I love that you make reviews of your hauls after a year. It really helps with decision making on the viewers part to hear what you liked about something, and why. Many thanks!
12:52 This Mijello Pure Pugment set has been on my wishlist for some time. I appreciate your comments one year after use. There are lots of "first impressions" videos online but having your opinion after a whole year is valuable. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Thanks, Helen!
Those Flashe paints are on my NEXT list! I’m not fond of acrylics and they look like a happy alternative. The use of your haul one year on is impressive! I’m loving your recommendation for the gelatos. They gave that extra little punch to my landscapes. 😊
Hi Lisa, the Flashe paints ARE acrylic paints. They are matte, thick, professional grade ones, that dry fast. An unsolicited word of advice: don’t use your good watercolor brushes with any acrylic paints. Cheers!
This is what the website says: "Flashe paint is made from a unique resin compared to traditional acrylics. This allows the intensity of the pigments and luminosity of the colours to be unleashed while drying perfectly flat without brushstrokes leaving a smooth velvety finish that doesn't look at all plasticky." So it sounds like they're not quite the same. I quite like acrylics, but I love the texture and finish of these more! Glad you're enjoying the Gelatos, Lisa!
@@helencryer Dang it! I genuinely thought they are like any other acrylic paints, even though I realized they don’t have the same look once you use them. But I like them very much and I’ll continue to use them. As Helen mentioned in her video, they have a few unique hues not found in any other brand, which I consider to be gorgeous and very useful to me. Thank you for the clarification.
When I had brushes I didn't quite enjoyed because of their shape I gave them a little haircut 😂. It worked out quite well though i was scared of completly ruining them but I thought if I don't use them the way they are and can't really give them to anyone I could at least try to make them more usable. One brush ( probaly 20+ years old) had several "haircuts" now and is my favourite texture brush.
I've done that before! I have a lovely travel Tintoretto brush that was just wayyy too pointy, that I gave a careful haircut to, and now it's perfect! I'll still keep some longer point ones though, for the few times I might need them.
This was one of my favorite art haul videos you did. Especially love the wildflower book. Love that you used a great deal of the materials and really enjoy them. Keep up the wonderful artwork!
Thanks for the walkthrough on your materials; it's always helpful to see how they work with artists' practices. I'm holding off on buying paints in quantity until I get an unrelated milestone accomplished, but have previous and pandemic-acquired sketchbooks and drawing materials.
Hullo Helen, I noticed a couple of drill/hole recommendations for the wood palettes. Getting the finer tooth drill bits is good going with a higher speed drill or even a drill press or drillpress holder for your hand held drill. Higher speed is a good idea like the Dremel that just goes faster and going with a Dremel bit or stone grinder for a smooth dip/hole in the wood. Good Luck there! I really like the synthetic brushes from Princeton the Velvet touch and Aqua Elite's are some of the best synthetic's I have ever used, more like the best Kolinsky than the cheaper Kolinsky's! The best thing about the Molotow markers are you can fill and re-fill your own and also buy them empty! I like the buy fluid acrylics to fill markers and I have seen others use acrylic inks for markers too! Thanks for sharing your results of your haul with us!
Hi, thanks ever so much for your input! I got a Dremel today, and a Dremel ball bit, plus a diamond ball bit to smooth the holes even more, and I was pretty successful! Mini palettes here I come! (Plus I have some wooden sealer). I've yet to try the Velvetouch, but everyone seems to like them, so I'm very tempted! I actually have a couple of empty markers ready to make my own mixes, but they are Daler Rowney ones for their FW Acrylic inks.
Yup, def one of my favourite of your "hauls". I bought the Le Franc Borgois but only the tester as the price is prohibitive over here. I LOVE them and altho haven't used them in any "pieces", I love mixing them and making fabulous colours 😆! I will use them in a mixed media piece at some point as I think they'll match really well with my Neo IIs, of which, thanks to you, I now own every single colour expect the metallics 🤭. And my goodness, you should see my storage solution for them 😀 - thank you Temu! I'm going to start calling myself Helen soon as I'm completely obsessed with making every single storage solution perfect for my studio! Anyway, thanks again for this onc, really interesting. Hope you're having a fab weekend in paradise x
They're such nice paints aren't they?! And so good with mixed media. 😂 I want to see the storage solution!!! I'm only keen on good storage because I'm so impatient that I know I won't use stuff if it's not easily accessible and easy to get the exact colour I want!
I love the one year reviews, I got the Sushma Hegde book and absolutely love it and use it all the time,I also got the Princeton Neptune brush set and again they’re used daily 🙏
I love Princeton brushes, Neptune, Aqua Elite and Velvetouch. I even have one of the Neptune travel brushes in a size 10. And I like how you store your pencils. Keep thinking about doing that...
I haven't tried any Velvetouches yet, but I like my Aqua Elites, and Neptunes are probably my all time favourites along with Silver Black Velvets! Keeping my pencils in cases has actually made a real difference in how much I use them!
I got the Mission Gold 24 Pur Pigment set a few months ago for their generally smooth, non-granuating colors. I'm not tempted by their new granulating ones at all. This set is perfect for me.
@helencryer I agree. The watercolor world is too saturated with granulating colors. I love the ones I have, as well as the others I've learned to mix myself!
Oh I definitely need to check out those pencil cases & that is a cool tip on how to open all three zippers at once. I also have the Princeton Neptune brushes that are my main brushes. I really enjoyed seeing which of the art haul items you have continued to use after a year. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on them again!

I love my Mijello mission gold. Now they are making granulating colours. I've seen them and they are beautiful. But i was able to mix many of them with the paints i have already. Anyway, that was just an aside. Love yo9ur mixed media paintings. They are loose yet very detailed. I so want to visit Cornwall, but it's rather pricey from here in Montreal, Canada. But I will make it there one day! Always look forward to your videos.

Helen with Amazon deal day I purchased Paul Rubens oil pastels, today I tried them with left for the 1st time. A few were wet? in the box, which I’ve never experienced with any of my others, I have wiped them & put tissue under them, an orange, & a blue were bad. I can’t find any silicate packs which I thought might help yet. Have you ever experienced anything like this? Thanks.
@@helencryer Thanks for replying so promptly. My Sennelier are very dry, my Myungo’s too. I also have cheap one 10,00 Euros which are dry. I guess it won’t be such a surprise next time. Really kind of you to reply especially in your free time. Thanks.
@@helencryer That's what I love about your haul videos. You don't just buy, you plan, you use, you organize, you reflect, you relinquish items that don't sell you well, you rethink, you plan some more - and you make it all look do-able and even FUN. You're a marvel.
@@helencryer Try using a drill bit for metals. I used a wood drill bit just last week and it took forever to drill through a wooden frame. I then switched to a metal drill bit and it went through the wood like a charm. Be careful, though, different drills and different bits act differently. Hold your drill and your piece safely.
Thank you! I've ordered a Dremel, and a couple of different bits to try out with it. My large drill didn't have enough speed variation either. I think the Dremel will actually be useful for a tonne of other stuff too, so I'm excited!
@@helencryer I’m excited for you too 😄. I want to get a Dremel or some such drill, but I can’t find one yet. I imagine it to be easier to use than a drill for craft stuff. I’m not sure about woods, though.
Wow that's been a quick year. Since I only started watercolor in 2022 and then branched out from there, most of my art supplies are under two years old. Except for my Jo Sonja matt acrylic paints, some of them are a lot older. My daughter has started using those so I've replaced a few nearly empty tubes and picked some new colors. I do like the Flashe paints in the jars, it would be nice if the Jo Sonja paints came in jars or bottles. Just today we were trying to find a way to store the tubes in a way that we can see the lid end because the top of the tube is clear and you can see the paint color that way. Hubby might build us a box with sections so we can sort them into colors, that way we can either store them lid up or lying down with the top showing. I'm not sure which will be better but it beats rummaging through a box like we do now.
Not heard of the Jo Sonja ones - my tube acrylics are just stored in a shallow IKEA drawer which I can pull out and dump on the table next to me - so I still need to rummage. If I used them more than for just gel plate stuff, I'd have to come up with a better solution too.
Makes me think we should all take a pic of our art hauls and set a reminder on our phones for one year later to assess how it went.
I'd definitely be curious to know how other people get on, too!

Since the liquitex are the only ones reporting pigments and lightfastness, maybe a matte spray at the end would resolve the matte finish issue. :)
