What a good story. Really like the narrator's tone, nice to understand and follow. Reminds me of various voice actors from the Baldur's Gate games :) Ah... fond memories.

Thanks. I'm glad it brought up fond memories. I spent countless hours playing Baldur's Gate (1 and Shadows of Amn) as a teenager. Great times!

Spoilers Alert: Wayra wanted revenge on General Jorkinton (who wouldn't pardon Wayra from the army and made sure he was hunted for it) and on the Smoks as they were the ones chasing him for a time (Jorkinton put a off the record contract on him to bandits as well). So, all he wanted is to kill Folstern (Jorkinton's only son) and have the Smoks blamed for it. Sort of, kill 2 birds with one stone. Sorry for not making that clear.
There is no part 2 for this, but I do have a book (that I plan on finishing some day) that happens few years after this and has a different protagonist but includes Wayra and Cy in major roles.

?--really confusing end,How does he know it's Cy?,How does he know he's killed the generals son?--& why would he go straight to Cy when he made the deal with the Leader, not Cy?-not at all sure what happened at all,It read ok until the last 5 mins-ie.when there was supposed to be an actual story to it,I'm still scratching my head.

Hey there. Let me clear those things up for you. I guess spoilers alert?
Wyra (main character) quit the army under general Jorkinton because he felt the senseless killing of villagers was not justified. Still, that made Wayra a deserter and the general took it personally. So, not only was Wayra a wanted man by the army, but Jorkinton also employed The Smoks, (a band of outlaws that also do jobs for people in power so they would leave their village alone) to hunt him down like a dog.
So, after 5 years on the run the contract on Wayra has expired/been forgotten and Wayra decided it's payback time. His main target was of course General Jorkinton, but he wanted to hurt him bad. You see, general was already an old man and just killing him would not be enough in Wayra's mind.
So, he waited in the shadows for a better opportunity to present itself, and it did. Wayra found out that general's only son will be traveling with all of his possessions. He knew the son will be heavily guarded, so that's why he decided to make a deal with his enemy.
As he knew the Smoks will be interested in the gold and not ask too many questions. In a way he also thought it would be poetic justice for them, who hunted him, help Wayra kill the son.
Finally, Wayra went to Cy because he knew that Cy has doubled crossed him and not Kilroy (the leader). Kilroy was a bandit but not as cunning or honorless as Cy. Plus Wayra in a way respected Kilroy, but despised Cy, and saw him as vile human being (the whole duel Cy was enjoying the night before).
So, what happened is that Cy with a band of Smoks went on before Wayra, killed the son and took all the loot. The thing is that the two Smoks that were with Wayra were killed by the guards, hence the general will know the Smoks were involved in his sons killing.
The result? Jorkinton will not let it go and the whole village might burn and Wayra wanted Cy to see it, but not be able to stop it. That's why he hurt him but didn't kill him.

Please make sure is begging? It's simply a polite statement that if you like the story you can support it, if not, that's fine too. It's not begging or a desperate wish as you put it in another comment.
