- I'm pruning my Norfolk Island Pine (Araucaria heterophylla) on the shortest day of the year!
I'm also giving my Grey Bark Elm (Zelkova) a winter prune before the growing season comes.

@@TheBonsaiZone Actually you should name one cat Big Cut. When a stranger would ask what's the name of your cat, you would say Big Cut. The other person would go: "Big Cat?" You: "No, Big Cut. Big cuts are a family thing here."

I keep eyeing my Norfolk pine forest up also knowing it needs work - but unsure of what to do with it. I have not found they back bud. And similar to yours mine have thick over grown tops and drop lower branches. I think I’m just going to have to make some big chops and see what it does!

I'm always watching for your Norfolk forest! I did hard prune, topping my huge trees, I'll have an update on those later. I'm hoping for success as you seem to have. Those kitties are very well adjusted and trust you. Well done with that rescue! Merry Christmas Nigel!

The norfolk island pine forest is looking good, even when it is more full! Only if it wasn't a tropical I would consider getting them lol

Hi Nigel, I'm trying to root some Norfolk Island Pine Cuttings, if it is successful I will also try to make an forest.
I’ve tried these the last two Christmas’ when they’re available at Home Depot. Results- NIP 2 Matt 0. ☹️ Yours always looks amazing. It will be interesting to see if you can stimulate lower back budding with that heavy pruning. Thanks, keep growing

Wow, I thought we'd be at about the same latitude, but considering your day was 9 hours long and hours about 7 hours and 40 minutes you must be a good bit further south! Great video again and beautiful forest :)

Norfolks and Palm trees are like growing onions ... they don’t back bud. They often die from leader pruning, too. ( ask me how I know )... good luck, sir.

Hi I live in Phoenix Arizona and want to learn how to make a Norfolk forest for beginners I have 2 Norfolk islands trees in my house I just bought one is quite full with foliage and the second one is small I am scared to cut them can you help me please they are in my apartment

ive tried norfolk island pines as bonsai a few years in a row now and they never seem to make it a full year... just not sure what to do, bought another one this crhistmas season but afraid to replant it or prune it
