Yep! In fact, Slash has played several BC Rich guitars over the years, but that Mockingbird he played on the UYI Live in Tokyo video was most likely a late 80's model.
Damn it you took my comment! As soon as he started talking about the mid-2000's, I thought, wait a second I've always wanted one because of the 'you could be mine' video back in the day.
Don't know why I was recommended this video a year after I first commented, but I just want to add something. The video he references is actually a video from the UYI tour. He seems to think that the video, just because it was uploaded in 2006, was from the same year it was uploaded, when in fact the footage has got to be at least 14 years old at the time of upload.
there was a more official unofficial Slash one - a USA made called the "SL" from a few years after the ST I'm sure, but Slash's original was a 1980 that he bought off a guy outside a club shortly before the Illusions tour - it had a Kahler in '91 and a Floyd Rose by '92
@@Nghilifa Probably contractual reasons is my thinking - would have loved to see the ST's be closer to his, love mine all the same but the quilt top and closer spacing of the ebony stripes is a little annoying haha (also mines is dragons blood instead of red, didn't realise they were different colours til after I bought it) also means theres near enough no chance of getting a signature green 10 string Bich too which I am currently obsessing over lol
Mine looks exactly the same minus the neck through rosewood(?) going through the front. Although mines still a neck through, it doesn't have the different woods. Anyone know what model that may be?
That first white Mockingbird of yours is total perfection. The finish, the clear neck, the Kahler. Only thing I'd like different would be cloud inlays but it's a total beauty.
For anyone that don't know ST stands for Slash Tophat, I have one, awesome guitar, Slash actually played one way earlier than 06, he's playing one in the You Could Be Mine video, then eventually brought out the ST as an unofficial signature due to his contract with Gibson
When I was a kid player, 40 years ago maybe, a Mockingbird or a Bitch was the "gotta have" goal!! Beat strats & SG's was usually what the wallet said... Nice collection bud, horns up!!
I wanted nothing more than a Mockingbird when i was 16 once i saw Geezer Butler play an Eagle and Mockingbird live. Of course at 16 there was no way i could afford one. I joined the Army for 9 years and it went by the way sided. When I got out all that was available were the cheap Warlocks and some other model. Then just a few years I heard about the relaunch. I did my research and purchased a new Mockingbird. I couldn't be happier since i found a lefty. The build was excellent along with my Schecter's. I sold all of my gibsons and didn't look back. These are some of the best built and sounding guitars.
The Mockingbird is my favorite BC Rich shape. I'm much more of a Strat shape guy when it comes to the 80s stuff but the Mockingbird is still really nice. I definitely wouldn't say no to one! :) The TTK1 is awesome dude!! Thanks for sharing TK!! \m/
Thanks for sharing your collection of mockingbirds! I never knew that brand put out higher cost guitars. Sounds like good quality. Those guitars are great guitars. That Pro X is awesome!
Who here bought a TTK Killer Deal of the month Mockingbird November 2013 ?? I did and still play it to this day love that guitar !! A 24 3/4 scale length with a Floyd feels so good at times !! Very nice top play !!
I have the exact same ST (color and all) with rockfields. I thought mine was a 2005. I picked it up in 2017 for $260. Absolutely fantastic player! The fretboard is nice and wide and just smooth. Incredibly stable guitar, and I love the Rockfields.
I have one bought online around 2010. Trans-red just like the one in the vid, but with a nicer top. It's an amazing guitar. Plays like a dream, never goes out of tune, sounds amazing and really versatile. I'll never sell it, but I may spring for a new STQ without the Floyd for gigging. I wish I could get the hardtail version with the rockfield pickups and the extra switches, but without that pesky varitone knob and with the bridge vol moved to to the varitone's space to make more strumming room. The guitar is hefty and has some strong neck dive due to the strap button placement, but I've heard you can move the buttons to get a better balance. Pro quality guitar.
TTK your red STQ MockingBird is based off of the one Slash played back in the late 80’s and early 90’s , you can see him use it in the original video for the song You Could be Mine . The Smaller diamond inlays are the original BCR inlay , the dot on the Standard , diamond on the Deluxe and clouds on the Supremes .
Hmmm, looks like you are right. Thank you for pointing this out. I appreciate it. As I always say, I learn something new every day. Thank you for sharing!
I am gold leafing one of these guitars as we speak .im not sure of model but it has cloud inlays bolt neckhad 2 humbuckes 1 volume knob only. It was rotting in a neighbours garden
The first Time I was introduced to BC Rich was back in the 80s when I was 14ish and it was an early 80s? pearl white warlock with active pickups, Floyd Rose and gold plated hardware... It was THE hair metal guitar...n I fell in love with it... The looks and the heavy fuzzy sound left such an impression on me to this day as u can see. It's the reason I bought the one I have
I have been trying to find ANYONE who had an opinion on this specific model. I was gifted one and it honestly is beautiful through and through. Do you remember what you paid for yours at the time? I can’t find an accurate bit of info on this specific year and model.
I was able to get Jackson to build 24 white Dinky Soloist guitars in white with one EMG 81, one volume and the Jackson JT580 double locking trem. It has a 24 fret maple board. Under $500. It felt cool to get it done.
I have a 1983 Nagoya Japan neck through body Mockingbird the first year of the NJ also the first year of the foil serial numbers the Nagoya Legends was as good as the us or better I recently purchased a Legacy B neck through absolutely amazing guitar absolutely flawless build quality was as good as any I've seen
The Mockingbird Is my favorite shape! Slash in the You could be mine video made me obsessed with getting one. I've owned 3 Mockingbirds in my life. But the #26 TTK-1 is the only one I still own. It has the most awesome playing neck on it!
Slash had a green custom shop model more recently built by Ron Estrada I believe!? I remember seeing it in process of being built and later seen it for sale for $50k or so!?
BC rich used to have a page on their website years ago explaining how to date neck through and bolt on USA guitars, I don't know why they removed it when they redid the website.
Cool video as always Louis! Love those classic 80's metal guitars! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and showing us some more of your collection! Just awesome! 😎🎸
The Bich and the Mockingbird are my two favorite BC Rich shapes I never really cared for any of their other body styles. I had a USA Bich that I bought in 87 and I kept it till 2001 and I ended up having to sell it (still kicking myself) but what can you do. I recently bought a black Legacy Bich and I really love it! I’ve always wanted a Mockingbird too but I wish they made em in black. The transparent red and the black ones you have are really cool. You have a beautiful collection there sir!
Man I love that red ST. The purple version is really nice too. I actually prefer the solid Ferrari red finished original that Slash played in the early 90s, was never a fan of quilted or tiger tops, but oh well. An ash top might be nice though, with an open pore finish. Good luck finding one of those. Super cool video, Mockingbirds are one of my fave guitars ever, hopefully I'll have one some day. And you're definitely right about the diamonds.
Ñisssssssssce 🎸 Had an 80s mockingbird black with hot pink DiMarzios! Basement flooded in the 90s while I was away on vacation & it warped & killed it! I loved that guitar... Rip
Love Mockingbirds. The R logo is the cool one. A flame or quilt on a lighter color. No Kahler. I love Floyds, but a Gibson stop bar bridge looks so good on them. Cloud inlays req'd.
First time I saw Slash play that particular Mockingbird was in the You Could Be Mine vid off Use Your Illusion II for the Terminator 2 vid back in ‘91. But he probably played it live long before that 🤘
i feel like the upper horn needs to be longer, and hover over the 13th fret to prevent neck dive and the Cut away should be more cut away for the 24 fret Access.
This is my favorite BC Rich body style, I just want a more basic model. I don't need or even use all the gadgets on the decked out model. I do like the thru neck ones and I'd want a fixed bridge. In the mid 80's I had a Warlock NJ series with a Kahler flyer bridge that was a beautiful pearl white.
I love the red Mockingbird Bc rich. I played one live at gig to 5000 people. I was really impressed with the guitar. Nice collection dude great video. Keep rocking brother 😀🤘
I loved the Mockingbird when I first saw Joe Perry play one, but in their heyday, they were too expensive. Of course in the 80s they watered down the brand by making some of them overseas and eventually I got one. It's also rumored that the Mockingbird may be the guitar Slash used on the first album, just for "NightTrain", seeing as he needed that tremolo (which his LP's didn't have, of course) for the dive-bomb leading-into that 2nd verse....
Hey Tone King! Did you know there is a store on Reverb.com called Red Blanket Guitars selling around a dozen different new 2019 BC Rich guitars?! They range in price from about $1100 to $1800. All are neck thru with American made electronics/pickups. I believe the guitars are imports. Just a heads up to a sign of something you and I and others may be waiting for.
Great video as always. Just a correction - Slash had been using his red Mockingbird since at least 1992. If you find the Tokyo show from that year (this was available on VHS in two parts back then) you'll see it being used for You Could Be Mine.
It wasn't Slash that started the B.C Rich trend , it goes back to Joe Perry on bootleg live , ect. Almost 20 yrs before Slash got into the mainstream. Let's don't forget the Bich , best guitar design ever.. !
I got a 1984 NJ Mockingbird with a bolt on neck in player grade condition. It is just an Awesome guitar! I’ve looked at some modern set neck versions over last few years, but wider thin necks aren’t my thing. A lot seem to have overtop super thick poly finishes i can’t stand as well. Anyone suggest which era of BC Rich is the best to zero in on for $700 or less in the used market?
The mockingbirds are underrated. I own a 2008 korean made classic exotic koa with rockfield mafia pups. Love it!!! Great for all genres. Its like this: for blueser and jazzer the body is too pointy, for metaler and rocker the wood is too granny's coffeetable looking, for countryplayer all is "wrong": pups are doublecoils and too hot, not twangy enough and body waaay too excentric... LOL THAT'S why I got it sooo cheap! Haha
Fun video! I have a "sunburst" Mockingbird with white binding. It has chrome-covered humbuckers and chrome hardware all around. The inlays look like bumpy hills.😃 I bought it for $100 in 2011. I didn't know much about guitars then and I really don't know much more now. I just loved the look of it. Now I like how it feels too. It has the R logo on the back of the headstock and it says "Crafted in China." The serial number is M01102313. After listening to you in this video, I'm wondering if this was made in 2010, but really I have no idea. If anyone knows what this serial number means, I'd love to know. Thanks!
I have a Pro X withe a serial that starts with E. I'm thinking Echovember. I have two of them in different color. One of them has a vastly different neck feel- and the one starting with E has more of a radius, and for the life of me I can't get it to flutter.
I know a 12 year old who wants to sell his bc rich mockingbird pro X shadow. Its a Korean 2011, neck thru, has floyd rose, emg 81/60 pickups and ebony fretboard. I'm thinking $600 is a fantastic price for it. Any thoughts?
I did not read all the comments, so I don't know what everyone said. But what I think is that the Silver Metallic with the black binding is a 2012 Pro X with EMGs. One of the last of the BC Rich Korean masterpiece guitars. A very high-quality instrument built to exacting specs. Korea is no longer building these guitars.
I work for a Japanese company their quality is insane! NJ = Nagoya Japan they are Legend the early NJ's neck through Mockingbirds were as good or better then my American version in fact I played my early 83 NJ more than my American one ended up selling it absolutely funny they have a bunch of NJ Reissues but they're not even from Nagoya you've got Americans, Korea & China trying to imitate the original Nagoya Japan guitars
The slash mockingbird had a different name before. I had one wich was labeled as the "mockingbird st slash". They removed the slash from the model name later. This was one of the first ~600€ guitars you could get a real floyd rose on (a 1000 model). The guitar was pretty "okay". Just felt like a epiphone les paul from that time what I wasnt a friend of.
I never ever understood why the hell mockingbirds are so under utilized in the rock industry. This is the coolest most proportionally stylish guitar ever. I am now at me 30s and since I was a kid I absolutely adore this guitar from the moment I first saw it at the hands of Slash from the Illusion albums.

So my mockingbird is 81 I always called it a 79 but could be earlier is that right??
I have a Pro X withe a serial that starts with E. I'm thinking Echovember. I have two of them in different color. One of them has a vastly different neck feel- and the one starting with E has more of a radius, and for the life of me I can't get it to flutter.
should of played them?
These are the most comfortable guitars to play, standing or sitting.
i really want one of these
I have 21 of 40. TTK1, great guitar!
AWESOME! \m/
Man that TTK-1
I own 2 B.C. Rich's one Guitar a Warlock NJ bolt on neck and one B.C. Rich Beast NJ Bass bolt on neck
There's photos of slash pre guns n roses playing a mockingbird and a bich. He played them long before gibson
Can you compare the size of the eighties white one to the newer ones, they have shrunk the guitars and have taken away some points.
Slash played a Mockingbird way back in the 90's - Check out the You could be Mine video that came out in 91 !!
Dammit TTK! I've been gassing for a Mockingbird and now I want one even more! How big are the necks on those?
Just felt like a epiphone les paul from that time what I wasnt a friend of.
first is red and the other '' first'' is white cs mock with Kahler...
Problem is, slash played BC rich mokingbirds in the early 90s. You could be mine live on the use your illusion tour.
I LOVE MOCKINGBIRDS! I have never owned one though... If you would like to change that for me, I would be glad to take that white one off your hands 😉
