Even with the "finished garment measurements" printed on pattern pieces (Which I don't always trust) sometimes I still get out my measuring tape and take my own, less seam allowance. You did fantastic work, and thank you for a thorough review!
Love pattern reviews! Also, if you ever had the time, I would love any walk throughs on how to put in separating zipper, attach hoods, etc. You’re very easy to listen to😊
I agree with the squared off pockets. Looks really good; less casual. 👍 And the hem dresses it up too. Although you pointed out some of the unevenness, I think you did a great job. 👏 Thank you for this thorough review.
Great review. I’ve made this pattern and it was oversized! I have learned to measure the patterns and check this finished measurement s before making my garment. It also happens on the big 4 on occasion, measure ,measure, measure😊
This is the first-time watching your videos. I have this pattern and I am planning to make his and her outfit. You gave great information. Love your fabric and your cat. Lol
Great review!! My experience with New Look is they tend to have a lot of ease. That said, usually for a knit pattern, there is little ease, so I will be on the look out when sewing this pattern up. Love your fabric choice, well done!!
I like the changes you made to the pattern. I have a RTW men's coat that I love to wear with the pocket openings like that. They're kind of annoying to use and get used to. Yes, even in the women's patterns, that weirdness with over sizing is VERY common, and it's very frustrating. It's vital to go by finished garment measurements, which can often be found only on the tissue! The fabric you used looks amazing, and your sewing job looks really well done!
Great review, this is the first of your videos I’ve watch and I really enjoyed it. Always go by measurements as the small, large or numbered sizing is so different in each country it is interpreted differently by everyone. Have you tried any Indi pattern companies? There are some awesome mens/ unisex patterns out there with way better fitting and instructions. Off to check out some of your other clips now 😁
Thanks for your review! I agree about the sizing on some patterns - it is so important to read the finished garment measurements each time. In particular I was interested in the fabric used - the faux suede, that would be so nice for both my husband and myself for jackets. 😊
Great review thank you! I have this pattern and fabrics for the hoodie. I sew a lot of out of print patterns and agree with you on sizing. Older patterns size is much truer. The new menswear patterns I just decided on size by finished garment measurements. Behind you if I’m right is a Kenmore 158.500 series machine from the early-mid sixties. I also am a collector of vintage Barbie.
Sizing is all over the place. You can't trust them. I just had to make my husband a 3x shirt. He usually wears a 1x. For women they will call it a size 28 but the measurements are really for a size 22. I think it is because they are trying to be size inclusive. even though the pattern only fits a smaller size. I really enjoyed your pattern review. It is tough to find good patterns for men.
New Look patterns have been a bit wonky for me. i've made up three and all of them were way too large. i wasn't going by the small/med/large but by the numbers and they were still large. i do a lot of vintage and indy patterns so i have cut baseline patterns i've made from clothes that fit me well. i use that to compare before i begin. it isn't always perfect, but it has saved me from much frustration and fabric waste.
I remember when this stuff was called "Ultra Suede"...LOL. Boy, did I just give my age away there! Anyhoo. A lot of modern patterns, especially since Simplicity bought up all of the big 4 companies (at least the stuff they sell here in Canada) are so generic in size now that they're really hard to fit. I buy my patterns from independent sources these days. I have a hoodie I want to replicate, and your video just gave me some very good ideas as to how I'm going to do that. OK, so my question to you is: does this fabric you are using breathe well, or is is more of an "insulating" fabric (read; microfiber)? Does the fabric have any stretch/give to it? Lastly, would it lend itself to making a stretch cuff/hoodie bottom? Reason I'm asking is that I want to make something similar for myself, but instead of a pattern, I plan to reverse engineer a pre-existing hoodie that I'm about to throw to the curb (it gave me ten good years, time to retire it). The hoodie is fleece with some give, and I want to be sure if I find something similar to what you've done up yours with that it'll be OK to work with the dimensions of the existing hoodie (don't want it to look like it is not sitting right due to the differences in fabric, or to pull if, for example, I raise my arm or something. Thanks for this video, and you did a kick @$$ job on your hoodie!
The reason why the sizing is different is because it's a woman's pattern that they want to adapt to men's patterns. And we all know who's Ssw that women sizes are vanity sizes. So you have to measure yourself. look at the chart and take whichever measurement is closest to your actual measurements. Also, it will never fit. You right cause it's made for a woman and not a man. Even the stalling on the front suggested it's a woman's outfit.
I appreciate this review. There are not a lot of reviews of men's garments. I like the way you do these also.

What a nice make!! Beautiful sewing as well. Happy I found your channel!🎉🎉
I find all pattern measurements wrong. It is a major hurdle to my sewing. Loved your vlog. You have a new subsciber!
Nice review. With you on wanting a side-pocket option. A Teflon foot is useful when sewing napped fabrics.
Excellent! Thanks for the detailed, thorough review!
I love the fabric you chose
Great review. In store-bought I wear a medium, but with pattern sizes, I wear anyway from small to large.
Great review. ❤️❤️❤️ You're not the only one with sizing issues with pattern companies, this happens to women all the time!!!
Frustrating I know!!! 😩
Nice I like your material

It looked great on you .I think you did a awesome job.
Super helpful review. Thank you!
Looks fabulous on you - fit & color!! And, you'll be svelte a little lighter!!

Great review, great video. I'm glad I stayed to the very end. You saved the best for last! LOL You must introduce your helper in future videos.

@@DetailDisoriented Pearl is adorable! She needs to show up in all of your videos!

I've made a few things from a designer on Etsy that I've liked and I'm going to try a pattern from Thread Theory
Wow! I never knew of your channel. Your review what great! I love the pocket on this hoodie and may try the patter

There's a link to it in the description of the video. I saw a similar fabric at Joann as well, but it was a bit more expensive.

It's a 158.16 Kenmore behind me. I do most of my sewing on 158.1914 or a 158.33. Those Japanese Kenmores are so nice when they're well maintained.

This pattern is a rebadged I think Simplicity? Not in front of me, great pattern, I've used it a lot. Released at least 10 years ago.

That's actually a great idea, thanks.

After sewing garments for over 50 years, I find most if not all patterns are far larger than a normal size
It looks like a stretchy ultrasuede.
Could I use this pattern if my son chestnut is 50
Sorry chest is what I meant.
The largest size has a finished chest measurement of 56", so yes it would fit.
