Yes, my van did come with a centre console. However, it is essentially just a big tray. As well, the mechanism underneath it, which allows folding, also obstructs the area so you can’t really make good use of the space underneath.
I designed a box to fit the space, which had more storage, and took up less space.
I still have four cupholders, but I also have a dedicated spot for a kleenex box. Also two spots for sunglasses or cellphones. A deep storage bay. A spot for CDs or maps, and a big opening in the back for more.
This is kind of a special purpose project, but I hope you find at least some parts of it interesting.

I was just asked to make a console for a van from a client that I recently made a van storage box for. Lots of good ideas here.
For the same reason, this is on my to-do list. I was thinking a Velcro bottom so I could move it out of the way easily and it would stay in place too. I want to be able to move it easily for when I move from back to front and front to back. It is a real pain moving with the current console.
Very nice! Just what I need for my RV console. I like the painted finish. Much better than the padded overstuffed look of commercial consoles. This has crisp edges and looks light and clean. You may want to add some paracord or wood strips in the back section to hold in some maps.
What a great idea for your van/car, and much better than the old one.

Nice :) Once made a tray for the van of my gliding club to hold the batteries (connected to the charger) and books (with legal documents) of all three gliders. That way they had a decent spot to go (easier to put it back) and it was easy to check if something was missing before you drove off.
Nicely built! I love it. All those custom spaces for each item keeps it so organized. I wish you had shown us more on how you built it, the inner layout and joinery. I also liked the red top, too bad you painted that grey. Very functional little box. Thank you.
fyi - Close ups of project are much better than distance shots. We don't need all of you in the frame, just your voice. I wanted to see that box from all angles, esp inside. Let the camera do the talking.

I had a Montana with that style console. Hated that shallow tray Every time I'd go around a sharp corner or hit a harder than normal stop, everything went flying. Replace mine with a better option too, but it was just a folding canvas box. I like your model better .

Well done Sir! But what about LEDs? Since you did spent a lot of labour to build it, why not having some (dimmable) LEDs in a nice warm red/orange/warm-white tone?
Unfortunately my car does not allow me to built one since it is too narrow.
Looks great, nice to improve on your van like that. The only thing I could think to add, and it may be regional, is a place to hold the parking pass that I get from the parking machine, and or the ticket thing you get when you enter an express way that you have to give to the machine when you exit the expressway, some sort of clip that just holds it so you can easily grab it later. Alos could you have wired in two charging wires for the phones, or better yet build in say 4 USB port on some surface? Just trying to make more work for you, I mean what are friends for? LOL

Nice. I cant do that in my car because the console also holds the built in phone handle. Yes, i drive a 1500kg mobile phone ;)
Everyone said I was daft for setting up a cnc machine in a swamp but I set it up all the same just to show 'em. It sank into the swamp. So I set up another one. That sank into the swamp. So I set up a third one. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. The fourth one stayed up, but the carriage hit a clamp and ruined the workpiece But the fifth one came out perfectly.
I think I've been insulted, but I'm not sure. Let's try four more times to find out for sure...

Great video. I am thinking of making something similar but I don't have a CNC, did you buy that or build it? Where would someone get the software to use one if they bought one or built one? Thank you.
I have an older underpowered Xcarve CNC. It was a kit from Instructables. They sell a much better unit now! The software came with it. The CNC is nice, but you could easily build this without it. It is nice how it makes such clean cuts, though!

Hi there, great project, just a quick question what CNC machine do you have?
I have a first-gen Xcarve from Inventables. Their newer machines are hopefully better.
I like the project but the white color freaks me out.
It works really well for the interior, makes it easier to see.
