pads. Sti the same. Tons of heat generated after just a few test spots. VERY powerful machine.. no stalling issues. Didn't like that they didn't put the double shot rubber underneath the head. That's where my finger rests. There is a screw hole that's sharp edges arw very uncomfortable. Overall, not happy. It's going back to Griots. Not gonna work for me. Enjoyed this video 👍🏻👍🏻 take care!!!
thanks for sharing i think in this new lineup the G9 and G8 are the true winners I love my original G15 and G21 I have worked on so many cars with them and love them dearly
@@autofanaticcars agree. Absolutely love the G9 and the G8 is my Favorite.. I hear from a few people they also LOVE there older g15/21 may consider grabbing one!
NICE VID...I JUST WATCHED YOUR VID..ON THE G-9..IVE HAD MY BLAC 18 GR. SPORT CORVETTE ALMOST A YEAR..NEVER USED 1 BE-4..TIRED OF SPENDING AROPX.800-SCOOTS 2 HAVE THE SWIRLS N LIGHT SCRATCHES OUT..SO WHAT DO I GET IN YOUR PROFF. ADVICE..THIS ONE OR THE G-9??
Does your g8 make some screeching noise when under an hour of load during paint corrections. Noise seems to come from brushes when extremely hot. Tool is new fyi.
Nice price you’re selling that unit for. Too bad I don’t need it or I’d pick that up right away, nice opportunity. Thanks for the comparison, I think I’m keeping my old G15 :)
The two additional screws with shims are for weight balancing depending o which pad you are using. Or at least that was what the instructions said. If using the one inch thick pads it says to use the black screw and so on with the other screw and shims. That's just for balancing.
yes I did try those after I shot this video weeks back and I did not notice any reduction in heat or vibration, the machine felt the best with the thicker Opti Pads and Lack Country hex pads
Do you ever run the old G21 with a 5-inch backing plate or only the 6-inch it came with? 17-machines, that is a huge investment and shows you are open to try new products. Well done review of all the GG machines!
@@autofanaticcars Thanks, I received a G21 (older) as a replacement for my G15 this spring during a warranty return (defective rotation). They ran out of G15 and exchanged with the G21 stock they had on hand. Yet to open the box!
Are you going to review the new G15? I'm a newbie to polishing and am going to pick up a G8. Trying to decide whether to pair it with a G9, G15 or trying to find a used Rupes LHR15.
@@autofanaticcars when is that review coming out ? I heard goods and bad things about that polisher , the PX80 is a beast for its size but I’m debating for the 15mm flex cordless so I’ll be waiting for your review 💪
yes I use the Boss Foam Cannon several times per week still, I only use the MTM for my wheel cleaner. I just can not stand filling the MTM they redesigned their bottle and its more awkward for storage now yet they did nothing to address the fill issue with he tiny opening. I absolutely love the Boss cannon I bought extra reservoirs with screw on caps and I can toggle between products and stuff easily.
Ok sir, I am paralyzed by analysis and choice. I have a good made in USA rotary tool, I bought the Bauer, used it 10 minutes, it is going back. The on/off switch is horrible. I am torn between a G9 and the Makita dual action. Honestly I am detailing boats and my vehicle for personal use. I build guitars so I know my way around a buffer, can you help me with me choice paralysis? I could buy a G8 and G9 for the Makita price. Looking for best bag for buck. Tough choices. You make awesome videos
Nice video! I have the G8 and was thinking of getting the G21 next. Should I not? I was told as I get more experienced I can get it but I was told I need the G9 next.
I figured this polisher out to a degree , 1. The backing plate on this machine is a issue quality control has suffered on the plates as of late. Replaced with Rupes backing plate and the gold bolt. The other bolts are for 6” plates. 2. Pad choice vs power and torque , the machine isn’t balanced properly my machine seems to be hitting something inside and you can hear and feel it , Even through all the vibration. And the vibration is what makes the machine feel wild and uncontrolled also stemming from the lack of QC time with the polisher itself so we get a more refined machine. Maybe that’s why it’s $100 or so cheaper . Ok back to the pads and torque , so the machine lays down really good power but it doesn’t like all pads. Some pads skip a lot , wool is almost unbearable once you swap out the backing plate urofiber is better but still not the greatest experience , and it definitely doesn’t like Rupes pads. So the buff and shine pads , the Lake Country foam pads , the Americana Global pads & foam Oberk pads will work. It still a feeling like a forced rotation machine. The compound and polish I got good results on were the Griots cutting microfiber , the Buff and Shine finishing microfiber and the listed foam pads work better than with the stock backing plate. The ride is much smoother but still lots of noise and clanking around at times. So my temp fix for this machine Rules backing plate Foam pads Griots Microfiber pads Don’t push the polisher to five or higher on the speed dial. It skipps bad at those speeds.
Hello ! Is it still possible to find the previous model ? The fact that it is higher, I don't think I would love the balance of it. Thanks for the honest review.
Hey! I've been watching your review videos for a long time now! I know you reviewed tons of stuff, the milwaukee m18 rotary, the g9, now the g21. Have you considered reviewing the Dewalt dcm848?
Auto Fanatic I’ll hold off on making a purchase until then haha, the battery technology in the flex is going to change the game. I appreciate the content you’re putting out! It helps a lot
Is this a case of some is good so more must be better? Seems a shame that in trying to complete the range they've messed up. Maybe they just upped the components a bit too much by trying to keep common core componentry. Maybe they'll have to quickly redesign elements of the 21 if they aren't going to do some brand damage. Plus with 1100w of power going through it thats going to put out a lot of heat..... maybe they should look at more efficient motors rather than stick something that powerful into it
G9 for the warranty for sure and removable cord, the Maxshines are ok i tested them but nothing about the brand that excites me one bit in regards to car culture.
These new boss machines are much cheaper so I’m not surprised to hear they are not as nice. They look cheaper too. This is very sad, I will hold onto my old g15.
Yes they are! I forgot to even mention in this video the price of the new units are $100 less than the original units which in mass manufacturing is a huge price decrease.
Well wont be getting the new design g21. Personally dont like the dial at all, dont like the non rubbery trigger, to hot. You know the ole saying if it aint broke dont fix it. The older style is so much more of a polisher

Gotta see this polisher being used in person at the GoodGuys Heartland Nationals. Really nice product.
No, I returned mine to Griots. The new G21 has great power, but that’s about it.
Wow what a great commentary. As a beginner, I agree the G9 is awesome.

Did you ever have problems with the older design G15/G21? Seems like lower ratings due to reliability issues. Wondering if you ever had issues

The another 2 bolts are for different weight range of the sponge which is mentioned in the manual. Also it is variable trigger while G9 is not
yes I tried them out after I shot the video still runs hot for me and vibration is more than the older version unless I got a bad unit.
Thanks man. The vibration may be due to the opm.
