    I could listen to Dr Hieser all day long. He is soft, funny, straight to the point. Looks at all sides of an issue etc.
    He definatly brings the Bible to life!

    about 17:45 or so , Mike says I never heard this in Church.
    I have learned much more outside of Church than I ever did in Church.
    In the beginning it was all from reading the Bible - because there was no internet.
    I was given a complete set of Matthew Henry's commentary. I read every word of it.
    When the internet came along, I was able to confirm much of what I had discovered but had no one to talk with back then.
    I still have some things I believe I discovered back in those pre-internet days that I don't find discussed on the internet - not even by Michael Heiser, Ken Johnson, Chuck Missler etc.
    If there is one person who might understand it might be Mike Heiser. I would love to correspond with him.

      Yeah, Mike is great. I also recommend listening to a guy named Timothy Alberino. When you get into the Nephilim stuff, some of these guys seem pretty "iffy", but I've listened to him enough to feel confident he is a genuine man of God and his insight into some things blows my mind. I'll shoot you a couple links you may enjoy. :)

    Dr. Mike has really challenged and encouraged me to drink more deeply. He does such a great job for the interested amateur. Plus his humor and humility are so engaging.
    Everything about my Bible study feels fresh and exciting again. And that's after 20 plus years.
    I loved hearing about how he came to Christ. His parents sounded like mine. ☺

    Love to listen to Dr Michael Heiser he brings out what is really in the Bible, but you never learn it all in five years, my dad died at the age of 97 he was saved when he was 17 and started studying the Bible and stayed with it until he passed and he always said he still had things he learned and would never know all, you think you know then you see a verse you have read for years than one time you see it in what it Really is saying.

    I like Mike and I'm learning some things from his videos. I don't agree with his comment
    (about 2:45- 3:00) that the average person in the pew wants to be taught. Surveys show that most people who say they are Christians don't read their Bibles much at all.
    After 40 years of teaching I can say I agree with the surveys more than Mike on this point.
    Most people who attend Church do not stay and attend a Bible study class. And my experience is that most people who attend a Bible study class are not that interested in growing in the knowledge of the scriptures. Most churches don't even bother to call it a Bible study class anymore - its Sunday School, or small group study, or any other creative name to avoid offending people who might think Bible is old fashioned.
    I have found that most people don't understand the basic teachings of the Bible even if they have been in church all their lives - 20 years or more. They don't read their Bibles on a daily basis, don't memorize scripture, don't study doctrines.
    I have found they don't know what the Old Covenant is or the New Covenant. Don't know the purpose of the Old Covenant. And worst of all, even if they have heard that salvation is by Grace (the work Christ did at the cross) they live like and actually believe a person "gets to heaven" by being good - at least doing more good than bad.
    Ask a group of kids, "What do you have to do to get to heaven?"
    They will say, "Be good."
    When people arrive at the Church building for a service listen to what they talk about -
    weather, sports, cars etc by the men and gossip by the women.
    Yet, God has His remnant.

      I'd like to know why you feel the need to prove that Heiser is wrong in his comment. This is not a kind thing to do even if you disagree with his OPINION. What you are doing is trying to undermine something that doesn't need to be undermined. You're causing conflict and that is unproductive, unkind, and unloving. What are you getting out of pointing your finger?

    • @lw216316
      @lw216316 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If Mike (who I like and listen to a lot, and learn some stuff from)
      had said - It has been my experience from the churches I've attended etc...
      "the average person wants to be taught.....etc"
      I would say, Praise God, you are blessed to be part of such a group. I might even wish I could attend there (but that's not my assignment).
      But Mike did not say that. He said -
      " the average person in the pew wants to be taught. "
      That is not what I'm experiencing or have observed. What I'm seeing is what the Bible calls "the falling away" - a time when
      ' they will not endure sound doctrine".
      After 40 years of teaching one of the hardest things I encounter is trying to get people to read their Bibles.
      I'm speaking up because we are in the time of the falling away and there are those who teach otherwise and speak of a great revival happening.
      I don't know if Mike is of that opinion or not - I've not heard him say.
      But for a warning to others who watch this video - there are fewer and fewer churches teaching the truth and we are in a time when
      " they will not endure sound doctrine".
      My hope is people will read their Bibles and hunger for and grow in the Grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. May God bless those who do.

      @awatcher968 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I heard what you said and what Heiser said...Does that mean you need to insist that Heiser is inaccurate bc your definition is different? I don't. I think that the average person wants to learn so I believe that church goers want to learn something. We, as followers of Jesus, need not be so nit picky with other followers, especially if it serves no practical purpose. I absolutely know what your point is and I will agree that Americans seem apathetic and resemble Laodicea but to insist and post to everyone that Heiser is wrong and state, as fact, that we live in such n such time period is inappropriate and counter productive. What's more disappointing is that you would rather try and make a man look foolish than to let them have their opinion. What if, in God's eyes, you're more wrong in this behavior then Heiser could possibly be in his?

    I wish Dr. Heiser would do a study on Genesis 4:7 and offer a better understanding of what Sin really is!

    • @JoshuaEstateRanch
      @JoshuaEstateRanch 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      As I understand it, sin is a being. As Romans 5 says, "... sin cam into the world...". Implies that sin as a being came into the world. There are other references that imply a being. From that time forward Satan had authority in the world. "By one man sin came into the world".

      Dennis Nelson
      1 John 3:4 (KJV)
      “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.”

      "committeth sin"...what is sin is the point of the discussion! Read Gen 4:7 and you'll see it is described as having attributes...crouching, desire, it must be ruled over...

    oh yes, the "aha" moments - when I found things in the Bible that contradicted tradition
    - the wise men did not come to the manger to see the baby
    they came to the house where the young child was (probably about 1 year old)
    that's why Herod killed the 2 and under.
    - the Bible does not say there were 3 wise men
    the number was not mentioned
    - most preachers will quote the Bible as saying
    the lion will lie down with the lamb
    that is not in the Bible
    -most preachers will say that Paul fell off his horse at his conversion
    that is not in the Bible, no mention of a horse at all
    he may have been walking, riding a camel, in a cart...who knows, but no mention of a horse
    Those were just a few of the 1st aha moments for me.

      lw216316 don’t forget the text never actually says Thomas put his fingers in the side of The Messiah. He was asked to do it and then recognized who said to do it, but it never says he actually did it!!!!
      Notice vs 29 says because he “seen” not because he “touched”!!!!
      John 20:26-29 (KJV)
      “And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: [then] came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace [be] unto you. 27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust [it] into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. 28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. 29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed [are] they that have not seen, and [yet] have believed.”

    about 14:00 - 15:00
    I don't find it surprising that God refers to His angels as gods. (lower case g)
    He refers to human believers as gods. (lower case g)
    He refers to the angels as the sons of God (not THE Son of God, the only begotten)
    As true Christians, born of His Spirit, we are His children. He is the Great King - so we are a prince or a princess. Do we deserve it? Do we always live like it? No. We are in training.
    Look up the references where the Lord Jesus spoke of these things.
    I see it as God (the one and only, the eternal, the creator of all things, angels, people etc)
    first creating angels and setting up a Board where He is the chairman and He appointed certain angels to be on His board, council. He is God (capital G). The angels are gods (lower case g) because they are His sons, part of His family.
    As chairman of the board, God has the final say among the gods.
    Of course people come along, folks like the ancient Greeks and misinterpret and begin to leave out God and treat the gods like Gods.
    So a lot of the so called myths are based on true things like the angels on God's board.
    I came from dirt. Who am I to be a king, a priest, a god, in training?

    Deuteronomy 32:8 doesn’t sat that God divided the nations according to the sons of God; it says:
    When the most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when He separated the sons of Adam, He set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel.

    • @jaygee2187
      @jaygee2187 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Devon I simply read it in the KJV and double-checked it against the blue letter bible. I’m not pretending to understand the division of nations, nor am I suggesting that MH is incorrect in his assessment, only that the KJV says what it says and the blue letter bible confirms it.
      I appreciate MH, but my authority is always the bible, not man. I don’t know ancient Hebrew or Greek, but trust that God ensures His Word is accurate and accessible in language I do understand.
      It would be inconsistent of God to on one hand set apart disciples/apostles to ensure that His gospel is preached accurately throughout the world, but then give us in this day and age a hidden gospel that only a few with extensive training could understand.

    • @jaygee2187
      @jaygee2187 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Devon I think MH does an excellent job of revealing some of the mysteries regarding so many texts that people have historically just glossed over. I really do appreciate his teachings, and yes, I do believe he reads from the word of God. But we all have biases, or we all track one way or another when reading the bible, and we can all fall into seeing a passage as saying one thing when it doesn’t. It doesn’t mean that we are on the wrong track, just that we’ve misread something in our excitement of having certain revelation.
      About translations; although we do have a wider base of manuscripts from which to translate, that doesn’t necessarily produce more accurate translation. I often stand in amazement of the diligence and breadth and depth of knowledge employed by the KJV translators.
      That having been said, even they were not without constraints on what they could and could not codify. For instance, we use the Greek transliteration of the word baptismo to form the word baptism, because the Calvinist pedobaptism climate at the time restricted the translators from using the more accurate and English word of immersion.
      There are other considerations as well; words having certain meaning at the time of the KJV translation have changed in meaning since then. Evil, as we know it today, would have been more accurately defined as ‘bad’ in the 17th century. Our understanding of grace and mercy have been modified somewhat.
      So I’m not KJV only, but I am KJV primarily. It still is the standard by which others should be weighed against.
      Yes, we do have teachers to lead and guide us, and one of the things I really appreciate about HM is that he hasn’t let a doctrinally biased seminary dictate his understanding of scripture. In fact, one of the things I am most disheartened with in the ministry is the absence of critical thinking among pastors. Most adhere strictly to what they’ve been taught, in spite of all evidence to the contrary. They read the bible with doctrinal glasses on.
      I’ll give an example: to this day I have found very few people, only a few online, none in person, that recognize a difference between the two groups Paul is writing to in Ephesians 1. They do not distinguish between the first person plural pronouns in verses 2-12, and the second person plural pronouns in verse 13 and following.

      Jay, it sounds to me that you are not very familiar with Heiser's work and I think that you are projecting onto him. Heiser is the most non-biased theologian I've encountered and I've encountered many. If you read his book The Unseen Realm, you will realize that Heiser takes great care to not be biased in his beliefs about God or scripture. If you have read this book or know Heiser well and still think that he isn't objective, then I'd like to know why. Is Heiser a human with flaws, yes, is he biased, probably sometimes but his career is based on NOT being biased, which I believe he does an excellent job.

    • @jaygee2187
      @jaygee2187 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      A Watcher read my first post in this thread; if the KJV and blue letter bible are wrong, and MH is right then prove it. I don’t have any particular bone to pick with Heiser, only attempting to corroborate his words with scripture, and found them to be in disagreement. I follow God, I follow my Saviour, I love them because they love me, and I stand on what God says. That is all.
      If MC attributes to God the contents in a particular passage that God did not reveal, then as much as is within me to do so I must correct that. If you don’t like it, then your problem is with God, not me.

    • @awatcher968
      @awatcher968 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't see that you are trying to clear anything up. I see you attempting to cause division when it isn't necessary. You obviously don't know Heiser or his work, if you did, you wouldn't try to discredit what he said. Heiser didn't say anything to justify this attack. Do you actually think that Heiser is making sure that everyone completely understands what he means all the time in these interviews? No, heck no! Do what Heiser does, verify and validate something before you present a conflict. In this case, the only conflict is a difference in knowledge and comprehension compared to yours and Heiser's. I'm also certain that your knowledge or comprehension is not to the level of Heiser's. If it is, then prove it, give me your CV and a list of books that you've written and I will read at least one of them. Then I can decide if your knowledge and comprehension is superior to Heiser's or not.
