    They mentioned that players are using cue extensions, and the way I explain it is that a cue is like a bicycle-if it’s too small, you can’t get the extension you need and you play kind of cramped. Hard to get a good flow going.
    I started using one a few years back and it’s really improved my game. Takes a bit of getting used to, but once you do you won’t go back.

    • @Joe-Z
      @Joe-Z 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Old School the ones I've see range from 3" to 8". They probably make longer ones too. Depends on the brand you have. Your cue will weigh a lot more though.

    • @gregaclark2
      @gregaclark2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tried the extension myself for a long time, and found that it is completely unnecessary, despite what I tried to tell myself and what others might believe. I actually did like the feel, but it just didn't really change anything in my game.
      I'm no pro, but I found that the only thing I could do to improve my game further was learning how to concentrate better/more consistently, and putting in ungodly hours at the table. No extension or device will ever compare to hours upon hours of quality practice or an ounce of pure focus.
      For example, if you handed a machine a 58" wooden cue with a conical taper, it would shoot just as accurately as a 61" carbon fiber pro taper w/ a Kamui tip. I've known and met several tall (6'4" and above) semi-pro speed players, and they just cut ass no matter what.
      Personally, I like to play as close to 'natural' as possible, so when I'm at a bar, a house cue doesn't feel completely foreign, but the carbon fiber cues do feel amazing w/ a glove.

    • @raystanczak4277
      @raystanczak4277 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Old School My shaft is an inch longer (30” rather than the standard 29”), and my extension is 4”. 5” total.
      But you have to watch out that the longer cue doesn’t hit the overhead lights, which you’re used to clearing with a normal cue when you get up off of a shot. Also you don’t want to blind your friends, because the end of the shaft is way out there like a spear. You get used to it in a few days.

    • @raystanczak4277
      @raystanczak4277 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Joe-Z The weight of mine-2 oz.-seemed like a real problem the first time I tried it, even though I’m 6’ 3” with long arms. So much that I gave it to a friend. Fortunately, he didn’t like it and gave it back.
      Here’s the interesting thing-I played pool for 4-8 hours every day for around ten years. After I’d tried the x the first time, we had a lockdown for a year. No pool. When I got back, I found I’d forgotten a lot of details-both good things AND bad. So I decided to make my changes then, before I went back to my old habits, and found there were many.
      Probably the main problem was with my stroke-not getting down far enough, elbow tended to drop, poor follow-through. I realized those were lazy, amateurish problems. Once I corrected them, my stroke naturally began to extend, and I really noticed how the length of my cue was limiting my natural stroke. Now the extension feels very natural, and I’ve never even thought about the weight.
      Totally surprised me! So I’ll just say, if you have an extension, don’t give it away just yet. You can never tell.
      Keep shooting straight! 🎱😎

    I was shooting pool when "The Color of Money" came out and suddenly everyone wanted to play 9-ball. However, IMO 9-ball is a lot harder than 8-ball for low-med skilled players, and a lot of the time, players were just launching shots to get a hit, sinking the ball was a wish, not an expectation (and no one played safeties outside of tournaments). When the glow of 9-ball and that very popular movie faded, most went back to 8-ball. Contrastingly, at the highest level, I think 8-ball is harder than 9-ball, which is an interesting switch.

    Miscues may come down to what they are polishing the balls with. If a was is being used they play great but I think the wax comes off the cueball and collects on the tip. Making it look shiny. If you were to wipe the chaulk off of it. Kamui tips seem to have this problem. They seem to have ultimate grip over other tips but also seem to glaze over time. Resulting in a sudden and unexpected miscue at times. Its have me switch away from them dozens of times over the years but I always seem to go back as they seem to offer the best overall performance most consistency with high grip. G2 Hard tips are very good as well. Zan grip hard or hybrid pro are very good. Predator S seems decent but the softer tips seems to have a bit more deflection and require much more stroke for stun type shots.

    • @johndenver752
      @johndenver752 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      get a tip scuffer, or a needle and punch lots of holes in the tip...it will de-glaze the tip, and it will make little holes that will fill up with chalk and increase the adherence of the tip to the shiny balls

    • @TimZ007
      @TimZ007 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@johndenver752 I have all those and a gator grip. I try to limit their use as they wear down the tip. trying out the new V10 chalk . You can chalk a lot less and much less caulk transfer onto the cueball and felt. I like how an elkmaster does not glaze as there is chalk built into the tip but they are a little to soft and dont last very long. Even pressed which is better. Grip feels down about 10% max grip compared to kamui though.

    What do the numbers in parentheses mean behind the players names? I probably should be able to figure this out, but can't.
    For a big guy with long arms the long cue also lets you get a proper spread between the shooting hand and the bridge, especially if the shot calls for an extended bridge when reaching a bit.
    I think it was Oi in a match I just watched that did the very same thing, right off the table as well. For some strange reason what went through my head was Python's "Nobody expects the Spanish inquisition". Yeah, I'm weird. LOL, wrote that before you showed it again.
