Seems like most pro climbers have been going to Patagonia where only real climbers can even get into the mountains. If they are pulling in 40 billion dollars just from everest climbers, there is something very wrong going on. They need to get rid of the so called "ice fall doctors" and any teams that don't affix the actual ropes to the top. Teams should also be required to clean ropes when they descend as well. If you need sherpas, you don't belong on the mountain in the first place.
What the people are doing on the normal route isn’t mountaineering anymore. Lining up in long queues at choke points like the Hilary Step is foolish. The best way to insure only qualified climbers are on the mountain is to outlaw fixed ropes. Hauling yourself up a slope on an ascender attached to a fixed rope installed by a Sherpa who actually climbed the mountain is not true mountaineering. It’s mountain tourism. Dangerous if you don’t have the necessary skills but tourism just the same.
Great video, i never knew any of that. Here's a shoutout to the heros of Everest: Sherpas and also the yaks!
