- You NEVER know what you'll see when you get off the highway in Mississippi!
In total, I spent 7 days in Mississippi, driving around, checking stuff out. And the rule was - no highways. Cause you don’t see the good shit when you’re on the interstate. The only way you really get to know a place is by taking the backroads. So that’s what I did.

If Mississippi changed its name to "Ukraine" the federal government would send assistance and money right away.
Every year the rest of us pay for the taker states in the South. Mississippi would grind to a halt if it weren't for our Federal money.
Yes if Russia invaded MS
@scottstempmail9045 if mississippi is considered a taker state, how much of a "taker" is ukraine given that they haven't contributed one dime in taxes to the United States?
@@scottstempmail9045 That's horse****. The poverty in rural areas in the west and even the Northeast is just as bad as some places in the South, and there's a reason everyone is moving here. And it's not because they're collecting welfare.

Poor Mississippi and West Virginia. Two states that are in the bottom of every ranking. No jobs, horrible health categories, and lots of poverty. However, tons of friendly people that would help anyone that they can 🙏
You might want to visit before posting. I live in WV and have a great job in the aerospace industry (in fact I moved here 2 years ago for that reason). Plenty of jobs here. As for poverty, there was more poverty in the projects of the large east coast city I moved away from that here. As for "health categories", no idea what that means.

The legacy of institutional racism is alive in Mississippi.
as a California refugee, one of the first things that really stood out to me when i got to the South was the sheer amount of ATVs, dirt bikes and side by sides just cruising down public roads.

The folks that live here are very strong willed and and determined to remain in their birthplace. I don't think I would stay and rebuild after living through one of these storms. God bless all the people keeping hope alive. The USA blindly gives millions of dollars to countries that are hell bent on destroying us. While while survivors of natural disasters, sit and wait for months that soon turn into years for any assistance from the government to get back on their feet.
Omg Nick you crack me up . Your videos are GOLD. You’re right no good shit on the interstate lmao

People in America's urban areas are ignored just as much.
I drove from Colorado to Florida and took all back roads through Mississippi and it was like going back in time.
Though I’m sure there’s a lot of “far right propaganda” on the radio in Mississippi, I don’t think that little snippet you played should be labeled that. Men shouldn’t compete in women’s sports and I don’t know why that’s controversial
I agree with you there. Especially in contact sports, I think trans folks should have their own division. There is a reason for division of sex, ages, and weight classes in sports. Women shouldn't be getting beat on by men, idk why thats controversial now.
I honestly don’t understand why or how anyone could think that’s controversial, too.
If that’s not controversial then admitting that men and women aren’t equal isn’t controversial which means that the people in power who push feminism know that feminism is bogus. That’s the problem. You can’t say that men shouldn’t compete in women’s sports with acknowledging that, and if that’s the case, they need to stop treating men the way that they do.
Agreed 👍
Transgender weightlifter Laurel Hubbard (male at birth but transitioned eight years before the 2001 Tokyo Game) became the first openly transgender athlete to compete at the Olympics in a different gender category to which they were born.
She overbalanced on her opening weight of 120kg, taking the bar behind her shoulders. Her second effort of 125kg was ruled invalid on a 2-1 majority decision by the referees, with her third attempt also failing at the same weight.

There are still too many bigoted people around on the web and in real life.
I knew exactly who that was with all the Confederate merch when I saw it lol. He used to own a store called Twin Oaks on Hwy 49 with the huge flag.
I was skeptical of your video until the very end, when you said "I'd drove around California for a month, and Mississippi for a week, and I think I'd rather live here than there."
We know we're the poorest, but that's simply because large companies don't invest here. Can't have a $100,000+ job if there is only farms and Walmarts hiring for 100 miles in any direction. I've also traveled around this country, and have seen many times that poverty breeds strength, self-reliance, and community. Most people in large cities don't even know who lives on their floor in thier apartment building, but poor people can name every family within 20 miles of their home. We often do grow our own food, fix our own vehicles, build our own houses, and defend ourselves from anything that's a threat. We drink the free coffee at the local convenience store, not Starbucks. We drive 20 miles to town if we need something because nobody delivers that far outside of Amazon. There is a ton wrong with Mississippi, especially the Delta and Jackson, but most of that can simply be fixed with Federal money and better politicians. Sadly, that's two things I think we'll never see here.
How would I be treated over there, if I went to visit?? I’m a brown-skinned Latino from Miami (I’ve been told I look Samoan/Polynesian) Is racism still a big thing over there??
I like the description of the people.

Federal money is a trap. If you take the Federal money then you have to do whatever the Feds say, if you don’t then they threaten to take the money away . The Feds pressure states that take Federal money all the time into passing laws, doing this or that thing that the Feds want that particular state to do.
I’d rather be poor than have the Feds presureing me and my state.

do you know what "malign" means? look it up.
It's too bad you didn't get to see the original homestead of Navin Johnson when you were in Mississippi. He grew up in a poor sharecropping family but eventually became a millionaire by inventing the Opti-Grab. Due to a class action lawsuit, he lost most of his money and had to leave California to go back and live with his family in Mississippi.
Wow Nick! You just confirmed Wetiko. It's debatable if it's the Government or the people's fault, really? So if Trans Atlantic Trade, Jim Crow, Willie Lynch, The Red Summer of 1919, Rosewood, Black Wall Street, The Projects, Redlining and etc. still has you debating why the people can't ever since to pull themselves up by their boot straps when The System has continuously unalive them and taken their boots. My family is from Clarksdale, Rena Lara, and Yazoo City. I loved growing up there. Sadly it's not the same.
My parents were born in Mississippi on the Delta. I spent many summers as a child there. Lived there in the early 2000’s before moving to Memphis. Despite all of its negative history, I still love Mississippi. I feel connected to the energy in Mississippi the positive and negative.

As a truck driver, I've been all over "the lower 48", and western Canada.
I'm also mixed black & white, and look Mexican. The ONLY race-related problem I ever had, was getting fuel at a truck stop that was at the Mississippi/Tennessee state line: the cashier (black) kept rambling on to me in Spanish. I don't speak Spanish, and politely asked him several times to speak English, and he kept ignoring me.
I finally had to yell at him in front of at least 12 customers "HEY!!! DO YOU KNOW WHY I DON'T ANSWER YOU IN SPANISH? BECAUSE I'M NOT A F&@%$!G MEXICAN! THAT'S WHY!!!
SPEAK F&@%$!G ENGLISH, A##%@&E!!!", and I stormed out of there - everybody just standing there, speechless. 🤣

Wtf 😳
Spain outlawed slavery in the mid-1500s as did most of the world by that time. TWO HUNDRED YEARS LATER the British were still enslaving native people in North America and bringing people from Africa to work on their plantations. It didn't stop, as we all know, until the mid-1800s after the Civil War. The world wasn't young then. The rest of the world had long since outlawed slavery. (But, a different kind of slavery and human trafficking is still going on in America.)
@@lisapolanski9379 Spain outlawed Native American slavery in 1542; still importing slaves to their colonies from Africa well into the 1800's. Outlawing slavery in Puerto Rico in 1873, Cuba in 1886, Mexico in 1837, etc. Check all Spanish colonies. Slavery in Europe wasn't banned until the late 1700's-early 1800's in most countries.

It's not your fault!
Where I live, in Alabama, there's two types of Yankees, "Yankees" and "Damn Yankees","Yankees" come here to visit, "Damn Yankees" are the ones that come here and stay.
@@Joe_Bob_Trucking lol
@@Joe_Bob_TruckingI only learned a few years ago that the flag with the crossed blue bars is the Tennessee battle flag, and not the Confederate States flag.
How did that battle flag become more famous (and associated with the Confederacy) than the actual Confederate Flag?
WE help and send money to every country but our own..such a disgrace to leave these people like this..
The Ukrainian refugees got free big houses when they arrived in the US 😂😂
I wonder if there’s a politician in the state capital or in DC who has the guts to go tell those people to their faces, they’re not getting help because the money is going to…well, anybody else they can think of.
Hello Nick! Aka, "handsome TH-cam guy!" I love and enjoy your videos. I especially loved the song you sang in this one.
great video nick !!
I had a friend from Southern California move to somewhere in Mississippi. I gave him a rough time for it (we are both Hispanics.) but in a country of 350 million people, you can find most anything if you look hard enough
So True.
I love your videos, I can not travel so watching your videos are great for me. I live in a very small town in northeast Colorado called Akron. We only have 1,600 people. I love it here. But I wish I could travel but not physically able to so I watch your videos, thank you so much.

I liked Mississippi. My family stayed in Gulfport for a week.
Vicksburg is a beautiful area and lot's of history. Some intresting Delta Blues history there. Natchez Trace National Parkway is a scenic drive.
