    In a pinch, this unit can also serve as a heater for your house during the winter! Seriously though, I'm glad to see a great overview on why these blue boxes are so special

    There's so much to love about these machines (besides bad caps), great job on the overview!

    These beautiful blue boxes are awesome. So neat to see your insight on the hardware that makes these run :)

    Man, you had some FANTASTIC insight on this machine. Fascinating to hear you get into the nitty gritty of each of the daughterboards. Can't wait to see it roar to life soon!

      You might not be wrong considering the release date implies it's Netburst

    This was the unit I grew up with. Brings back a lot of memories of staying at hotels where TWC was one of the few channels.

    So since this is actually P4-based, I could have likely gotten the IntelliSTAR LF running on my old @ss eMachines T2885 which has a Netburst based Celeron 2.8 GHz and Via Chrome9 HC graphics!

    We'll see how it works after the repair for the Intellistar 1.
    For me, I like the WeatherSTAR XL versions since I grew up with the looks of the icons and layouts. Even though 4000 is cool two and I just can't figure out how to add logo to the WS4000 while seeing the forecasts and radar while I'm using the emulator.

    Saw this unit on eBay a few months ago for around $500 , said it had a problem powering up and the hard drive(s) were "missing". Some peoples ebay ethics are really bizarre. Anyway, I would love to get my hands on a Intellistar 2HD or JR but rarely see them on ebay let alone ones with actual drives in them..

    I was annoyed when AGP went away and I could not transfer my nice AGP in/out card to my replacement motherboard.

    The XL with its O2 workstation was powerful enough they could had done live compositing with it if they wanted to.

    • @THEtechknight
      @THEtechknight  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was only 180Mhz so they would be pushing it. None of the animations on the XL are running real time. They are pre-rendered to reduce system overhead

    NetBurst was NetCursed.

      That PowerPC chip was probably faster than the P4 anyway...especially with AltiVec and the enhanced FPU.

    Besides the fact that it's HD only, I wonder what makes the IntelliStar 2 different than the original IntelliStar hardware-wise.

    • @THEtechknight
      @THEtechknight  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      IS2 is just a standard PC with a Broadwell series Core i7. That is literally it. They do have a custom USB device in there that acts as an LED controller called lightningbug. The Jr has a special card thats similar to the IS1s Thunderstorm board, But, the IS2 XD has nothing special. its just a PC.

    • @THEtechknight
      @THEtechknight  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@xoddf2 thats the I2HD. not the I2Jr or I2XD. the I2HD has just about been fully retired.

    I think the 9200 was actually slightly less powerful than the 8500, so they probably developed for that one first.

      Depends on the extensions. like XT vs SE, etc... I forget which ones these actually are.

      I have thought about it but I just don't do videos all that often because of time constraints as well as bandwidth constraints
