Well... it is what it is.... I’m pretty confident it’s not at all fallen into any of those major areas.... but I dropped it somewhere along the drivers side of the engine bay right around the AFC housing I believe..... Have a few New ones on the way.... unbelievable though..... She was so close to firing up again! 😑
LOUD 'N' PROUD bro. Shit happens man. I know the feeling, so close to being done then bam...think about it like this. On your next build. Now you know something. Be excited about problem. It taught you something bro. 👊its knowledge youll have forever and can teach back to others
Hello Brother hope all is well I know the situation can make you feel off but hey here is a little thing that may or may not help try to hold the valves up with some thin string by tying them at the keeper groove and tie both valves together this will avoid them from dropping into cylinder then put the valve covers on lightly snug on all cylinders take some masking tape and cover the intake manifold then put on a blow nozzle on your compressor hose and shoot the pressured air around the area you think the Keeper may have fell into in hopes that it will eventually drop to the floor This my help not a sure thing also call again your auto parts store and ask for Keepers not retainer the retainer is the round metal piece that sits above the springs they may be looking for a retainer instead of a keeper which is what you need. ch also with partsgeek.com
Keep your head up! I was bullet proofing my 6.0 and was reinstalling the head and my brother dropped it! I can’t wait to see the results for the nasty red! #LOUD’N’PROUDFAM
Run your first gen up to top dead center on number 1 cylinder the piston will hold your valve then use your tool to take a keeper from the first gen then you can get it back together then take a pencil magnet and find that bad boy or order one for to replace the one on first gen just an idea to keep ya going
I haven't read any of the other comments - so maybe someone has said this... or not... and maybe this will help in the future. I've done the same thing - and it's tough to find where something goes - however, I have found dropped small and tinyitems by repeating the process! Yes, I would take another part (a part that I don't need that is similar to the one lost) and drop it on purpose, hopefully in the same manner - while watching it as carefully as possible. It also helps to film it or have a helper watch from below or a different angle. After following it... bingo there is the original part. Its worked for me in the past.
chin up, sounds like you were doing just fine. mistakes and setbacks happen. if i couldn't find the retainer in town ( or at a salvage yard ), i would have instead bought a long magnetic retrieval tool and went through it again. it's in there somewhere.
I’d make sure you absolutely find that keeper before to start that engine even before you even put it together any more make sure you find it cuz if it’s in any oil passage or anywhere it could be at the bottom of your oil pan by now but make sure it’s found before you start it up you’ll regret it after it eats it and send Metal bits through your engine
Not sure if this is valid for a 2 gen but for the head studs I’ve herd people recommend that u machine down on top of the rocker pedestal, the head stead threading isn’t long enough and over time it back off and fuck your threads up, maybe only be valid for a first gen tho
When things like that happen the person to call is machine shops. They’ll have plenty of extras on hand. Most shops will keep original retainers when customers buy new ones on a rebuild. We never through any away. Might get lucky.
man, that sucks. i hate to say it, but if you can't find it anywhere in the engine bay or top of trans or on a suspension arm, you're going to need to pull the tappet cover & check if it's in there.... you do not want to start that thing with a keeper floating around inside the valvetrain... best of luck!
When you do your arp head studs do all you finally torque specks them starter the truck and let it run till it gets to temperature then shut it off and do a hot re torque! I just thought I would let you know 👍
Any diesel performance shops around you? Or a shop that works on a lot of Cummins or diesel trucks? Call a salvage yard or something surely you could scrounge one up.
If you ever run into that again try Case IH, they used the 5.9 12v in Maxxum Tractors. Engine parts like the valve retainers should be the same, at least it would give you another option.
Take the front rod holders off and use them in place of the missing one... at least that way when you do get the part it will be easier to install then having to look forward to dark corners
It's okay.call a machine shop they redo heads all the time,Theyll probably have extra.it might have fallen into the oil pan.should have put motor on top dead center. Then you wouldn't need the air to keep valves up.
Look at it this way, out of anything bad that could have happened that's one of the least bad things. Could've over torqued something and broken it, could've damaged a whole cylinder, piston gasket, etc. everyone in the industry of auto and diesel makes so many mistakes whether they be big costly damages, or loosing a small part like that. It's always gonna happen. Just gotta do what you gotta do
HorsepowerTube how close? But I contacted the company I ordered them from and told them 5-15 days won’t cut it. So they said they will get them here in 3.
Dude first step walk away from it. Start fresh tmrw, with a clean thought. Get ur light and look really good first. Then try the magnet in all the little hiding places. Last resort, get ur air gun, shoot in all the places it could have gone, then look on the floor. 9-10 you find it. Key is to start fresh tmrw, you got a new one coming anyway so it’ll be a bonus if you do find it. Good luck dude
Left Lane Diesels I'm a firm believer in that in one scenario I just burst and started kicking the truck with much steel toe boots and swearing off the top of my lungs the next morning I found the injector tip in my pocket 😐
You could pull one out of the first Gen. if it’s at tdc you could take pressure off and drop the valve on the piston. You just need to lift the valve back up after then pressure it up. Pain in the arse but it is possible. Or just wait for parts. What about fleece? They build heads and might have a bin of old ones.
Get a small diameter pencil style magnet and poke it around. Or call a machine shop that does cumins heads they probably have bad heads you can rob one off
Ryan Cadwallader thanks man... it’s been bothering me all day!.... I was doing so well and so close to finishing everything.... then one tiny hiccup stops everything ☹️😒

LOUD 'N' PROUD crap happens man ... I've done stupider ... Lol !!!

Take one off the first gen, then replace it when you get the new one...
For your retainer clip, go ask Locke Diesel or Dave's Diesel
Keep your head up! I was bullet proofing my 6.0 and was reinstalling the head and my brother dropped it! I can’t wait to see the results for the nasty red! #LOUD’N’PROUDFAM
Look in the coil bucket and on the front axle and the engine crossmember.
Try using compressed air and blow around where you think it fell. It may blow loose and hit the floor
I’d look by the injection pump or the lift pump on the side of the block or the front diff or the fuel filter housing
Run your first gen up to top dead center on number 1 cylinder the piston will hold your valve then use your tool to take a keeper from the first gen then you can get it back together then take a pencil magnet and find that bad boy or order one for to replace the one on first gen just an idea to keep ya going
Use a magnet rod and feel around in there an if you get it it'll make a little click sound so youll know you got it
Awesome video man! Everything will get resolved in the end

Love the “beard” see how long you can grow it
Josiah Noble not even.. it’s a sad sight... just low on rzrs lol

Thats gonna be one expensive mistake if you don't find it. Better get a skinny flashlight magnet. It'll be a life saver.
man, that sucks. i hate to say it, but if you can't find it anywhere in the engine bay or top of trans or on a suspension arm, you're going to need to pull the tappet cover & check if it's in there.... you do not want to start that thing with a keeper floating around inside the valvetrain... best of luck!

matthew moult for sure! That’s what we plan on!
Any diesel performance shops around you? Or a shop that works on a lot of Cummins or diesel trucks? Call a salvage yard or something surely you could scrounge one up.
Cody Meyer I’ve ordered them now... but I even called CUMMINS! They said they would have to special order it.... I couldn’t believe that...
If you ever run into that again try Case IH, they used the 5.9 12v in Maxxum Tractors. Engine parts like the valve retainers should be the same, at least it would give you another option.
Go to the junkyard and get one!!!!
Are you even using a feeler gauge to gap the rocker arms properly?
How far away do you live from Rochester indiana and you are my go to channel to watch when I am bored.
That really sucks man #LoudNProudNation #LNPFam
It’s in the engine bay somewhere.

Nice way to make another video tomorrow and keeping subscribers watching to see what happen lol
I have a bunch laying around and I'm not too far, want me to bring ya a couple?
HorsepowerTube how close? But I contacted the company I ordered them from and told them 5-15 days won’t cut it. So they said they will get them here in 3.
LOUD 'N' PROUD email me horsepowertube@gmail.com
Get a air comrpessor and blow air around that spot so it can maybe hit the ground
You be better off calling to order. Typically on a small part like that the company's shipping department will help you out.
Take one out of the dually truck?
Get a leaf blower and run it above and under the engine. It’s bound to hit the floor after that.
It happens man, I have dropped nuts/bolts when working on stuff too. God Bless Man!
Use a air compressor and try to blow it out on the floor
Have any of those stickers in black?
Keep your head up, just a rough day, you are doing great.
Get an inspection camera and make sure it didn't fall into the engine, could cause some pretty expensive damage to the engine if you run it.
Get a small telescoping magnet and run through the engine compartment with it.
Push the truck forward and reverse and check under those wide ass tires. You never know crazier shit has happened
Dude first step walk away from it. Start fresh tmrw, with a clean thought. Get ur light and look really good first. Then try the magnet in all the little hiding places. Tony Montana lol been there done that !!!
Left Lane Diesels what's going on my man ?!?!?
Damn that sucks I have a bunch of them little things laying around. I’ll mail ya one lol
Lol I found a pack of 32 valve keepers/lockers same thing ya lost for 13 bucks with free shipping
Shawn Jones how? Where? Chinese part?
Or after hours diesel in Tampa,Florida he might have some
Roll your engine over to get that piston at tdc so when the air goes out your valves wont fall down into the cylinder.
Don't feel bad even the best make mistakes
Try Napa they usually carry all kinds of engine components
Ya done jinxed it! lol everybody does it
Junkyard time
always hick ups in builds just have to push on and get it done. great content been watching sense 2k subs 👍
You should see if dollar shave club would sponsor one of your videos. That have done TH-camrs before
If anything, just go to junk yard and get one there
You could pull one out of the first Gen. if it’s at tdc you could take pressure off and drop the valve on the piston. You just need to lift the valve back up after then pressure it up. Pain in the arse but it is possible. Or just wait for parts. What about fleece? They build heads and might have a bin of old ones.
magnet bro that is what u beed it helps
Dang that sucks. Keep your head up it happens.
Love the video
use a magnet
Try a junk yard? Might have some luck.
Kiere chillar, kiere chillar 😢
Drop something else the same size and same area and see where it goes
You can find it,get a little magnet, mirror on a stick and a good flashlight.i bet it is hung up on the side of the engine somewhere.
love watching the vids keep up the good work
U order it then u will find it
Pay your little brother 10 bucks ...see if he can find it
You like to plug more than you use your plug in for your truck 😂 all in good fun man keep up the good work
If it’s a stock keeper hit the junkyard
just amazon prime it lol
Lane Blount if they had it I would...
Try and contact the youtuber Greg a bet he can help you find one
Honestly thought you dropped a valve I think you’re fine probably just fell in that mess of wires wouldn’t worry I would just get a new keeper
Keep your head up brother, it happens, even to pros, dont sweat it
Try a junk yard
what is the song
get a magnet and start fishing. if you don't find it , try a local machine shop.
Love your videos keep your head up could have been worse could have striped out a stud or something
Magnet
Get a air compressor and blow by the area you dropped it. It should fall on the ground
thanks for the video!! how long til the first drive?
I dropped a 10mm socket in the engine bay once and lost it. Looked all over for it couldn't see it
Take your air hose and try to blow around the the drivers side of the motor in small burst and then listen for something to hit the ground
Get your air blower out and just blew off that whole area
Use rockauto.com they have them with cheap shipping
eBay
Get a small diameter pencil style magnet and poke it around. Or call a machine shop that does cumins heads they probably have bad heads you can rob one off
Call your local junk yard.
Drag a magnet around where u heard it
I got one you could have I’m not to far from you
if he didn't get back to you drop him a message on instagram or snapchat im sure he would be happy to keep building
Don’t beat yourself up bro it happens to the best of us !!!!! That’s how you learn.
Ryan Cadwallader thanks man... it’s been bothering me all day!.... I was doing so well and so close to finishing everything.... then one tiny hiccup stops everything ☹️😒
pick it up at the store..
Order extra just in case!!!!!
👍🏽
Well look at it this way, it could be worse! You could broke a head stud or stripped a bolt lol
Look on amazon for that part
Fleece performance
the notifications for youtube actually worked today
I got one want me to send it to you
Try a wrecking yard near you or an engine builder.
It happens
go to your local junk yard bro
Rodney Sprouse agreed
Rodney Sprouse what would be the point could ruin the motor he takes it off of by dropping the valve also when do junkyards ever carry cummins 😂
Not to many junk yards have 12 valves laying around lol. They're usually gone right as they arrive
ya my friend. don't be popping the beer open (or soda) just yet and be celebrating. Everything can go wrong at the last minute.
If u need more stickers lemme know
