I love this scene. all of the camp and silliness just stops for a moment as the klown delivers a legitimately terrifying declaration of their commitment to nothing but slaughtering people. Its a brilliant subversion of expectations and tone, and unironically scary.

I love this just so creepy and creative
There's a couple of scenes in the movie as terrifying as this. Them walking through the streets looking silly and ridiculous but collecting human bodies and killing everyone. When they are in the house trying to put the girl in a comically large balloon so she can suffocate. By coincidence she got lucky and only got put in a balloon to be rescued from while others got the cotton candy cocoons. LOL. Like three of them show up and she tries to escape out the window only to find they are waiting below blocking her escape as well. Absolutely terrifying to have several of them right in her house.
This is why this is one of my favorite cult classics. It is completely absurd and hilariously ridiculous and pokes fun at people being scared of clowns but it is also a legitimately good creepy movie at times that is terrifying. It's the perfect mix of silly but scary.
And surprisingly Jumbo features on most of these type of scenes, like the one on the restaurant
and yet.. it's the kind of humor you would expect from a klown.
This scene makes Mooney's line earlier in the movie of "They might make a dummy out of you, but they are NOT gonna make a dummy out of ME" eerily prophetic.

NastyNate san very easy storytelling..... sometimes I feel like it was very overused in the Gotham series that was on Fox.
Just foreshadowing. They use it all the time in movies, TV shows, storytelling, and etc.
A lot of people associate the actions of Jumbo here for the species as a whole but I think each Klown has their own personality and Jumbo is the most demented and sick out of all of them as evident by the fact that some Klowns consume humans through the cotton candy cocoons while Jumbo didn't even care about cocoons as he leaves them behind and just straight slaughtered people and left bodies everywhere he went.
Rudy seemed the most chill. His actions at the drug store seemed to indicate he was more curious about humans than his brothers.
thats what i love, they all have their own personalities, characteristics, Jumbo is definitely 100% the most twisted one, Slim is my favorite tho for some reason

NOPE! The Klowns absolutely know that they look terrifying and menacing to us, and in this scene they confirm that they're sadists and just want to kill us.

I think some parts were meant to be comedic but I think in some scenes they were going for truly scary

That's kinda what makes it the perfect schlock horror movie. Absolute silly nonsense mixed with legitimately terrifying and disturbing scenes. I'd compare it to Slither in that way
Notice that "puppet" Mooney isn't breathing, because he's just a corpse? And that you can hear the clown throwing it's voice under Mooney's.
These little touches in this scene is what makes it even more surreal of a horror.

As goofy and as "80's" as rest of this movie is, this scene is just absolute horror perfection. The atmosphere, the music, the pacing and the tension is all masterfully done.

1:00 the way the clown just pushes the desks to the side and the bullets just slightly pushes him back, it's almost like an unstoppable monster.

I used to think this was the scariest thing ever.
Also this is a cult classic and one of the most beloved B horror movies of all time. Wouldn't it be nice to get a sequel that had genuine effort put into it like this one.

That clown was about to put in work on that officer, lucky for him that he shot him in the nose.
I always thought that it was probably best this clown was killed early. Because I have a feeling if he were to have lived long enough in the movie he could’ve done some severe damage. This clown in particular was definitely more psychopathic than the others. The others sorta were quirky with the things they did. Him in specific seemed to really enjoy being scary and unsettling.
Not to mention he only had one cotton candy kill…He was planning on killing that little girl earlier with sledge hammer, and the he killed the cop and used his corpse to toy with Dave..
I'd argue that Slim (the shadow puppet klown) was potentially even more destructive, as his tricks could kill masses of people in a single attack.
I also got the sense that he was the oldest, like the patriarch.
This is the same clown who had intended to mash a little girl into mush with a giant mallet when he was luring her out of the fast food restaurant.
I still love that in the middle of this super fun and silly b-movie is this legitimately unnerving scene.
The film has that clowny vibe but at the same time it has these creepy moments. This scene was really well executed. And noticed how they cared about the proper lighting with shades to make the scene smartly eerie.
This and the scene where the clown tries to lure the child outside were by far, the creepiest in the movie. Every other thing is goofy and over the top. Yeah, being able to control Moony's face and while gripping what must have been the spine is somewhat silly, what the clown has him say is not.

that's pretty clever that the way to kill these monsters is by popping their noses
it's also funny that their kill switch is their nose, AKA a very visible part of their body
İf you think it this way you can enjoy none of those zombie movies if you shot a zombie in the head it will die off too and sometimes their brains are clearly visible also possibly those aliens underrasstimated human weaponry

It Pretty easy to kill these clowns just shoot their noses and that’s there invisible part of their body’s and you can shot them in head to.
I believe their was a hint about the nose being their weak spot earlier in the film when that one biker tried to tweak Shorty's nose, little klown nearly twisted the big guys hand
So whacked out how the Klown was able to control the cop's entire voice and mannerisms just by having his hand through his back and up his spine. Creative and gruesome
This is easily the scariest and most unnerving scene of the movie. It's crazy how all the goofy antics and hijinks come to a screeching halt for this one scene, just to show you how cold and dangerous these Klowns really are.

Like how this scene completely reminds the viewer what the protagonist are really up against. These surreal unremorseful monsters that sees humans nothing, but little play things to break and devour.

Great scene. Very different tone from the rest of the film. I loved it. I love the way the music stops when he takes his hand out, then it’s just this high pitched tone into a deep tone. Super creepy

Fun fact: The "spinning death" effect was later re-used as the death effect for the trolls in "Ernest Scared Stupid". And another fun fact: Some of the clowns in this movie were remodeled into troll suits for ESS, as well.

The whole movie was funny and then there's this scene. It's delivered so perfectly that it's genuinely terrifying whe. He delivers that line "All we want to do is kill you".

The entire scene from when dave gets to the police station covered in footprints and investigates the cells with the cocoons and then this puppet scene all makes an amazing and truly terrifying segment and the creepy music is the cherry on top.

This scene and the jail cell scene scared me the most out of the whole movie, I personally love clowns and think some of the clowns are cute, but idk about this one clown he seemed to be the most sinister in the whole movie. Just with his facial expressions alone are so creepy let alone the moment he did the slow luring of the child in the restaurant. It was a pretty good movie considering it was a B rated movie and during a time when computer graphics were almost non exsistant how did they make the faces move and some of the clown spiral effects?
There was something very sinister about this clown, and also let's not forget this was the first clown we saw in the movie, when he killed the old man and his dog in the beginning.

This scene almost makes you forget that this movie is for the most part a comedy.
Best B movie of all time. I honestly say that with all the love in the world... For such a ridiculous movie and premise, the filmmakers actually know how to tell a story, create some suspense, do some badass makeup, design all the crazy circus themed sets, and make the most out of their small budget, while never taking themselves too seriously. Even one of the filmmakers themselves referred to the movie as a B movie while talking about the shadow puppet scene.
The directors, whom were actual brothers in real life (and, I believe, of which the Terenzi Brothers in the film were likely self-inserts poking fun at themselves) were real DIYs having built the Klown Paraphernalia (weapons, props) themselves.

Which is saying alot considering that this movie's a goofy horror comedy that's played for laughs! The Klowns may be laughably evil but they're still dangerous and menacing to the human characters no matter how goofy-looking they are!

That scene was creepy.
Bro these klowns. They can make a corpse talk with their hand, turn you into cotton candy and drink you, shoot parasitic popcorn, eat you with a shadow puppet, acidic pies, and trap you in a balloon (for some reason). What else is there? Have a giant Dr Seuss inspired machine to collect the cocoons. This movie is pretty terrifying.
This scene is very creepy and disturbing the choir music, jumbo throwing things around with one hand, and Dave shooting him
I grew up with this movie, saw it on HBO when it first came out. I'm still loving this movie always will. But let me tell you this particular scene even when I was a kid watching this.. The evil ventriloquist and blood splat off the Klowns hand. The eerie music at 58sec... Still ...I can't look away

Notice that he did t say anything about exploding the noses to kill them over the radio on the off chance that the other guy on the other end was being ventriloquized as well. Unless that part came right after the clip ended. If not I say good thinking ahead to not tip the aliens off.
A lot of people are known to have phobia issues with ventriloquist dummies. But in a dark and messed-up way, using human corpses as ventriloquist dummies make it seem quite funny.

In the beginning of the movie, Officer Mooney foreshadowed this when he told Officer Hanson that those reporting the clowns wouldn't "make a dummy out of him."
Reminds me of the scene in Independence Day when the Alien has control of the scientist while telling the President to die.

One of the Chiodo brothers said on interview that he imagined the Klowns being in reality a race of "slugs" that evolved clown-like features. I think Jumbo's death scene indicates that they are in reality artificial or energy-based life-forms.
