- Imagine if Frankenstein was into dressmaking - let's see what we can do with a couple of old shirts and some scrap fabrics - whatever I end up with, I'll have enjoyed the process and learned something along the way, I hope you enjoy it too! :)
Thank you to Tracy Myers @tmyershandmade978 for the inspiration for this one, even though mine went off in a whole different direction in the end, her channel is full of wonderful creative ideas. Here's her reversibly collage jacket video -

Looking good Annie I love to wear something I've made and is totally unique
Your getting really good at this xx
Ah thanks Jacquie, yea it's so satisfying isn't it? I'm still not happy with this one, it may continue to morph for a little while yet until I feel it's "right", but I do enjoy the whole process :)
Annie, I’m loving the videos but I know the process of filming over many days and all the process isn’t easy. I appreciate what you’re doing and am very inspired. 😊
Thank you so much Martha, I really appreciate that, and I'm inspired by your videos too, isn't it brilliant how we all inspire each other? :) xo
Love to listen to you verbalise your creative ideas. You've got another lovely handmade, unique Annie fashion piece. Great!
Thank you so much Linda, I'm really happy you enjoyed my waffle and you like the finished top - believe it or not, I'm STILL working on it and it may change shape again yet! Tahnks for watching :)
I love these projects, they are very inspirational, so yes please, do keep recording them when you do a thrift flip. I may have to watch them in more than one sitting, but that is OK.
Thank you so much Kari, that means a lot to me. Do you think I should consider splitting them into two or more parts and putting them on a playlist, would that make it easier for people to watch? I do usually time-stamp the longer videos but I forgot with this one. Please let me know what you think :)
@@artyfartyannie for me (different person) I like to see the whole thing in one video. I can always go back as needed. Time stamps are handy.
Your voice is so soothing and fun!! It makes us feel like we are in your craft room with us! Thank you for these videos! They are super inspirational 😁
Ah thank you so much, what a lovely comment, that makes me really happy, because that's exactly how I feel, like we're all sitting crafting together - I often find myself saying things like "what do you think?" and then realising you're not really there, so you can't tell me! :)
Yes, it is truly beautiful and colourful, thank you for sharing. Also loved the first one you made, simply gorgeous.
Thank you so much Beatrice, I really appreciate that and I'm so happy you like both the tops. I'm still tinkering with this one, it may morph yet again, back into an open jacket, I'm stil not sure ... :)
I love your creativity!! I'd love to see more of these flips, and I love Tracy too, she's awesome for inspiration as well. I do hope you continue to do these flips, but also, only do them if they are fun for you! It's your joy in your art that is the most important part that makes these videos interesting for us. :) And personally, I love that they're a bit long!
Thank you very much for the positive feedback, I really appreciate it :) I do love lots of different arts and crafts, and I also enjoy the process of filming/editing, and then sharing ideas and hopefully inspiring other people really adds to the joy for me - as long as I don't stress myself out that they're not good enough, or too long or whatever! my content tends to change to reflect what I'm into at the time and not all of the creative hobbies I enjoy lend themselves so well to filming, but I'm very happy to carry on making these videos as long as people find them interesting or inspiring. Thank you for watching and taking the time to leave your thoughtful comment :)
You are so creative! I love that you explain what you are thinking as you create.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that, thanks for watching :)
Am loving these videos Annie. I've now made two tops totally inspired by you. Thanks so much. 😊😊 Just something as simple as taking the collar off a shirt has made me wear it!
Ah that's brilliant Louise, Iit makes me so happy to think I might have inspired you to have a go - yes definitely, even quite small changes can make all the difference, you don't have to get carried away like I do! This one is actually still evolving, I'm not quite happy with it yet, but it will get there. I might do a couple of shorter, simpler makeovers, just to show how quick and easy they can be. I'd love to see some pics of yours, please do tag me if you post any pics, and thanks for watching :)
Using some 100% cotton bandana fabric in making the peplum (and as small patches) on both shirts might be a good effect. Bandanas are made in many colors and prints today. In another video, I watched a woman hand sew an nice flannel men's shirt inside a heavy men's corduroy shirt to make herself a very nice, warm, and machine washable shirt jacket (with pockets on the outside and on the inside). That finished shirt/jacket is beautiful on her. I'm still hunting for a heavy men's corduroy shirt to make myself one. She did take the collar, collar band, all buttons, and the cuffs off the flannel shirt before she started. Wonderful! Your new shirt is a beautiful combination of many happy discoveries. Oh boy! It is beautiful.
That sounds like a great idea, thank you, I'll watch out for a corduroy shirt too! :)
Another winner, dahlink!
Thank you so much sweetie dahlink!! :)
LOVE Traci Myers!!! Yours are wonderful also! Thanks~
Ah thank you so much, Traci is such an inspiration isn't she? :)
Hello Annie that was fun I really enjoyed watching and listening to your ideas looks amazing ! T.F.S.big hugs Sonya
Hi Sonya! Thank you so much, I'm so happy you enjoyed it, thanks for watching - I must pop over and see what you're up to at the moment, see youthere! :) xo
Definitely inspiring! I love these videos and what a fantastic top!
Thank you so much, that's really kind of you, I'm so happy you are enjoying the videos, thanks for watching :)
Love this idea ❤
Thank you very much Peggy and thanks for watching! :)
Loved this . Camera far away works. If you watch on phone or tablet, viewer can focus in on detail themselves, if needed. You’re doing a great job Annie xx
Thanks Jacqui, I didn't think about that, cos I don't tend to watch on phone or table myself, but that's good to know xo
I love seeing what you come up with when you do these thrift flips! Fantastic top!!
Thanks so much Carol! That's really kind of you, thanks for watching :)
I enjoyed your flip. I watch Tracey’s videos too, so it was great to see someone else take inspiration from her and do it differently and seeing the thought processes involved , how things can change along the way, etc. So please do continue these flips.
Oh thank you so much, that's really kind of you. I would love to do a fabric collage like Tracy shows in that video - just need to find some suitable motifs, I know she sometimes cuts flowers and birds and suchlike from bedding fabric, so I'll be looking out for some next time I'm in the charity shops. have you tried any projects like this? :)
This is so much fun, I love the idea ☺☺
Thank you 🤗It was fun but it's not "done", still not quite happy with it so I'm still tinkering .... :)
You are so inspirational! I never thought of putting 2 shirts together to create a lovely top and love that idea! Thank you for sharing your journey with us, I love everything you do, you are such a creative person and a joy to follow around!
Thanks so much Katia! 😊I love doing all my arts and crafts, and sharing them here really adds to the joy of it for me, so that means a lot, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :)
Absolutely LOVE your top! What a fabulous video. I've never been brave or adventurous enough to try something like this😬 but you certainly inspire me to try. I love the fabrics in these shirts - they work so beautifully together and I'm sure you will enjoy wearing your gorgeous new garment. CONGRATS for a job well done👏🏻👏🏻💕💕
Go for it! Honestly, if you can sew a straight line, you can do this (tbf my lines aren't even straight!) and it is so satisfying - even more satisfying for me to be able to share it with everyone on here and hopefully inspire others to give it a go. Please share some pics if you do, and tag me, I would LOVE to see! :)
Look at you! Fabulous ideas, fabulous garment, well done indeed!
Thank you very much, that's really kind of you - I'm actually STILL working on this one, still not quite happy with it, so it may yet morph again :)
Very stylish ❤
Thank you Rhonda! :)
That top suits you so well!! It’s so cute.
Thank you very much - I'm still working on it, it's still evolving, I'm not quite happy with it yet ... :)
I LOVE it!! I hope you do more of these, I really enjoyed it, didn't think it was too long, and I like your style so I might try the same kind of thing! Thanks, Annie!
Yay, thank you Carrie! You should give it a go, it's so liberating! I might try some "bottoms" next, or a dress - watch this space :)
Do more of these. You give so many suggestions/ possibilities!!! Thank you.
Thank you so much Marsha, I really appreciate that :)
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching this transformation. I think that you’re very brave! Your results so far are amazing!
Thank you so much Marion - I'm still not quite happy with this one, it may yet undergo further transformation, in which case I'll share some pics in the FB and Discord communities. Have you tried this kind of transformation yourself? Please share pics and tag me if you do, I'd love to see :)
No, I haven’t as yet, but it’s on my radar. I sew clothes for myself, but I use patterns. It’s something I hope to do when I get more proficient.
Lovely top. I watched the video of the two flipped blouses into a light weight jacket I thought himm so want to do this while adding lace, yep have a thing for lace at the moment. Hope you have warm this beautiful creation.
Thank you very much Paula - I haven't worn it yet, as I still feel it needs work on the shape and finishing touches, so it's not quite there, but I'll keep working on it until I'm happy. Yes, I loved Tracy's jacket, and the whole idea of a collaging fabric images and lace and stuff together - she is SO good at that and it is definitely something I want to try, maybe using some of the lovely vintage laces I have, mixed with denim, floral and bird motifs would be lovely. Did occur to me that it would be important to wash any fabrics that aren't previously-used, or they might shrink when washed. I believe tracy gets a lot of her motifs from bedding sets, which is a fab idea :)
So clever and inspiring. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Shel, and thanks for watching! :)
I really loved this. Fantastic creative work. ❤
Thank you so much Carol, that's really kind of you. Have you done any makeovers like this? :)
Annie you’re amazing, your vision is fabulous, I love it 🩷. You definitely inspire me!🩷
Aw thank you so much Jan, it makes my day to think I might have inspired you, thanks for watching :)
I'm new to your channel. You just popped up and I'm so glad. Your wonderfully creative. I'm currently catching up. Enjoying your channel. Inspires me to get started creating again. Than you for sharing !!!👍
Ah thank you so much and welcome! It makes me very happy indeed to think that I might inspire you to get back to creating, we all need that in our lives. You are most welcome to join our free Discord community and/or Facebook group, there are lots of creative and inspiring people there, and always something going on, and you can show us what you're working on, we always love to see :)
OMG Annie that is such a fabulous top and thank you so much for recording the slitting moment I was holding my breath and hoping while you did it you brave woman!! So glad you got a fab result from all of that work. So fun and unique and have you guessed I love it? 💕
Ah thanks so much Liz, I'm really pleased you like it and enjoyed the slitting moment - I just HAD to share that! :)
It turned out beautiful! I love it.
Thank you very much Kelly, I'm so happy you like it - when it's properly finished, I'll wear it in a future vid and share some pics. Have you tried any makeovers yourself? :)
I love your projects! Thank You for sharing!
Thank you so much Lydia, I really appreciate that, so glad you like them :)
I'm recently searching for upcycle videos.
I love whimsy and you've got it dear! 🤗 I love this!
I love how you explain your thought process and how you evolve thru the entire piece.
Thank you 🙏 Absolutely love your style and hope you have more artsy boho pieces!
Thank you so much! Yes definitely have more planned, I love doing these, but I've been a bit sidetracked and snowed under recently, more coming soon though, thank you for the encouragement! :)
I love this ❤ Thankyou for showing all the steps .
Thank you so much Patricia, I really appreciate that - it's still evolving in fact, not quite happy with it yet! Thanks for watching :)
Looks super cool Annie, you’d pay so much money for a designer top like that it’s unique. Love it. x 💐
Thanks very much Jen, I'm so happy you like it - I feel like it's still not quite "right" so I'm continuing to work on it until it feels done, maybe a bit more shaping and there's a lot more scope for embroidery too xo
This is gorgeous!!
Ah thank you so much Stephanie, that's so kind of you - I'm still working on this one, not uite happy with the shape yet and lots more embroider to do. When it's finally "done" I'll wear it in a future video and share some pics in the Discord and FB groups. Thanks for watching :)
Slow/big stitches and patches, kantha, shisacho, stitching. I do love the top.
Thank you very nuch Laura, I had a lot of fun with this and it's very "me" :)
I want one too!
Thanks Bonnie, and thanks for watching :)
I love it. Thanks for letting us know you're thinking/thoughts while designing.
You are so welcome, thank you for watching and listening to my thoughts/ramblings and taking the time to leave a sweet comment, I really appreciate it :)
I just finished my own version of Traci’s reversible jacket. I loved your ideas/personalizations, especially the slashes. I may have to give them a try if I make another one.
ooooh, how did you get on? I'd love to see, please tag me if you share any pics, are you in our Fb group or Discord community? There are links in the description if you'd like to join, they're great places to share all kinds of creative stuff and connect with each other :)
Hi. Adorable top. Thank you.
Thank you Connie! 😊
Too funny, Im doing my last touches of the same tutorial from TraciM. I needed something to listen to as I am finishing up and chose you....fun working with you and really like the way your shirt turned out.
Hehehe that's a coincidence isn't it? Mine still isn't quite "done", I'm not quite happy with it yet, but will share pics when it's finished - I'd love to see some pics of yours too, please tag me if you post pics in the FB group or Discord (links in description if you haven't joined and would like to). I love how we all inspire each other and these ideas take on lives of their own as they go around, it's brilliant! :)
@@artyfartyannie I dont do the fb group right now but will keep it in mind🙂. I too dud a few things different. I took the cuffs from a satin dress shirt and put them on each front side with the button holes facing out and add ribbons to tie. A little fussy but has a "bustier" look to it. I then diyed it a taupe color to harmonize all the colors. Will add some blanket stitching at a later time. I love, love, love the effect the slashing you did on yours I got a midevil vibe.
@@Wandah-wu9or oh wow that sounds amazing, great idea to pull it all together by dying it, I hadn't thought of doing that - but I have now .... :)
Love it!! ❤
thank you! :)
Love it!
Thank you! :)
Thank you Annie for your video, oh my goodness what a thrift flip, amazing. I love you chatting away to us and thinking through your ideas. You had me in stitches ,I kept thinking of your top going out on its own and asking my elderly neighbour for a couple of shirts ,well he's the only old man I know 😂😂 then you said you were going to slash it 😮😲. Result amazing, very boho chic. Have you seen the company Magnolia Pearl ? Your tops would not look out of place on there. You have created designer one offs. Looking forward to more.
Ah thanks so much Carol, that means a lot to me, it really does. I hadn't heard of Magnolia Pearl, but I just had a peek and totally see wha tyou mean, I love their stuff!! :)
I know ,but what a bank balance you would need.
hehe yea, out of my league - but it's ok, we can do it ourselves, we have the technology ... :)
You have more patience than me.
hehe I'm still going on it actually Bonnie - I'm still not happy with the shape, want to do lots more i=embroidery and might even take it back to a front-opening jacket again!! :D
That is cute.
Thank you very much - it's still evolving since I uploaded this video, I just wasn't quite happy with the shape - I will do a quick show-n-tell when it's finally settled into its new form :)
fun
Thank you :)
I'm mostly interested in upcycling, re-making used clothes, free creativity rather than patterns and structure.
Yes I'm just the same Kristin, and it's so liberating to realise that you don't actually always need to follow a pattern, not for this kind of thing anyway :)
That looks amazing Annie! 😃 Have you adjusted your mannequin since losing weight?
Not yet, but I do need to wooHOO!! :)
Also. Please how you make the attachments on your top that you are wearing.
HI Connie - ah those were made from some pieces that came in Bazaar scrap packs, however you could easily make them from scratch. They're just circles of fabric, with a spiral of cord laid over the top and couched down with a contrast thread - I then added a lot of extra stitching to them (chain, whipped backstitch and more couching), attached them to the top with blanket stitch and I think I added some big straight stitches radiating outwards with french knots here and there. having said all that, you could keep it much more simple, just do the couched cord spiral - I get carried away because I love hand stitching but you don't have to if you don't enjoy that part. Hope that helps :) I'll plan a separate video soon showing some basic stitches and easy embellishments for garments, as others have asked about this too, so look out for that if you would like to know more xo
You should have modeled it from a little distance so we could see front and back a bit better
Ah yes, my filming and photography skills are not the best :)
Oh my gosh..you overthink so much..
Thank you for your comment Jilly. Thinking and creative problem-solving as I go along is part of the fun for me. I could easily edit the footage to make it appear that not much thought is involved, but that would be misleading, and besides many people have commented that they enjoy seeing how I think things through, so I choose to share the whole process - although it does make a longer video, I hope that some people will find it helpful if they haven't tried this kind of thing before, and feel confident to jump in and have a go. Have you done many flips like this yourself? I'd be interested to know how you approach it :)
@@artyfartyannieYour unique thought processes is what makes these videos for me!! I love hearing everything step by step, the creative process, all the many possibilities and seeing everything come to fruition. Really fun and inspiring! I hope you do more! 😊xx
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that xo
@artyfartyannie I enjoy and learn from your long videos. For me, when videos are too short I just don't learn how to try the same things.
