  • The annual Whit Friday March Contests again drew the crowds a on a dry May evening with bands performing a good selection of traditional marches.
We start in Uppermill, Saddleworth on a high with Brighouse & Rastrick and Royal Trophy on the road and Knight Templar on the stand, winning the contest off number one! Boarshurst on the road with Arnhem, a brief snippet of Langley with We like to Party on the road then Bramwyn on the stand.
We then move a mile down the road to Greenfield with performances on the stand by Oldham - Knight Templar, Friezland - One of the Best (Rimmer), Bodmin - The Wizard, Comber Silver - The Australasian and Salvo Brass - Praise.
On the road we see the British Army Band (Catterick) playing Guard's Armoured Division, then Ravenswood on the stand, Middleton Band on the road with On the Quarterdeck then Viva Birkinshaw on the stand and finally on the stand, 2nd Rossendale Scout Group with Castell Caerphilly.
    Enjoy!
Thanks to those who came up with the march that the British Army Band played on the road, hadn't a clue but there's always someone who has, much appreciated!

Certainly right over Comber Silver and good to see a few more bands than usual up from Cornwall too. Thanks for the info on the march, just edited it!

@@MilitaryBandsSouthWestUK I've spent to long around brass bands and not millitary bands!!! Appreciate the comment and it's suitably edited!!

Note that this is a military band formed as a brass band. This is unusual. The only other I've seen is the band of the New Zealand army. Sorry if I was stating the obvious! I'm also used to military bands...that is with woodwind. But the quality of musicianship is outstanding.

@@daviddrake3504 Must admit David that I'm fairly ignorant when it comes to military marches, except possibly Kenneth Alford. When you hear a good band of any persuasion playing On the Quarterdeck with a bit of swagger..... superb!
