    Hi Justin !
    Can you import an image to sketch on the drawing surface ? Or should I draw all my formers, or templates, and then bring them on the surface created on the green axis ?
    Thanks

    Hello! I want to ask how to make a "NOT" manifold solid object into a solid one..? Because even the solid inspector says nothing's wrong with my model but i just can't slice it because it is not a manifold solid object. Thank you in advance

      this will work for only 3axie cnc
      1st you need to know the thickness of the board you will be using ( you will add that to the thickness option on the slicer plugin )
      2rd you need to select the flatten option on the plugin.
      3rd select the flatten groups make them in a 2d profile
      4rh draw the board size of your CNC
      5th place each part into the board ( make sure you understand where it will cut 1st )
      6th delete everything but the parts you will cut make sure you don't have groups and if you can weld ( with the weld plugin) all the lines together
      7th export the file as a DXF
      that should work if not you will need to head to AutoCAD
      1st open your file
      2rd select all and purge all lines
      3rd select a part and join lines
      4th move to 0 ;0 points then
      5th export file as dxf

    Justin, great videos. How would one create models for liquid architecture? Currently I am creating the internal structures and then adding facades or skins. I was looking at some of Zaha Hadid's buidlings and wondering how they modeled them.

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dennis - do you have images of what you're talking about? Each building is approached differently depending on what you're trying to create - some you'd approach with an extension like curviloft, others with an extension like flowify, and still others with tools like Artisan or Vertex Tools or SubD - it just depends. Thanks!

      There are many types and shapes. I'm looking that these as inspiration. I just tried creating a spline and using curviloft but it locked up.

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You may want to try either the Curviloft Skinning option (the third option in the tool), or maybe something like Soap Skin and Bubble. That said, especially for the first image, that's a fairly difficult shape to make. They discuss something similar in this thread (forums.sketchup.com/t/help-with-hyperbolic-curves/16523), but I'm not 100% sure how I'd make something like that in SketchUp. They probably used a program more like Rhino for that building. Thanks!

    Great video! But how can I draw this bench without plugins?

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The short answer is...it would be very difficult. Why would you want to if you have a workflow for creating it with plugins?

    • @Thesketchupessentials

      Only if they're modeled as solids - otherwise the extension won't work...

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure - I haven't really worked much with that extension - that said, it's probably worth a try if nothing else is working - thanks!

    Hi, i have a problem, maybe two.
    1. When i find the error with solid i can’t use any command, i need to exit from extentions to modify my Group.
    2. (last but not least) When i draw the line that close the Group for Created a Solid this no work, i make a counturn of the hole, but this step no work, the only method to close the hole wiht a single line it’s explode, but it’s impossible next have a solid.
    I not understading why.

    • @kraven1411
      @kraven1411 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      i resolve point 2, i don’t click “modify group”. =)

  • @Z-add

    Since sketchup doesn't have true curves. You shouldn't directly go to cnc from sketchup. You need something like vectric in between sketchup and cnc.

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      My understanding (and I haven't tested this) is if you export your curves to something like DWG or DXF, they get exported as true curves. I don't have a ton of CNC experience, but don't you have to export to an external software anyway to do the actual routing? You can't just do that straight out of SketchUp, can you? Thanks

    • @benculley6328
      @benculley6328 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct. You would say export the file in dxf format making sure the camera view is set to parallel projection into cnc software such as vectric where you create a cutting tool path for each shape.

    How to add hole in this bench.

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want to add a hole in this bench, probably the easiest way is to do it before you slice the bench. More info on cutting holes in objects in SketchUp here - th-cam.com/video/yZ5bVL4HNU4/w-d-xo.html

    I have done all the things you described in your video and they just don't work, its ok sculpting your organic surface BUT when you go to lay your project flat it doesn't work!!! SketchUp doesn't smooth out the curves, instead all you get is a load of facets. in short it's just a big octagon instead of a smooth curve. I have exported this to my CNC machine and it looks terrible.
    Please don't tell people SketchUp can do things it's just not equipped for. BS!!!
