    Simon's relaxed style is inspiring man. It's not an easy thing to do to play fast, accurate, but loose with power still. He is a master.

    There's something so engaging about Simon's playing. I love how ergonomic those snare/hat setups are -- it's like he's sitting there drinking a cup of coffee; so relaxed.

    Who can say who is "The best" drummer? SP`s playing is always precise, and enjoyable, and he has one of the best tuned and sounding kits in the world, I always like listening to his playing

    • @nielsemilbechnaumann
      @nielsemilbechnaumann 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The kit he is playing is always tunes terrible. :Listen to the toms in this video... Haven't heard him live though.
      He is amazing, but he can't tunedrums.

    • @BackLooking
      @BackLooking 7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Are you actually being serious? His drums are perfectly tuned. The drums always sound different when you sit behind them, different when you stand or sit in front of them (they sound different in different parts of the room) and they sound totally different on a recording. The sound in this video doesn´t represent the actual sound of the drums.

      I kick his ass. He doesn't do enough double bass and all he does is hit those ridiculous array of toms with single strokes. Tommy Aldridge or Vinnie Paul(Pantera) or the one and only me are what the world should listen to.

    Simon Phillips is cool! I'm the one I admire the most! As I get older, the taste comes out. I play with unique ideas and surprises. How to use the hi-hat is wonderful! Some professionals are not good at hi-hats. Simon is specially amazing. I always feel offbeat when playing. It is quite difficult for even a professional to carve a cymbal legato or hi-hat with the left hand. But the way to hit it is correct. Isn't that natural? The co-starring of Japanese Hiromi and Anthony seemed to be fun. That performance was like a witch who freely manipulated the live performance.

    • @Fred_P
      @Fred_P 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a custom made 22" Armand Ride sound lab prototype. You can't buy one. I've asked Zildjian about both the ride and the 24" Swish Knocker but they just give the standard answer "we don't offer custom made cymbals". What a joke of a company. Literally every other company has realized that people want to have the same cymbals as their idols. Such as the Sabian David Garibaldi signature ride etc.
      If you want you can get close enough if you sample a few 22" A Zildjian Medium Rides though. I picked one that weighs 2700 g (they usually weigh around 3000 g) and it's very similar sounding to Simon's ride. But there is no cymbal quite like the 24" Swish Knocker though.

      You are absolutely spot on about the 70s era Swish Knocker,it's a glorious sounding instrument ! I've a feeling Zildjian can't actually replicate that sound anymore for some strange reason. I say that because I've see Simon using later versions and I presume custom made Swish Knockers that aren't the same ones available to buy,even they don't have the same sound as the originals. His are something between 23 inches and 24 inches plus they're a heavier weight than the re-issued version. I have one,22",medium thin,no rivets and the only way I can get close to Simons sound is to stick a 4" square patch of clear tape to the non playing side of the cymbal to focus the sound a little.
