Stephen: And maybe in the next 5 years, we will have a new edition. Mal: A new cat? Stephen: No, Mal. A baby, I'm talking about a baby! "StephenVlog: Vlogable Moment"! :)
I swear you guys are so great :) You get along so well and you laugh about alot of stuff together! I am so glad I have been subscribed to the channels for over a year now!! Thanks for everything you both do for us viewers!!
Haha, this was a really fun Q&A to watch! Thanks for answering my question. When typing my question and listening to your response, I definitely thought about why I've had only intermittent interest in actually putting up gaming videos myself. The major barrier to entry used to be, as you said, technical and legal unknowns. Nowadays it's better understood which games are accessible for monetization, and it's easy to purchase and set up recording equipment... but now a big barrier to entry is figuring out how to carve a niche in what's become a booming business. I can see why the low-hanging fruit of frequent, day-one Let's Plays is appealing. None of those barriers has terribly appealed to me as a challenge to overcome, yet I still think it would be fun to make videos sometimes. I just hope there's still a place for that on TH-cam. :P I agree with Mal, you've broken more ground than you think. :)
One of the reasons I love your channel so much is that you don't do the "cut-out" stuff that everyone else does on TH-cam. I think that's what makes people stay subscribed to you, and I thank you for providing coverage of various different games in many different ways instead of just face camming every horror game out there. It's much appreciated! Also here's a question: Would you ever consider doing a Let's Play for the new Star Fox game that's staged to come out in 2015 for Wii U? Or any Star Fox game other than 64 since I know that's already on your "maybe someday" list. :)
This question applies more to when you guys were dating but it could also apply to now too. Has jealousy or insecurity ever been an issue in your relationship?
It's a very enjoyable show I agree. I do notice hiccups here and there but there are very few in volume 2 which shows how the show improved during the phase between volumes 1 and 2 and the growth of Rooster Teeth as a company.
Another question! Are there any videos you made pre-StephenVlog/StephenPlays that you're ashamed of? Any that you kinda shy away from when you mention your previous content?
Interesting question since the most recent tabletop game showed on the Vlog is Pathfinder: You've covered a lot of tabletop games on the Vlog before, from Magic to Catan to Bananagrams to even Pathfinder as of recent. Has there been a tabletop game that you have deemed as your favorite tabletop game to play of all time, regardless of the type of tabletop game, and if so, what is it and why?
I want to say in response to your rant about Mal's students: some kids just don't give a crap about school. It's unfortunate, and it's frustrating, but it's a fact. My main point, though, is that it doesn't necessarily mean they're spoiled or entitled or lazy. I know this, because I was one of them. Even into college, I couldn't bring myself to get motivated about academics (which is mostly why I ended up dropping out, along with financial reasons). Don't get me wrong, I love learning, and I can retain information very well (tests were never a problem for me), but I prefer doing it my own way -- and so I always struggled immensely with getting assignments done. And I don't think I'm lazy. When I'm passionate about something, I kick its ass, and at 25 years old, I work my ass off every day to take care of myself, with no help from anyone. Sure, I'm paying now in a lot of ways for my lack of motivation towards school, but I accept that reality. So it bothers me when I see people write off kids who are like I was as "lazy". It may be that standard education just doesn't work for some people. They can't get passionate about it. They're wired differently. Don't vilify them for that.
Sethorin I agree with what you say, actually. Mal and I have had frequent discussions about the problems with our education system, often focusing on students who, as you say, are "wired differently". In high school, I just couldn't grasp the higher mathematics. I couldn't do it. I had it explained to me a million different ways from a million different people and it just wouldn't click. The difference in how I handled the situation and how many of Mal's students handle the situation is that I tried. I attempted the problems, I tried to learn. These students don't. They don't even put pen to paper, they ignore what Mal has to say, and they disrespect her. To me, that makes them lazy. There's a lot more to say, but I don't want to put Mal's job in any sort of risk. To your credit, this wasn't explained in the video. I feel like there's a huge difference between being unmotivated by academics and being lazy. From many of the stories I hear, too many often fall into the latter category. I do hope that in the future education can change drastically, though. I feel there would be far more "high school success stories" if we stopped shoving traditional education down everyone's throats and allowed students more freedom, IE: less academic, more vocational.
StephenVlog I agree with you 100%. And I should have said that in some of the cases you mentioned, like when a student disrespects his/her teacher or expects grades that he/she didn't earn, I have no argument. That's just pure entitlement/laziness, and I totally share your anger towards that. The thing you said that bothered me enough to write a comment was "Just do it! Just do the work!" as if it's that simple. It may be for us, now that we're adults, but it's unrealistic to expect kids/teens who aren't passionate about school to see the long-term value of it and use that as motivation. A lot of kids just aren't mature enough to do that. I sure wasn't. That being said, I was never disrespectful, and I never once complained about the grades I got, even when I failed a class for doing none of the work (which happened embarrassingly often). And I guess at some point I became self-righteous about it, because teachers would get so angry with me, and I didn't think it was any of their business. I figured I should get credit for not complaining or acting out, at least enough to be left alone about it. I see now of course why they were so frustrated with me -- "wasted potential" is a phrase I heard so often growing up that I still have a deep-seeded emotional reaction whenever I hear it -- but I couldn't see it then, or I didn't care.
would you ever consider making a memorable moments for the vlog? i know theres an abridged version of the journey consisting the notable days but theres tonnes of tiny moments of the vlog that are just so friggen hilarious (such as any time alex makes an apperance, or when he was shouting "BIRDS BIRDS BIRDS" like one of the crazy homeless people you would see in a big city like new york or toronto.)
This is probably going to pinpoint me as a major geek but: Stephen and Mal, have either of you ever read fanfiction? If so, which fandoms have you read and if you haven't, would you be willing to try?
Stephen, how do you feel about Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind? After putting over 200 hours into Skyrim, I decided to try giving Morrowind a whirl, and it's been a very different experience that I have really come to enjoy after spending a lot of time figuring out how the game works. How do you feel about how the Elder Scrolls has changed over the years?
Since, by the time of the next Q&A, you'll have reached the end of the 5th year of vlogging, what do you think (unintentional day 451 reference) made it last this long?
As a fellow let's player, I have a question regarding doing certain games. Does whether or not a developer is against or for their games being monetized affect whether you do the games or not? For example, last year I played Injustice but because it was a Warner Bros game, it couldn't be monetized at all.
You 100%ed skyrim ? Well done, you did better than another let's player I know who's still at it, and he doesn't look close to finishing it anytime soon.
For Mal: Is taking an Art class in your school(for the students) required, or a part of a general class requirement, or is it purely an elective? For my school, I'm a band student, and pretty much all art classes are during 2nd period, which is the periods where our bands and choirs rehearse, so I've never taken an Art class in my High School career...just wondering!
How would you feel about making a bit of Call of Duty content? I don't mean a Let's Play or a longer process, but just a video or two, or maybe a stream that's similar to how you handled The Binding of Isaac? I would immensely enjoy you figuring out how to play it again and it would please me, as a CoD fan, to have a bit of CoD content from my favorite content creator!
This is for both stephen and mal, stephen, would you let mal post some of her childhood videos like you did or be in charge for one day of stephenvlogs? Mal, if given this opportunity would you do it?
Oh man I love you guys, this Q and A was the best xD. Ok I have a question for Mal (Stephen too I guess). Do you like the theory side of art. I'm an art student now finishing up my final assessments for this year (I'm in the land down under and i'm in year 10 so it's pretty major right now D: ) and my art one is about the theory side. Like I think it's cool how we learn about how other artists do their work. But at the same time it's really kinda boring. So when you teach it Mal how do you approach the topic (My teach makes it really boring) and what do you/Stephen think about it. Like do you like it or get annoyed at how you have to learn how others do their art rather than being able to work on your own style. (Sorry if this question is really confusing, first time for putting a question down for something in a while).
Hi Stephen! I started to watch some of your old videos, and noticed ( in Day 972, Goodbye Columbia) when mal was taking apart of the bed that she has something on her back. Is it a tattoo or a part of her shirt? Just wondering! Thanks!
Mal, being that I am a Junior in high school I have been thinking about college. I have been thinking about looking into UW-Stout. Would you recommend in based on your experience there?
Will you ever do a kingdom hearts game? (Note: I would not recommend doing a first 20 unless if you make it like a first 200 bc the beginning of the game is... Strange.
Hi Stephen and Mal, I have two questions. If 10 year old Stephen saw your videos (but recognized 25 year old Stephen as a different person and not a future version of himself), what do you think he would have thought? Also, what is your favorite LP that you have done so far (if it is too hard to decide that pick your top 5)? :D
On the topic of Starmen being enemies and assist trophies in SSB4, I have a weird inclusion to say. I always pictured the Starmen to be Giegue's race in some sort of armor, like I suppose how humans need space suits to go into space, which would also give them full mobility, like being able to move their legs and stuff. It was really jarring for me to knock one down in Smash Run and it would kind of fall over as if it was a statue. Still, this is the best MOTHER representation in Smash history, I absolutely LOVE Magicant and all of its references!
My questions is Mal and Stephen I'm a freshman in college right now. It's not as bad as high school but i get very very anxious in class and it gives me tummy aches. Were there any ways that you got over your initial anxiety through the first and second semester?
You don't have to put this on the vlog, but would you consider a Pikmen LP or a Kid Icarus Uprising LP? Those are some of my fav games, and I feel like they would really go well with your commentating style.
When you guys do LittleBigPlanet 3 (if this is read before the game is released), do you intend on doing community levels? It'd be interesting to see you guys play subscriber levels. :)
***** I asked this question before and Stephen responded with "I don't think a Little Big Planet LP would be complete without the amazing costume content."
Eight days before Stephen proposed to Mal (Day 234), there was a vlog about the anklet breaking (Day 226), where Stephen mentioned that he found it was symbolic, thinking of it as a new phase in the relationship. Stephen, did you knew you'd propose shortly after the day the anklet happened to broke, and was that the reason behind that remark?
LopsidedPasta It's a joke. An equivalent to that would be to say that athletes get paid to run around. Technically, a correct description, but doesn't include important aspects.
LopsidedPasta I see where you're coming from. It's near impossibe to portray sacasm through words alone, unless it is said outright that it is sarcastic. I understand that these videos take hours, and sometimes even days of work to complete, which is why I support TH-camrs such as Stephen, because, for many of them, it is their main source of income. I support some even more so, because, as Stephen talked about while answering the second to last question, they don't do things that other popular TH-camrs do, just for the extra views and subscribers, but they actually produce content that they believe their viewers will legitimately enjoy, and they do so consistantly, pouring all of their effort into it. But that's enough ranting from me.
Also another question: would you ever quit an LP of a game for any reason (e.g the game is brokenly unplayable, you just hate it and aren't enjoying etc.)
At 22:55, The sheer amount of emotions that ran across Mal's face, was almost priceless.
Stephen: And maybe in the next 5 years, we will have a new edition.
Mal: A new cat?
Stephen: No, Mal. A baby, I'm talking about a baby!
"StephenVlog: Vlogable Moment"! :)
Has Mal ever been recognized by a fan that was in one of her classes?
That icon is so seductive!
Oh! Mal's hair looks really pretty!
heres to 500 years of stephenvlog :D
Oh my goodness! I've only been watching you guys for about six months, but this news is exciting!
I swear you guys are so great :) You get along so well and you laugh about alot of stuff together! I am so glad I have been subscribed to the channels for over a year now!! Thanks for everything you both do for us viewers!!
If you only could choose one, would you pick Stephenvlogs or Stephenplays?
What was your fondest New Year celebration?
One of the reasons you are my favorite LPer is because you play what you want instead of whatever everyone else does.
Haha, this was a really fun Q&A to watch! Thanks for answering my question.
When typing my question and listening to your response, I definitely thought about why I've had only intermittent interest in actually putting up gaming videos myself. Thanks for answering my question guys! Stephen I am very impressed with your pronunciation of my last name, you actually got it on the first try XD
That slapping moment should end up in the fan favorites. I'll edit in time codes later
Completely agree. With the ending, as well. :P
One of the reasons I love your channel so much is that you don't do the "cut-out" stuff that everyone else does on TH-cam. What is the rudest comment either of you have received, either in real life or on the internet, and how did you handle it?
This question applies more to when you guys were dating but it could also apply to now too. Has jealousy or insecurity ever been an issue in your relationship?
If Chugga was going to get married, and asked you to film it on the vlog, would you?
Have consoles ever broken for you?
Have you ever had a powerless for anything?
How can you fit a bunch of systems on to one or two tvs?
When you first started the vlog, were you hesitant to put yourself out there for the world to see, or were you not nervous at all?
Mal, what was it that "attracted" you to Stephen when you first saw him on starmen or on his forums?
Love your haircut, Mal!
I actually am a really big fan of Mega Man, and would be happy to see you let's play any Mega Man game. :)
Mal, have some of your students ever tried to add you on Xbox live or PSN. If not do you ever mention the Channel at all.
Have either you or Mal seen RWBY (pronounced as Ruby) by RoosterTeeth?
It's a very enjoyable show I agree. I do notice hiccups here and there but there are very few in volume 2 which shows how the show improved during the phase between volumes 1 and 2 and the growth of Rooster Teeth as a company.

Do any of your students know what stephan does
Haha, you guys are awesome :-) Keep up the good work!
If you were forced to give up one, would you give up the vlog or the gaming channel?
What games would you like to lp the most?
Do you snowboard or ski? or would like to learn to snowboard or ski?
How do you decide which LP's to do next?
Stephen and Mal, what're your favorite holidays, and why?
Another question I have is what is one thing you want the most for Christmas this year?
would you ever consider making a memorable moments for the vlog? i know theres an abridged version of the journey consisting the notable days but theres tonnes of tiny moments of the vlog that are just so friggen hilarious (such as any time alex makes an apperance, or when he was shouting "BIRDS BIRDS BIRDS" like one of the crazy homeless people you would see in a big city like new york or toronto.)

oh ya, derp XD

Can you do unboxings of games you get on stephenplays?
Stephen would you and your friends ever consider playing rockband on the stephenplays channel for Saturday content?
When could we expect more Stephen vs. Mal pokemon battles?
I just played through Earthbound again and I want to ask you guys this: What actually made you buy the game as a kid?
Since, by the time of the next Q&A, you'll have reached the end of the 5th year of vlogging, what do you think (unintentional day 451 reference) made it last this long?

For example, last year I played Injustice but because it was a Warner Bros game, it couldn't be monetized at all.
Mal, Have you ever thought to have Stephen come to your class and have him see what you do?
What do you think of some let's players getting advance copy's of games when others have to wait till they are released?
Will you go to international conventions in the near future? For example, ConBravo in Canada like TheRunawayGuys did.
Stephen, on your trip to San Francisco. Which youtubers did you get to meet?
you guys are a perfect couple.
What do you feel about lucas not being in the game? Do you think he will be a dlc character? How was playing ness like since he's also my main?
Your new hair looks nice, Mal.
How did you feel when you finally finished all the mother titles.
You 100%ed skyrim ? Well done, you did better than another let's player I know who's still at it, and he doesn't look close to finishing it anytime soon.
This is more of a opinion question, I plan on going to college soon what university's would you both recommend?
Are you going to have a mail video before Christmas?? I don't know when to send a letter!
Also if you ever did have children, what would you name them?
For Mal: Is taking an Art class in your school(for the students) required, or a part of a general class requirement, or is it purely an elective? Could Stephen ever substitute for mal's class
Anyone could actually sub for a class if you graduated high school
Morgan Siver lol definitely not true.
Morgan Siver really that seems strange
In Minnesota, you need a teacher's license (4 years of college and student teaching). I don't know the laws in SC.

Thoughts on Retsupae. Would you care if one of your videos was featured on it?
Strange.
How do u organize ur raw vlogs and finished vlogs?
Hey Stephen, where did you get the inspiration for Sagan and Kepler's name?
Hi Stephen and Mal, I have two questions. Question for mal. How did you feel when stephen said he love you?
Do your families have any christmas taditions?
Have you ever played any of the ace attorney games?
Also did mal get a haircut?
What would you say has been your favorite game to Let's Play so far?
Were you guys ever bullied in school and what group were you in (popular, normal, ect.) ?
When do you guys plan on releasing Ico?
Probably in 5 years when they have their first baby.
what is that music in the background?
Will you ever do another pokemon game?
On the topic of Starmen being enemies and assist trophies in SSB4, I have a weird inclusion to say. I always pictured the Starmen to be Giegue's race in some sort of armor, like I suppose how humans need space suits to go into space, which would also give them full mobility, like being able to move their legs and stuff. It was really jarring for me to knock one down in Smash Run and it would kind of fall over as if it was a statue. They did community levels in lbp2, so I wouldn't be surprised if they did the same thing for lbp3 :)

I asked this question before and Stephen responded with "I don't think a Little Big Planet LP would be complete without the amazing costume content."
Ninten866
"Custom content."
Ninten866 Well the costumes are pretty amazing....
I've been listening to comedians, lately, on my phone, while I'm at work. So, I'm curious, do either of you have a favorite comedian you like?
In the next 5 years? Well, if that's true, we should expect a baby Stephen or Mal next year!
Are we ever gonna see Ian on the vlog?
Eight days before Stephen proposed to Mal (Day 234), there was a vlog about the anklet breaking (Day 226), where Stephen mentioned that he found it was symbolic, thinking of it as a new phase in the relationship. What are your thoughts on the Sonic spin-off, Sonic Boom?
21:20 Accurate description of Stephen's job: He sits at home, plays video games, and records cats and food... which he gets paid for.
that's a pretty condescending thing to say. You know how hard he works
LopsidedPasta It's a joke. An equivalent to that would be to say that athletes get paid to run around. Technically, a correct description, but doesn't include important aspects.
***** It's just that people give professional youtubers so much shit for how they earn money, it sounds like you are more serious than you are
LopsidedPasta I see where you're coming from.
If you never met the Mother/Earthbound series, what do you think your most favorite game would be?
What were some things that your roommates did that drove you crazy?
Stephen, would you ever let Mal (if she would want to) do a solo Let's Play on the StephenPlays channel?
Also another question: would you ever quit an LP of a game for any reason (e.g the game is brokenly unplayable, you just hate it and aren't enjoying etc.)
