  • Sometimes we get what we pay for, sometimes NOT..
    While the cables are the weak point on most of these bicycle locks, this one also sports a very weak lock. I would be hard pressed to recommend this one for use on anything.
    TIP- Always use more than one lock on a bicycle and NEVER leave it unattended for long periods of time.

    I was using a cable lock as a kid. My bike was a cheap bike so it was good enough. I remember at the time the I locks being used and how they typically had the tubular cores when I saw them in use. I always thought they looked strong. I also noticed at the time that a certain U lock was showing up on it's own quite regularly abandoned at bike racks. I now know as a educated adult on locks that what I noticed as a kid were cheap Chinese U locks still made today that were being opened with BIC pens. All I knew was that these locks always seem to be left at the bike racks by there owners and maybe something was wrong with the lock.

      Ya I have seen a few left on bike racks and never thought much about them. But until recently I never gave ANY lock a second thought. I simply thought ALL locks were ok. Yes, some bigger and some small but that was it. Now I cant help but judge every lock I see. Also, as a kid I would use a cheap combination lock and I felt my bike was very secure. But it's also fair to say there was not as much thievery back then.

    Nicely done Big Al! You are right on with this one, weak core, but with a cable like that, does it matter? I guess it will keep the wind from blowing the bike off the rack 🤷🏻‍♂️ Thanks as always, take care buddy 👍 👍

      To be honest I expected more from the lock itself. Lets hope they still work as a visual deterrent

    Well picked, so it seems the cable is not the weakest spot of this gift wrapping cord/bike lock 😁

      Ha !, gift wrapping cord, well put. Ya I had higher hopes for the lock. And of the available ones on the rack, this one had the best bitting

    I have a Kryptonite lock , it worked great until some idiot lost my keys and now I can’t use it anymore. I should have know I was …I mean that idiot was going to lose my keys and got a combo lock.

  • @daniellarson3068
    @daniellarson3068 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    That was great. The first thing that would happen to me is that I would lose the oddball key. Then my bike would be locked and I would need to walk home. So - with just a few tools, I can open the lock without the key and ride the bike home. Would a padlock work better?

    • @AlbertLebel
      @AlbertLebel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. Yes, usually padlock and thick chains are better but their harder to carry. Check out some of the Abus Granit locks and chain on a website called LOCKITT. They have some beasts of locks. I have featured several on my channel. Here's my playlist for the Abus if interested. th-cam.com/video/dsd38adK42Y/w-d-xo.html

      I think a cable can be a useful addition to a stronger chain or u-lock. Sometimes those other security accessories aren't long enough to secure both the bike frame and the tires to something solid -- but with a cable on hand you can use your strong device to secure the frame to something solid, and your cable to protect the tires & seat. Also, in some cases, a chain or u-lock will be too short to lock around anything nearby, but the cable will often be able to go around even a good-sized tree. In such a case, if you reverse the usual procedure and use your good lock to secure a tire to the frame and your cable to secure the bike to something solid, you'll be safer than you would be without the cable.
      I think once you get used to carrying two security devices, each useful in their own way, you'll never go back to carrying just one.
